He hooked up with Donte Moncrief for the best passing play of the day and offers more than Tolzien can heading into a matchup with the Cardinals. [][QB Jared Goff, LAR](=) - (waiver wire: 3-5%) - Goff executed well in Sean McVay and Matt LaFleur's offense and used all three of his top receivers along with Todd Gurley to move the offense consistently. He'll be streamable in deep leagues against McVay's old Washington team next week. [][QB DeShone Kizer, CLE](=) - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Kizer took seven sacks against the blitz happy Steelers and threw a bad pick in their side of the field, but he also kept the Browns competitive and used a wide range of targets. He'll be tested against the Baltimore defense that shut out the Bengals in Week 1. [][QB Alex Smith, KC](=) - (waiver wire: 15-30%) - Smith was magnificent on Thursday night after a slow start, hitting downfield receivers with more boldness than we've seen in the past and taking advantage of blown coverages and mismatches. He has a tough matchup against Philadelphia next week, but if he produces, he might a legit QB1 this year. [][QB Matthew Stafford, DET](=) - Stafford was on fire against Arizona, especially in the no huddle offense. He hooked up with rookie Kenny Golladay for two scores, including a deep ball, and kept the chains moving with Golden Tate and Theo Riddick. He faces a stiff Giants defense in Week 2, but could still be a low QB1 coming off his command performance. [][QB Tyrod Taylor, BUF](=) - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - It was just the Jets, but Taylor shined with new targets, especially in the red zone. He should have had another scoring pass that bounced off of Charles Clay's hands for an interception. He'll be a good streamer this year, but not quite startable against the Panthers this week. [][QB Deshaun Watson, HOU](=) - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Watson will be installed as the starter, but only have a short week to prepare for the Burfict and Pac Man-less Bengals defense on Thursday night. His running ability will help his weekly floor and ceiling, but the Texans offense looked meek against the Jaguars. He's not startable yet, but could be good developing depth. [][QB Carson Wentz, PHI](=) - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Wentz was very mobile against the Washington pass rush and added a vertical element with his new receivers while taking advantage of old connections like Zach Ertz and Darren Sproles. He'll have a tough matchup at Kansas City on the road, but if he can make good on it, he might a QB1 this year. --------------------------------------------------------------- QUARTERBACK DOWNGRADE [][QB Blake Bortles, JAX](=) - Everything went the Jaguars way on Sunday, which means that Bortles was barely used to move the offense. Add in the loss of Allen Robinson for the season and Bortles becomes a bottom 8 fantasy quarterback. [][QB Kirk Cousins, WAS](=) - Cousins looked skittish against the Eagles pass rush in Week 1, although he was also let down by Terrelle Pryor's drops. He'll face the Rams with Aaron Donald back in the lineup in Week 1, and Cousins is no longer a QB1 while this offense continues to gel. [][QB Andy Dalton, CIN](=) - Maybe the Ravens defense is just that good. In the best case scenario, that means Dalton is an avoid against good defenses, maybe even against the Texans on Thursday this week. Maybe the offensive line for the Bengals is that bad. In the worst case scenario, this is going to be a long season for all the Bengals offensive players, and Dalton could be replaced by AJ McCarron. [][QB Joe Flacco, BAL](=) - The Ravens have morphed back into a running game and defense driven team. Flacco's attempts were very low coming off of a lost preseason due to a back injury, and they should remain low all season despite coming off of a year when he led the league in attempts. [][QB Brian Hoyer, SF](=) - Hoyer got no favors from the Panthers pass rush, but he also didn't click in Kyle Shanahan's offense the way he did at times in the preseason. Week 2 at Seattle promises to be even worse. It could be time for the CJ Beatherd watch soon. [][QB Eli Manning, NYG](=) - Some of it was the absence of Odell Beckham, but there's no denying that Manning looked like a quarterback in the early-mid decline phase of his career against the very solvable Cowboys defense. The Lions defense picked on the aging Carson Palmer in Week 1 and we can't trust Manning against them, even if Beckham returns. [][QB