Monthly product updates, pro-tips, and events from the Sentry team. Product updates for August 2017

Monthly product updates, pro-tips, and events from the Sentry team. [Sentry]( Product updates for August 2017 August is all about community at Sentry. We’d love your thoughts on how we can make Sentry 9 even more usable, and we’re looking for testers for our next Java agent, which includes stack locals. Plus, we’re deepening our commitment to security and compliance (more on that soon). Product updates Local Variables for Java Applications We released an experimental (beta) Java agent that enhances your Sentry event stack traces by adding the names and values of all local variables at each frame. We're [seeking beta testers]( to try out this new feature and provide feedback.—Brett H. Dreaming up Sentry 9 We've begun discussing our vision for Sentry 9. Our thinking is still very early, but we thought it would be a good time to loop in the community. We'd like [your feedback]( on initial proposals like a more complete sidebar and new top-level filtering, as well as your ideas on how we may be able to push things further. —Chris J. Announcing Forge Sessions and Speakers Forge tickets are now on sale, and we’re excited to [announce more speakers]( and sessions, evening events, and partners. Forge is your best chance this year to learn about observability, continuous deployment, microservices, and the other ways we ship faster and better, with talks from Stripe, Optimizely, MailChimp, Datadog, and more. Join us in Napa Valley in October! —Christina N. Source Maps Demystified Are you using source maps with Sentry? Have you ever been curious how they work under the hood? [In this talk from O'Reilly's Fluent conference]( I present a deep dive into source maps: their history, how to generate them, how they work, and helpful libraries you can use to debug them yourself. —Ben V. Why We Love Rust Rust has become a key part of our infrastructure. It underlies our CLI and parts of our event processing pipeline. We replaced our source map handling with a Rust module that we interface from Python to improve CPU efficiency processing by 90%. Check out video of [my talk from PolyConf]( on how we did it and the future of Rust at Sentry. —Armin R. Update to our Security Overview We’ve updated our [overview of our security and compliance]( practices. Sentry is 100% open source, so we put extra emphasis on security and compliance for our hosted SaaS. Protecting your application’s data, eliminating systems vulnerabilities, and ensuring continuity of access are table stakes when it comes to our investment in infrastructure, operations, policy, and process. Additionally, the good people at SourceClear wrote up how they [use Sentry to enforce content security policy (CSP)]( including helpful notes on managing false-positives from browser extensions and monitoring attacks as well as front-end bugs with our Slack integration. —James C. Pro-tips “Test Plugin” for Plugins and Webhooks For certain plugins and webhooks (e.g., Slack), you can now send a test notification to make sure you've configured things correctly. Once you've enabled the plugin, click on the “Test Plugin” button within the plugin's configuration page to send a test notification. —Kelly C. CALL TO COMMUNITY We Love Hearing from You At Sentry, we encourage users to share their insights and experience with the rest of the community. If you enjoy Sentry, we'd love your help spreading the word! Please take a few minutes to [submit a review on Capterra](. Each month, we’ll look for a different way to get the word out. —Ryan G.
