This nightclub should have been a safe haven for LGBTQ+ individuals to gather during Pride Month, but instead their night turned into a scene of terror. At the time, Pulse was the deadliest mass shooting in our nation’s history. We remember the 49 lives lost with murals and memorials. And in the face of continued violence and bigotry against the LGBTQ+ community, we must call out hate when we see it and work to disarm it. As we honor Pride Month this June, I hope you will join me in standing with LGBTQ+ people across our nation. LGBTQ+ rights have remained under attack for years. Right now, extremist politicians have made the transgender community one of their top targets, stoking fear and encouraging violence. We cannot stand for this hatred. We must work towards a future where hate-filled individuals can no longer access firearms and harm our nation’s most vulnerable populations.