Carson Palmer, ARI](=) - Palmer was spotted a lead by defense and special teams and still fizzled against the Lions defense that is lacking pass rush punch. He is lucky to draw the Colts porous defense next week, but Palmer is looking old and tough to trust except in deep leagues. [][QB Tom Savage, HOU](=) - If the Texans are sane, Savage will ride the bench in Week 2 against the Bengals. Even if he does start, Savage is a bottom of the barrel option - even in 2QB and superflex leagues. [][QB Scott Tolzien, IND](=) - Even if Tolzien starts, we want him nowhere near our lineups in Week 2 against the Cardinals. Hopefully for the Colts skill players sake, he's benched for Jacoby Brissett. [][QB Russell Wilson, SEA](=) - The play design, offensive line, and execution all hurt Russell Wilson at the site of one of his worst games of 2016. He'll return home against the 49ers this week and should bounce back, but the line and coaching is looking like a limiting factor for Wilson's value this year. --------------------------------------------------------------- QUARTERBACK HOLDING STEADY [][QB Tom Brady, NE](=) - Even without Julian Edelman, Brady got a lot of mismatches and time to throw against the Chiefs, but couldn't click with his myriad of weapons. Some credit goes to the Chiefs defense, but also know that if Mike Gillislee hadn't scored all three touchdowns on the ground, some set up by pass interference penalties, and missed on two fourth down runs in Chiefs territory, a bigger opening night was there for Brady. He'll be fine. [][QB Cam Newton, CAR](=) - Newton didn't do much as a runner and was off as a passer, but he is still shaking off rust from offseason shoulder surgery, He should look better this week against former Carolina defensive coordinator Sean McDermott's Bills. --------------------------------------------------------------- RUNNING BACK UPGRADE [][RB Javorius Allen, BAL](=) - (waiver wire: 20-40%) - Danny Woodhead is out for a significant amount of time with his hamstring injury, so expect Allen to get about half of the carries and most of the catches out of the backfield while Woodhead is out. Against the Browns this week, Allen could be considered a PPR RB2. [][RB Chris Carson, SEA](=) - (waiver wire: 15-30%) - Carson got the most snaps of any Seahawks back and he should be the healthiest back on the team this year. While he will still have to share and run behind a poor offensive line, touchdown opportunities should be there in better matchups like the one against the 49ers this week. [][RB Tarik Cohen, CHI](=) - (waiver wire: 50+%) - Cohen is worth breaking the bank in PPR leagues as he could lead the wide receiver poor Bears in targets this year. He looked every bit of the Darren Sproles comparison that he earned in college and should be getting a ton of snaps and looks in the Bears offense this year. [][RB Andre Ellington, ARI](=) - (waiver wire: 7-15%) - Ellington will split the backfield work with Kerwynn Williams for at least the next two months with David Johnson. He is an excellent receiver and was once a borderline RB1 for the Cardinals. [][RB Leonard Fournette, JAX](=) - It was only the Texans offense minus left tackle Duane Brown, but the Jaguars defense was rude and merciless against them in the opener, setting up Fournette for as much work as he could handle. He'll be the centerpiece all year and should pick up where he left off against the Titans. [][RB Mike Gillislee, NE](=) - It appears that Gillislee will have almost exactly the same role as LeGarrette Blount in the Patriots offense, down to the automatic one-yard scores. He failed on a few fourth downs and wasn't more successful than Blount on most of his other runs, but being the finisher for the Patriots is worth an everyweek RB2 role, especially against the Saints this week. [][RB Todd Gurley, LAR](=) - Gurley was sputtering as an inside runner, but he was active and productive as a receiver and got a touchdown drive to finish, which should happen more often this year. He's an RB1 against Washington this week. [][RB Kareem Hunt, KC](=) - Hunt made history with his three scores and 200+ total yards. He's a strong RB1 going forward even though he isn't being used in pass protection. He'll face a tough Eagles defense in Week 2. [][RB Chris Ivory, JAX](=) - (waiver wire: 3-5%) - Ivory ran well and is the primary backup to Leonard Fournette in an offense that is looking like that will create big opportunity for running backs because it is paired with a dominant defense in Jacksonville. He's