The worldâs first WI-FI 7 demo reached speeds 2.4 times faster than WI-FI 6. A window design from the 1990s could substantially improve urban efficiency. Jan 22, 2022 [View in browser]( Good morning! Reviving an idea from the 1990s with present-day technology, a team's window design could substantially improve household energy efficiency. Oh, and, the crypto world saw another crash sending BTC's value to below $36,000 which practically erased a trillion dollars' worth of market value just like that. Elsewhere, the worldâs first WI-FI 7 demo reached speeds 2.4 times faster than WI-FI 6, but when can we expect it to roll out? This is The Blueprint. Keep reading. INNOVATION [A 1990s Window Design Could Substantially Upgrade Urban Efficiency]( [an illustration with a building in focus]( Did you know that the United States Department of Energy estimates that buildings use 75% of the country's electricity? One area that can greatly improve building efficiency is windows with models even being created that [can generate their own energy](. Using windows that can properly insulate constructions can make a significant difference in a building's overall energy efficiency. But how can you engineer these types of windows? One innovation came about in the 1990s. Researchers at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory had back then conceived a âthin triple-paneâ glass window that could [cut the annual energy used for heating]( buildings by 39%. Unfortunately, U.S. window manufacturers found the invention too expensive and the time and the Berkeley team gave up on their research. - However, in 2003, the Berkeley Lab team decided to have another go at promoting their super-insulating windows. This time, however, they had the help of companies that make cellphones and televisions. These firms had managed to significantly reduce the price of ultra-thin glass since it was such a necessity in their production methods and by 2019 the Berkeley team was ready to take their invention to U.S. window companies once more. The time was right for their invention and by the summer of 2019, the researchers received a grant from the California Energy Commission to replace all the double-pane windows in new model homes in Fresno, proving that persistence and hard work pay off. The company also stated that it expects Wi-Fi 7 products to become available next year in anticipation of the launch of the next-gen Wi-Fi sometime around 2024. The company said it showed off the "super-fast speeds and low latency transmission" of its Wi-Fi 7 Filogic technology to "key customers and industry collaborators." Wi-Fi 7, as shown in MediaTek's demo, will deliver 2.4 times more speed than Wi-Fi 6, even using the same number of antennas. This, according to the Wi-Fi Alliance, means that Wi-Fi 7 could provide speeds of more than 30 gigabits per second (Gbps) and close to 40Gbps. The still relatively new Wi-Fi 6 [reaches speeds of up to 9.6Gbps](. Though MediaTek has mentioned it will release Wi-Fi 7 products by 2023, the next-gen Wi-Fi likely won't be certified by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) until 2024. Wi-Fi 7, also known as the IEEE 802.11be standard, is still in the draft specification stage, meaning we will still have to patiently wait for those improved connections speeds. However, things are no longer looking so great for cryptocurrency. As announcements reveal that the Federal Reserve plans to withdraw stimulus from the market, riskier digital currencies around the world are facing negative consequences. Bitcoin, for instance, [dropped more than 12% on Friday]( to below $36,000, its lowest level since July. It is now estimated that the asset has lost over 45% of its value since its peak in November. - Over $1 trillion gone. In fact, it is now calculated that [over $1 trillion has been lost]( from the aggregate crypto market, according to the Bespoke Investment Group. The group notes that given how large the market caps have gotten, "the volatility is worth thinking about both in raw dollar terms as well as in percentage terms" The Biden administration has revealed that it will release a government-wide strategy for digital assets as early as next month and assign federal agencies the difficult task of evaluating the risks and opportunities that these assets carry. Will that be enough to stabilize crypto markets? At the moment, probably not, as the worry is too high.
