They can grow to a foot and a half in length, devour dozens of fish in a 30-minute window and lay up to two million eggs per year. Worst yet, they’re a bear to kill. Most predators won’t touch them with a 10-foot pole because their venom is as pungent as a cobras. Previous to the cluster-fuck I’m going to tell you about here in a moment, the problem that was the Lionfish was confined to the waters that surround Indonesia. Unfortunately, when Hurricane Andrew rocked South Florida nearly three decades ago, it imploded a coastal aquarium and released several extremely invasive species of Lionfish into the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. As the Lionfish began to spread like rats after an all-night, Viagra-fueled, New York City rat-orgy, scientists scrambled to control their numbers with little to no avail. Desperate, they called in the heavies. In walks Ogilvy & Mather. Tasked with hunting Lionfish, the creative hitmen over at Ogilvy & Mather hired the top chefs in Colombia to come up with a series of mouthwatering Lionfish recipes. They then asked the Catholic Church to recommend Lionfish on Fridays for Lent (roughly 80% of Columbia is Catholic). Finally, they coupled these efforts with an advertising campaign meant to rebrand the Lionfish from something poisonous to something scrumptious. The punchline they came up with was… Terribly Delicious. Overnight, the Lionfish became something of a sensation, appearing in both the country’s finest restaurants and eventually making its way into supermarkets. With this increased demand, fishermen were enticed to pick up their spearguns to cash in on the gold rush. I call that shit creative sashimi. By [Cole Schafer](. P.S.