one of the best #2 backs in the league in a good situation. [][RB Marlon Mack, IND](=) - (waiver wire: 1%) - Mack should have gotten credit for two scores in the woeful Colts offense, but Chuck Pagano didn't challenge the first one that was wrongfully marked short. Frank Gore looked good and isn't going anywhere, and this offense is terrible without Andrew Luck, but Mack is a good rookie stash in deep leagues on talent and Week 1 flash. [][RB Ty Montgomery, GB](=) - Montgomery was a true workhorse against the Seahawks and he held up well. In PPR leagues, he's an RB1 going forward and he should have a big game against the Falcons on turf this week. [][RB Jonathan Stewart, CAR](=) - Stewart caught a score and got the majority of carries in the win for the Panthers. He should have a chance to get 15+ touches again against the Bills this week. [][RB Chris Thompson, WAS](=) - (waiver wire: 7-15%) - Thompson is a good PPR firewall back, getting about half of the snaps in a Washington offense that didn't establish the run and dominating in a two-minute drill. He's excellent for bye weeks and injuries, but doesn't have a high ceiling, so he's not a pickup in short bench leagues. [][RB Mike Tolbert, BUF](=) - (waiver wire: 1-3%) - Tolbert isn't just a fullback, he's the primary backup to LeSean McCoy in a good rushing offense. He was able to vulture a score like the olden days in an offense that Mike Gillislee scored eight times in last year while backing up LeSean McCoy. [][RB Shane Vereen, NYG](=) - (waiver wire: 7-15%) - Vereen's catch and target total should go down when Odell Beckham returns, but there's no denying that his short-range targets are fitting too well with a declining Eli Manning behind a weak offensive line. He'll have PPR flex and bye/injury depth value as long as he's healthy. [][RB Terrance West, BAL](=) - We already knew West was going to have a running mate, that it will be Javorius Allen doesn't change his outlook. The Ravens potentially having a dominant defense does, as it would allow him to get larger workloads on a week-to-week basis. He's a solid RB2 against the Browns this week. [][RB Kerwynn Williams, ARI](=) - (waiver wire: 15-30%) - Williams is the primary backup to David Johnson, who is likely to miss 8-12 weeks with a dislocated wrist, although he is seeking a second opinion. He will likely share Andre Ellington and the Cardinals offense could be severely limited without Johnson. This also could be a running back by committee. --------------------------------------------------------------- RUNNING BACK DOWNGRADE [][RB Ameer Abdullah, DET](=) - The Lions running game is missing left tackle Taylor Decker and they couldn't get anything going for Abdullah, who was also eclipsed in the passing game by Theo Riddick. He should be on our benches for the matchup against the Giants. [][RB LeVeon Bell, PIT](=) - Bell should bounce back against the Vikings now that the holdout rust is shaken off, but he gave up more snaps and touches to backup James Conner than he had in the past and wasn't able to crack a Browns defense he destroyed last year. He's still a must-start RB1, but this is about the worst game you could have expected from him. [][RB Rex Burkhead, NE](=) - Burkhead got the start and a few downfield targets, but was mostly on the bench for the Patriots. There's potential for value here if an injury strikes the Pats backfield, but for now Burkhead is not an essential hold in short bench leagues. [][RB Matt Forte, NYJ](=) - Forte was only valuable last year when the Jets were competitive, which doesn't seem like it will happen often this year. He's droppable in all but long bench deep leagues. [][RB Devonta Freeman, ATL](=) - Freeman got almost an equal amount of touches to Tevin Coleman and would have been a Week 1 bust were it not for a goal-line carry. He'll have some big games this year, but his weekly floor is a little scary with Coleman not going away. [][RB Frank Gore, IND](=) - Gore actually ran well, but the Colts are mired in a rebuilding year mode without Andrew Luck and they seem to like rookie Marlon Mack. This backfield is a mess on a team that is an even bigger mess. [][RB Jeremy Hill, CIN](=) - Hill is part of a three-way committee behind one of the worst lines in football, and the least talented member of the group. He's not worth a roster spot. [][RB Jordan Howard, CHI](=) - Howard finds himself in a committee with the electric Tarik Cohen coming out of Week 1. He also dropped a potential game-winning touchdown. He's no longer a