Plus: World's first mouse engineered with fully reprogrammed genes Aug 30, 2022 [Blueprint]( No fuel leak was stopping this show⦠Artemis I may not have taken to the sky yesterday as planned, but nature queued up its own spectacular display to keep us entertained. [Earth is on aurora alert]( after a coronal mass ejection that was let out last Friday was expected to reach us yesterday. Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) occur when the Sun releases enormous amounts of radiation and highly magnetized particulate matter from its surface. CMEs usually occur after regions of high magnetic energy on the Sun's surface temporarily block the convection process. But before you look up at that, [look down at this 1984 footage]( of a nuclear train flask collision test. It makes for a fun watch â and makes you slightly grateful that youâre nowhere in the vicinity. Good morning. Iâm Alice, an Editor at IE. This is The Blueprint. Letâs dive in. Last Sunday, Blueprint subscribers had an exclusive insight from Dr. Oren Etzioni, CEO of the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence on how and why he created one of the most highly respected AI research institutes in the world. This week, they will hear from Nigel Barlow, a global authority on disruption, innovation and transformation, on why we need to listen to and encourage young people to innovate right now â or face the potentially catastrophic consequences of not doing so. Don't miss out â [subscribe to IE+ today]( to receive exclusive interviews, features, and much more. Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) usually occur after regions of high magnetic energy on the Sun's surface temporarily block the convection process. They occur when the Sun releases enormous amounts of radiation and highly magnetized particulate matter from its surface. The region on the surface cools down and is visible from the telescopes on Earth as a dark spot due to its lowered temperature. Scientists call it a sunspot. â On Earth, we donât directly receive the energized particles or radiation from the Sun, as the atmosphere blocks most of them. But when it does that, particles in the upper layers of the atmosphere get highly energized, leading to the formation of auroras.
