Plus: Hellfire R9X: The missile that took down Al Qaeda's leader Aug 04, 2022 [Blueprint]( HIMARS – if you’re not aware of what that is, buckle up. The U.S. Marines recently released a video showcasing their now famous [High Mobility Artillery Rocket System](. Fired during the recent Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) in Hawaii, the video demonstrates its powerful/awesome/terrifying (delete as applicable) capabilities really quite effectively. According to the Marines, HIMARS can fire at a target 186 miles (300 kilometers) away, with one-meter accuracy. Yes, one meter. That’s insane. It’s referred to as a "strategic fires" asset for Marine artillery. I would refer to it as a let’s-not-mess-with-the-Marines asset. But that’s just me. And on a lighter (and marginally less deadly) note, if you’ve ever been irked by being asked to mow the lawn, then we have just the thing for you. [This video]( shows a robot lawnmower that can be controlled by VR – which makes the whole thing sound much more fun. Good morning. I’m Alice, an Editor at IE. This is The Blueprint. Let’s dive in. Last Sunday, Blueprint subscribers heard scientists reacting to the (ever-developing) brilliance of the James Webb Space Telescope. And in this week's premium edition we talk to the world’s leading experts about whether – and when – we will face another mass extinction. [Must Read]MUST READ [Watch the terrifying power of HIMARS with this footage from RIMPAC 2022]( [The power of HIMARS.]( [HIMARS is the talk of the town](. Why? Because it’s insane. The M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) is a combat-proven, all-weather, 24/7, lethal, and responsive wheeled precision attack system. It’s essentially a C-130 air transportable wheeled launcher fitted on a 5-ton Medium Tactical Vehicles XM1140A1 truck chassis. It also has an armored crew cab designed to support a lethal, mobile, expeditionary force. Each system launches MLRS Family of Munitions rockets and missiles, and can carry six Guided MLRS (GMLRS)/MLRS rockets or one ATACMS missile. Or as the U.S. military puts it: “HIMARS supports early and forced entry expeditionary operations with destructive, suppressive, and counter-battery fires.” → Its range is huge (over 70 kilometers) and incredibly accurate (to within a meter). So… it’s pretty amazing, all in all.