fantasy RB1 heading into a matchup with Tampa. [][RB David Johnson, ARI](=) - As of this writing, Johnson could be out anywhere from 2-4 weeks to 3-4 months, depending on whether the doctors recommend wrist surgery. He'll likely miss a cupcake matchup against the Colts and a tilt with the Cowboys at the least. [][RB Duke Johnson, CLE](=) - Johnson was a slot receiver in Week 1 and not targeted very heavily. He's not worth carrying in typical leagues. [][RB Rob Kelley, WAS](=) - Kelley was unimpressive against the tough Eagles front seven and this week he gets a Wade Phillips defense in Los Angeles that just got Aaron Donald back. The Samaje Perine watch is on. [][RB Eddie Lacy, SEA](=) - Lacy got the third-most snaps of the three active Seahawks in Week 1. He's not worthy carrying in typical leagues because of his small role and the poor offensive line. [][RB Dion Lewis, NE](=) - After being the lead back in the third preseason game, Lewis was an afterthought in the opener. His talent is proven and he should be re-added if his role appears to grow or if he gets traded to a team struck by an early running back injury. [][RB Darren McFadden, DAL](=) - McFadden was a healthy scratch after it was assumed that he was the backup to Ezekiel Elliott. There is no clear handcuff to Elliott this year. [][RB Joe Mixon, CIN](=) - Mixon was in a three-way committee behind one of the worst offensive lines in football. He might not be an essential hold in short bench leagues soon if this trend continues. [][RB DeMarco Murray, TEN](=) - Murray didn't run hot in the season opener against the Raiders and was arguably outplayed by Derrick Henry. The Titans offense will face a stiff test against the Jaguars this week. [][RB Paul Perkins, NYG](=) - Perkins was used a lot in the first half but barely used later, giving way to passing set back Shane Vereen. The offensive line was one of the four or five worst in Week 1 and the Giants appear to be a pass-happy team. Perkins is only a speculative hold heading into a matchup with the Lions. [][RB Bilal Powell, NYJ](=) - Powell has some marginal PPR value, but as long as Matt Forte is around, he'll just be a what the heck flex, fueled by garbage time, like this week against the Raiders. [][RB C.J. Prosise, SEA](=) - Prosise was just a small role player in the muddled backfield and poor blocking Seahawks offense. He's only a desperation play and end of the bench hold to wait for injuries to possibly clarify this situation. [][RB Thomas Rawls, SEA](=) - Rawls missed Week 1 as the team is waiting for his high ankle sprain to completely heal, and he'll return to a three or four way committee running behind a poor offensive line. He's droppable in typical leagues. [][RB Charcandrick West, KC](=) - There was some possibility in Week 1 that West would be in a committee with Kareem Hunt and he did get a touchdown, but he's just a handcuff right now with Hunt's dominance. [][RB Danny Woodhead, BAL](=) - Woodhead hurt the same hamstring he injured in the preseason and is out for a significant amount of time. He's not an essential hold in nonPPR or short bench leagues. --------------------------------------------------------------- RUNNING BACK HOLDING STEADY [][RB LeGarrette Blount, PHI](=) - Blount salvaged his week with a goal-line score and led the Eagles in carries, but was unimpressive. He should still hold onto the goal-line role and have at least flex value when the Eagles are favored - which they won't be at Kansas City this week. [][RB Isaiah Crowell, CLE](=) - Crowell dominated backfield touches with Duke Johnson playing mainly in the slot, and while he didn't post a big line against the Steelers and shouldn't against the Ravens, he's looking like a true feature back and DeShone Kizer should invigorate the offense and improve as the season goes on. [][RB Carlos Hyde, SF](=) - Hyde looked every bit as good as he did last year and he was used heavily in the passing game. He'll have low RB2 value while the 49ers are struggling, but he can get up to RB1 status if they become more competitive. [][RB Christian McCaffrey, CAR](=) - McCaffrey didn't make the splash that Kareem Hunt and Leonard Fournette did in Week 1, but the rookie was strong and still central in the passing game with five catches despite being out-touched by Jonathan Stewart. He's a PPR RB2 with room to grow. [][RB LeSean McCoy, BUF](=) - McCoy was dominant, although he ceded a goal line score to Mike Tolbert. He'll get as much as he can handle this year, although his Week 1 may be one of his