A Message from Girl Scouts of the USA's CEO, Sylvia Acevedo
Hello, Girl Scouts and happy National Get Outdoors Day!
I hope this note finds you filled with excitement for the coming summer and some wonderful outdoor adventures.
June is Great Outdoors Month, so all month long we’re celebrating the [#gsoutdoors challenge]( with our new partner, The North Face. Girl Scouts offers girls awe-inspiring outdoor experiences----- from kayaking down a river to camping with their troop to stargazing and exploring the science of nature, as I did as a young Brownie. We know that getting girls outside aids in their healthy development; our [More Than S'mores research]( found that monthly outdoor exposure contributes to girls seeking out more challenges and being more active problem-solvers.
As the school year comes to an end in many areas, troop meetings pause, and Girl Scouts head off to camps and other fun summer adventures, I want to again thank you for supporting the Girl Scout mission. At Girl Scouts, we proudly use our expertise to serve girls, and we are committed to continuing to put girls at the center of all that we do. We also know from [our research]( and from [what so many of you have told us]( ----- that Girl Scouts has an amazing effect on girlsâ lives, your lives, and our communities.
So after you’re done reading this update on all the exciting things going on at Girl Scouts, I encourage you to disconnect, explore the great outdoors, and enjoy some true moments of wonder with your family and friends.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Sylvia
