Plus: Ukrainian hackers locate Russian bases by posing as attractive women Sep 08, 2022 [Blueprint]( Hell hath no fury like a sunspot scorned. ...is not what Shakespeare said, not even close actually. But the point here is, the sunspot that [we reported as having turned away]( from Earth, is [now coming back, bigger and angrier](. In fact, it’s changing how the Sun vibrates. Normally, the poles of a sunspot are aligned +/-, which means that the positive pole is on the left of the sunspot, while the negative is on the right. But this one’s poles have rotated by 90 degrees, so the positive pole is on top and the negative pole is on the bottom, intriguingly. And when the sun rotated, it did the same (which isn’t normal sunspot behavior). But before you check that out, take a look at something a little lighter, literally. [This video]( shows a YouTuber completely disassembling a car to make it lighter and faster. It almost makes you want to try it yourself… almost. Good morning. I’m Alice, an Editor at IE. This is The Blueprint. Let’s get started. Last Sunday, Blueprint subscribers had an exclusive insight from Nigel Barlow, a global expert on innovative change, on why being disruptive is the key to innovation. And this week, we’ll catch up with Ryan Harne, the lead researcher on the recent development of the material that can “think and feel”. But in about a week, if it continues to behave as it is now, [it will be staring right at us](. It’s currently changing how the Sun vibrates (which is something that sunspots do – and is in fact how scientists can tell whether there are any sunspots on the side we can’t see). Sunspots are a regular phenomenon, but their numbers increase during the active phase of the Solar cycle (which is what’s happening at the moment). Some of them let out solar flares and charged particles from the Sun, whilst others, like this one, come back stronger instead. → On September 5, this sunspot gave off a solar energy particle (SEP) that was one of the biggest, if not the largest, storms on record since the European Space Agency's (ESA's) Solar Orbiter was launched in 2020.
