Plus: Material discovered that can ‘remember’ like a human Aug 23, 2022 [Blueprint]( We’re gonna need a bigger boat… or maybe something a little more than that? Because it turns out, shark fans, that they’re [not confined to the water anymore](. A team of researchers from Florida Atlantic University and Australia’s James Cook University study a unique species of shark called epaulettes. They have reported that young members of this species have evolved to walk on land using their paddle-shaped fins. They can also live without oxygen for about two hours and search for prey in reef regions where most other sharks wouldn’t choose to go. But before you run for the hills/investigate this further (depending on your disposition), [check out this video]( which shows us exactly what sugar does to the human body. Spoiler: it’s not great. Good morning. I’m Alice, an Editor at IE. This is The Blueprint. Let’s dive in. Last Sunday, Blueprint subscribers had an exclusive insight from leading experts from around the world, who discussed whether animals go through break-ups. And this week, premium subscribers will hear from Dr. Oren Etzioni, CEO of the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence on how and why he created one of the most highly respected AI research institutes in the world. They (the sharks, not the researchers) can also live without oxygen for about two hours and search for prey in reef regions where most other sharks wouldn’t. But epaulette sharks are known to only feed on aquatic animals like small fish, and not land animals, so they mostly walk in and around the reef. → However, during the study, the researchers noticed that sometimes the sharks walked up to 30 meters on the dry land using their fins. The epaulette sharks' strange abilities are being viewed as an evolutionary step toward surviving the ongoing climate crisis.
