The leaders of the federal courts have resisted the enactment of laws to protect federal judiciary employees. The same judges who have to enforce our national anti-discrimination laws have fought Congress’s attempts to enforce workplace protections for workers in our federal courts. They claim that there isn’t a problem with their system and that they should be able to regulate their own behavior. But there IS a problem. Last week, I presided over a hearing to address the lack of workplace protections for federal judiciary employees, and we heard from three brave whistleblowers who have spoken out about harassment they experienced while working in our courts. The testimony these witnesses gave, and the countless other stories of harassment, abuse, and discrimination that have come from the federal judiciary, make it clear that Congress has to act. I’ve introduced the Judicial Accountability Act to address this problem. The Judicial Accountability Act will prohibit discrimination of employees in the federal court system. It will prohibit retaliation against whistleblowers who speak out against misconduct. [Will you sign my petition to add your name in support of creating workplace protections against harassment, discrimination, and retaliation in the federal judiciary?](/rn_eFXr44Zj5t9ZdpCC7H7k1GY64tfbVL40Buhzrk18=) [SIGN THE PETITION](/rn_eFXr44Zj5t9ZdpCC7H7k1GY64tfbVL40Buhzrk18=) There are more than 30,000 people working for our federal courts. They are the backbone of our nation’s federal system of justice. It’s time they feel safe in their workplace and empowered in their work. – Hank Johnson (he/him) --------------------------------------------------------------- [Hank Johnson Facebook Icon](/aqfg_Z0xn77K_isxAJcQj41VLwomQtmmiLf63XPD-s8=) [Hank Johnson Twitter Icon](/VEn9EYg1uvyofuz64dZCoFYH2tandsqI2ZwEUtnYFK8=) [Hank Johnson Instagram Icon](/DUGZO3b5bAsrqF-cObzUC1OPalaq9sQ85fmbkjD2r38=) Congressman Hank Johnson is a former defense attorney, DeKalb County commissioner, small business owner, and magistrate judge who now serves in Congress as a champion for the middle class.
