Plus: Old drug could be new key to treating deadliest form of lung cancer Sep 02, 2022 [Blueprint]( Indiana Jones would love this… Researchers claim to have [deciphered Linear Elamite]( a mysterious ancient writing system used between 2300 B.C. and 1800 B.C. There are only about 40 examples of the script in existence today, which makes the claim all the more impressive. Linear Elamite consists of about 300 signs, which each represent different sounds. But in a somewhat sinister twist, the text says that anyone who rebels from Puzur-Sušinak should "be destroyed." More translations of complete texts will be published in the future, according to researchers. Cheery! But before you read about our impending doom, check out something a little more modern. [This video]( shows the Ukraine Air Force retrofitting modern anti-radar missiles into analog cockpits, which is fascinating. Good morning. I’m Alice, an Editor at IE. This is The Blueprint. Let’s dive in. Last Sunday, Blueprint subscribers had an exclusive insight from Dr. Oren Etzioni, CEO of the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence on how and why he created one of the most highly respected AI research institutes in the world. This is all the more impressive because only about 40 known examples of the script remain today. Over 300 Linear Elamite signs represent different sounds, such as a crescent-shaped sign that sounds like "pa," the research team wrote in the paper. The team translated the words "Puzur-Sušinak, king of Awan, Insušinak [a deity] loves him". They have reported that the text also said that anyone who rebels from Puzur-Sušinak should "be destroyed" …somewhat ominously. Many research teams have previously decoded different Linear Elamite inscriptions. The new study allegedly builds on this previous work by comparing the writing system in the eight Linear Elamite inscriptions with cuneiform texts dating to the same period. → But the deciphered script, which may have originated in what is now southern Iran, has some experts skeptical. It is also unclear whether all of the artifacts used to interpret the writings were obtained legally.
