KC: Andy Reid returning [Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher]() Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed he'll return for the 2024 season. Our view: There was a thought that Reid could retire if the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. Well, less than one day after securing another ring we've got the news that Reid isn't going anywhere. In fact, the Chiefs should try to keep the band together on both sides of the ball to see if they can be the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. KC: Patrick Mahomes adds to legacy [Source: ESPN.com]() Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was named the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl LVIII, completing 34 of his 46 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and rushing nine times for 66 yards in a 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers. Our view: Mahomes is approaching GOAT status, and he's just getting started. Since becoming the starter, Mahomes has three Super Bowl championships in six seasons. He could play at a high level for the next decade plus if he can stay healthy. That's great news for the Chiefs and terrible news for the rest of the league. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. SF: Brock Purdy pressured [Source: ESPN.com]() San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy completed 23 of his 38 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown and rushed three times for 12 yards in a 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. Our view: Purdy played well but wasn't as effective as a runner as he'd been earlier in the postseason. The Chiefs were harassing Purdy all game long, and he did a good job of standing up to the pressure. He didn't make too many mistakes, and he didn't turn the ball over. Perhaps running the ball a bit more would've changed the outcome, but Purdy's game was not enough (even though he was efficient). [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. SF: Big effort from Christian McCaffrey [Source: ESPN.com]() San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey rushed 22 times for 80 yards and caught eight passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in a 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. He also lost a fumble. Our view: McCaffrey was taking a ton of punishment, but he stayed in the game and helped wear down the Chiefs. We're not sure what more he could have done, but just a bit more McCaffrey might have made a difference for a 49ers team that came up short against the Chiefs. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. SF: Deebo Samuel held in check [Source: ESPN.com]() San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel caught three of his 11 targets for 33 yards and rushed three times for eight yards in a 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. Our view: Samuel also had a hamstring problem that knocked him out of the game. The Chiefs seemed to be ready when Samuel was toting the rock as a runner. The passes to Samuel were off the mark, and that's why he couldn't do more as a receiver. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. KC: Nine grabs for Travis Kelce [Source: ESPN.com]() Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce caught nine of his 10 targets for a game-high 93 yards in a 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Our view: Kelce came up big for the Chiefs. The team was struggling at times, but Kelce proved to be the steady target and playmaker that he's always been. His chemistry with QB Patrick Mahomes is special, and Kelce's play is a big reason why the Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. SF: Rare feat for Jauan Jennings [Source: ESPN.com]() San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan Jennings caught four passes for 42 yards and a touchdown and threw a 21-yard touchdown pass in a 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, becoming the second player in Super Bowl history to have both a receiving and passing touchdown in the same game. Our view: The only other player is former Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles. Unlike Foles, Jennings did not win the game. It was a heroic effort by Jennings, and he was playing out of his mind to help the 49ers on Super Sunday. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. KC: Mecole Hardman catches winner [Source: ESPN.com]() Kansas City Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman caught three passes for 57 yards, including a three-yard, game-winning touchdown, in a 25-22 overtime win against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Our view: Hardman began 2023 with the New York Jets, but he found his way back to the Chiefs. He caught only one pass in five games with the Jets before he was traded back to the Chiefs. Hardman mostly has a small role for the Chiefs, but he came up in a big way to seal the game in overtime. