Thank you again for your support of people forced to flee. [UNHCR - The UN Refugee Agency]( [We welcome Rahaf Mohammed to Canada] UNHCR welcomes the arrival in Canada of Rahaf Mohammed. Dear {NAME}, As a supporter of the refugee cause I wanted to start the year by sharing with you the below message of hope from Jean-Nicolas Beuze, UNHCR representative in Canada. It talks about Rahaf Mohammed, a young Saudi woman who fled abuse and landed in Toronto last Saturday. Best wishes, Aamir Sohail "As I’m sure you have seen, the world has been captivated by the story of Rahaf Mohammed, a young Saudi woman who fled abuse and landed in Thailand last week. After her tweets captured international attention, the Royal Thai Government granted UNHCR access to her so that we could review her protection concerns. After we confirmed her status as a refugee, the Government of Canada offered emergency resettlement and Rahaf arrived in Toronto on 12 January. I have had the pleasure of meeting Rahaf yesterday and am glad to confirm that she is safe and well: she is ready to start, and excited about, her new life in Canada. The speed with which Rahaf came to Canada was an exceptional case made possible thanks to the great cooperation between Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) and the UN Refugee Agency. I am thankful for the fast work of my colleagues in Thailand and the cooperation of the Thai and Canadian governments to ensure that Rahaf reached safety in Canada. I am also thankful for the warm welcome that Canadians supporters of refugees have given to Rahaf and to all refugee newcomers to Canada who have fled violence or persecution in search of safety. Your support of refugees is more important than ever. Of the 25 million refugees worldwide, less than 0.5 percent will ever be resettled to a third country, as there are simply not enough spaces made available by governments each year for refugees. Your support to UNHCR, {NAME}, is sending a clear message to governments that you stand with refugees and support making spaces available in Canada and elsewhere for people in need to be resettled like Rahaf. The road ahead for Rahaf will be tough as she adjusts to her new life in Canada. But with the excellent support of resettlement services and the warm welcome of Canadians I am sure that he has a bright future ahead of her. Thank you again for your support of people forced to flee. With thanks, Jean-Nicolas Beuze, UNHCR Representative in Canada" [UNHCR The UN refugee Agency]( [Donate now]( Stay connected [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [YouTube]( [Instagram]( This email was sent by: UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) CH-1211 Genève 2 Dépôt Geneva, Case Postale, 2500, Switzerland [Unsubscribe]( | [Update Profile]( | [Privacy Policy]( | [View this email in your browser](
