Plus: Super slo-mo footage of a transparent engine’s combustion process Aug 17, 2022 [Blueprint]( Ever felt old before your time? These mice have… Researchers have shown that young mice begin to display characteristics of older mice after just one [blood transfusion from an old mouse](. The mice who received blood were three months of age, while the old mouse was between 22-24 months of age. After seven days of the infusion, the mice were tested for their physical endurance on a treadmill. The idea behind the research is not to bring about premature aging in mice, but more to find something that might delay or prevent aging. (Although I think Indiana Jones already did that when he found the Holy Grail… at least he would have if he wasn't fictional). So far the work hasn't made any major breakthroughs, but when it does, I’ll be first in the queue for the secret of eternal youth. (Hopefully with no blood transfusion needed). Sign me up. But before you look up that Indiana Jones reference, [check out this pretty cool video]( of the combustion process inside a transparent engine… in super slo-mo. It’s everything you’d want it to be and more. Good morning. I’m Alice, an Editor at IE. This is The Blueprint. Let’s get started. Last Sunday, Blueprint subscribers heard an exclusive interview with one of the scientists behind MIT’s faster boiling water breakthrough. And this week, premium subscribers hear from leading experts from around the world discuss whether animals go through break-ups. [Must Read]MUST READ [Young mice show signs of old age after receiving blood from an older mouse.]( [Mice aged after transfusion.]( [Young mice were infused with blood]( from a much older mouse. After just a week, their physical endurance dropped, and fatigue increased. Mice that received old blood fatigued faster and ran shorter distances on the treadmill. To probe into the causes of the decline in their physical endurance, the researchers then tested the blood samples in the mice. They found that mice who had received old blood also had markers for kidney damage and aging of the liver. The idea behind the research, which is being carried out at the University of California, Berkley, is to find solutions that may delay or even prevent aging. But before you start planning your trip to Cali, you should know that this work hasn't made any major breakthroughs as yet. One of the reasons for this, according to the researchers, is how little we really know about our age in the first place. → The results have also been compared in human cells. Within six days of this placement, the researchers found multiple biomarkers of aging, which were found to be absent when the experiment was carried out with plasma taken from individuals aged 20-30. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