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. SF: Rough night for George Kittle [Source: ESPN.com]() Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during the team's Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Feb. 11. Our view: Kittle was able to return to the game but finished with just two receptions for four yards. He was targeted three times. You have to look beyond the box score to see how Kittle impacts the game as a blocker in addition to what he does as a receiver. He was banged up going into this game, so he was going to give it his all just to be out there on Sunday. [Back to Top](#top) [] 10. SF: Three grabs for Brandon Aiyuk [Source: ESPN.com]() San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk caught three of his six targets for 49 yards in a 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. Our view: It was not a great day for the 49ers' passing attack. QB Brock Purdy had 39 passing attempts, but he should have peppered Aiyuk with more passes. It should have been a larger part of their game plan to get the ball into the hands of one of their best playmakers. Not force-feeding Aiyuk the ball was one of the things 49ers fans will look back on as a mistake in this game. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. KC: Jerick McKinnon logs two grabs [Source: ESPN.com]() Kansas City Chiefs RB Jerick McKinnon caught both of his targeted passes for 15 yards against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Our view: It was a question if McKinnon was going to be able to play. Freshly activated off IR, McKinnon was on the field sparingly but one of his plays came up big. McKinnon helped move the chains, and that's a role he could continue to play for the Chiefs if they bring him back in 2024. He's set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. [Back to Top](#top) [] 12. KC: Isiah Pacheco handles 24 touches [Source: ESPN.com]() Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco rushed 18 times for 59 yards and caught six passes for 33 yards in a 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. He also lost a fumble. Our view: Pacheco helped grind down the 49ers' defense. He's the angriest runner in the league, and Pacheco was angry with himself after an early fumble lost in the Super Bowl. He kept his confidence and kept running angrily, both as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. Pacheco is the first running back in NFL history to begin his pro career with two Super Bowl starts and two Super Bowl victories. [Back to Top](#top) [] 13. SF: Minimal role for Elijah Mitchell [Source: ESPN.com]() San Francisco 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell carried the ball twice for eight yards against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Feb. 11. Our view: We could have seen more from Mitchell. Kyle Shanahan seemed to go away from running the ball (again) in the Super Bowl. Yes, Christian McCaffrey had 22 carries but Shanahan wanted 40 carries on Sunday. The team ended up with 31 rushes as a team, falling short of that 40 mark. Giving Mitchell more work could have further worn down the Chiefs' defense. [Back to Top](#top) [] 14. KC: Rashee Rice finishes with six catches [Source: ESPN.com]() Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice caught six of his eight targets for 39 yards in a 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Our view: Rice helped move the chains, and he played with emotion in the Super Bowl. At one point, Rice was seen shouting at QB Patrick Mahomes after he was wide open for a would-be touchdown. Instead of hitting Rice for the score, Mahomes threw it up for TE Travis Kelce on a play that wound up incomplete. It's an emotional game, but we're certain everything is smoothed over with a Super Bowl win. [Back to Top](#top) [] 15. KC: Marquez Valdes-Scantling finds end zone [Source: ESPN.com]() Kansas City Chiefs WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught three passes for 20 yards and a touchdown in a 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Our view: Valdes-Scantling was not always on the same page as QB Patrick Mahomes. However, he made plays when they counted and helped spark the Chiefs' scoring in a game where points weren't as plentiful as some hoped. Valdes-Scantling has one more year left on his contract with the Chiefs. He's due $13.9 million in 2024 with $2 million in dead money. [Back to Top](#top) [] 16. DAL: Mike Zimmer agrees to deal [Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero]( Former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys to become their new defensive coordinator. Our view: With Dan Quinn moving on, the Cowboys needed to fill their defensive coordinator position. Zimmer has a ton of experience, and he's a respected name in coaching circles. He goes back to the Cowboys where he coached from 1994-2006. Zimmer takes over a defensive unit that has plenty of star power, so he should make them a top-10 defense. [Back to Top](#top) [] 17. ATL: Desmond Ridder a trade candidate? [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport]() Atlanta Falcons QB Desmond Ridder could be a trade candidate whenever the team acquires a new quarterback, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Monday, Feb. 12. 'Once they acquire a new QB, potentially trading Ridder would be an option, as well. It might be a situation where a fresh start works for all parties,' Rapoport said. Our view: We can't imagine too many teams lined up to trade for Ridder - even in this quarterback-desperate league. We could be wrong, but Ridder's play doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Perhaps someone is willing to throw a late-round pick at the Falcons with the idea that Ridder could compete for a starting job. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks.
