It is, however, a lot wetter than you might expect. Exactly where this water came from remains a mystery. But a new discovery suggests an intriguing source, a violent process we know has occurred on the moon repeatedly in the past: volcanoes. Before we land on the moon and inspect its icy craters, grab a cup of your favorite beverage and watch today’s video to see what it would take to make it “unspillable.” Good morning. Then, we found out that not all of the moon's water came from its own surface; some of it was siloed from the Earth's atmosphere. Now, [a study has discovered]( a new and unexpected source for the water on the moon: ancient volcanoes. Ice ice baby. Researchers simulated the moon conditions back when water sources were thought to have developed. They found that ancient moon volcanoes spewed out huge amounts of water vapor, which then settled onto the surface in the form of ice in lunar craters. - Research speculates that sheets of ice originating from volcanic eruptions exist on the moon's poles and could even measure dozens or even hundreds of feet.
