Plus: Asteroid 10 times faster than a bullet will pass near Earth today Sep 06, 2022 [Blueprint]( It may not be huge, but boy is it fast! According to NASA's asteroid tracker, a [68-foot-wide (20.7-meter-wide) asteroid]( will fly past the Earth today. Itâs half the width of a Boeing 767 and is traveling faster than a NATO rifle bullet. Blink and youâll miss it. In fact, donât blink and youâll probably still miss it. Catchily named QC7, the asteroid is smaller than many others weâve seen of late, but itâs the sheer speed of it that makes it remarkable â itâs traveling at around 9.10 kilometers (5.65 miles) per second. But before you try and catch a glimpse (you wonât be able to, but feel free to give it a go!) [check out this new footage]( of the Titanic, which is the highest quality ever recorded of the wreck. Spooky. Good morning. Iâm Alice, an Editor at IE. This is The Blueprint. Letâs get started. Last Sunday, Blueprint subscribers had an exclusive insight from Nigel Barlow, a global expert on innovative change, on why being disruptive is the key to innovation. And this week, weâll catch up with Ryan Harne, one of the lead researchers on the recent development of the material that can âthink and feelâ. Don't miss out â [subscribe to IE+ today]( to receive exclusive interviews, features, and much more. [Play]VIDEO OF THE DAY [Latest footage of the Titantic is its highest quality ever. It is traveling 10 times faster than a NATO rifle bullet, which is around 9.10 kilometers (5.65 miles) per second, according to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The asteroid, which they have called QC7, is as large as half of the wingspan of a Boeing 767 (so, not very big in asteroid terms). Youâre all sensible people (right?!), but just to be clear, thereâs absolutely no risk of danger here. In fact, according to NASA we don't need to worry, because the probability of the QC7 hitting us is very, very small â itâs 4.6 million kilometers (2.86 million miles) away from the Earth. â Even if QC7 hit the Earth, it would not make a big impact. If that happened, it would just cause a huge, loud explosion when it entered the atmosphere. Which would be quite cool, but a long way away.