best of the year because of the easy matchup. [][RB Lamar Miller, HOU](=) - The good news is that Miller will likely be next to a running quarterback in Deshaun Watson for the rest of the season. The bad news is that the Texans are still missing left tackle Duane Brown, their offense stinks even with Watson, and rookie D'Onta Foreman should get more carried going forward. All in all it's a Week 1 wash. [][RB James White, NE](=) - White was the primary Patriots back early and even ran a handful of snaps as a wide receiver, but his numbers were mediocre. He could get more work in a likely shootout against the Saints this week. --------------------------------------------------------------- WIDE RECEIVER UPGRADE [][WR Nelson Agholor, PHI](=) - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Agholor had one of the biggest plays of the day after Carson Wentz kept a play alive with his legs, and Agholor also got a lot of high percentage targets out of the slot. He'll be good high floor PPR depth after going undrafted in most leagues. [][WR Danny Amendola, NE](=) - (waiver wire: 3-5%) - Amendola is sidelined with a concussion and might not be back next week, but it's clear that he is the most likely receiver to be forgotten in coverage in the Patriots offense. He's worth a stash in PPR leagues. [][WR Randall Cobb, GB](=) - Cobb is healthy and back to being a primary chainmover for Aaron Rodgers. If he keeps it up against Atlanta, he'll be a borderline WR2 in PPR leagues. [][WR Corey Coleman, CLE](=) - Coleman got a clutch short score and appears to be the clear #1 for Deshone Kizer after their excellent preseason and Kenny Britt being in the doghouse after a big Week 1 drop. He's a boom/bust WR3/Flex against the Ravens this week. [][WR Amari Cooper, OAK](=) - Cooper should have had two scores as he got his hands on three balls in the end zone that he couldn't haul in after his first score, but it is still comforting that the Raiders made such an effort to feature him in that part of the field. [][WR Corey Davis, TEN](=) - Davis wasn't a full-time player to begin the game, but he led the team in targets and led the receivers in catches. He should be the #1 receiver soon enough and he's worth a WR3/Flex start against the Jaguars this week. [][WR Phillip Dorsett, NE](=) - (waiver wire: 1%) - Dorsett should get some run with Danny Amendola sidelined with a concussion. He's a hail mary play that could pay off against the Saints this week. [][WR Kenny Golladay, DET](=) - (waiver wire: 15-30%) - Golladay is a 2A at best in the Lions pass offense, but he's a primary red zone target and deep target for Matthew Stafford. [][WR Tyreek Hill, KC](=) - Hill got free deep for a long score and also got a large share of short targets to provide a strong PPR floor. He's a borderline WR1 heading into a matchup with the Eagles sans Ronald Darby. [][WR DeAndre Hopkins, HOU](=) - Hopkins came alive when Deshaun Watson entered the game. He might not get back to WR1 levels of production, but his outlook is better with Watson than Tom Savage. [][WR Allen Hurns, JAX](=) - (waiver wire: 3-5%) - Hurns is a core starter again, but will have limited upside in this run-heavy offense. He's adequate depth in typical leagues. [][WR Jermaine Kearse, NYJ](=) - (waiver wire: 1% ) - Kearse was the leading receiver for the Jets despite joining the team a week ago. He and Josh McCown have decent chemistry and he could be a good spot start candidate this year in deep leagues. [][WR Cooper Kupp, LAR](=) - (waiver wire: 15-30%) - Kupp's natural chemistry with Jared Goff carried over from the preseason as he had a big Week 1 debut. Sammy Watkins should draw more coverage, making Kupp a potentially consistent WR3/Flex worth a look against Washington this week. [][WR Marqise Lee, JAX](=) - (waiver wire: 3-5%) - Lee will be a full-time receiver with the loss of Allen Robinson and he could have PPR value in high volume passing games for the Jags, but those could be few and far between with this defense and running game driven team. [][WR Rishard Matthews, TEN](=) - Matthews chemistry with Marcus Mariota carried over from last year as he was a top target for the quarterback in the season opener. He might not be a steady everyweek fantasy starter, but he'll be excellent depth and worth more than the late round pick he cost in fantasy leagues. [][WR Paul Richardson, SEA](=) - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Richardson had a sensational downfield catch and outsnapped and targeted Tyler Lockett. He was fantasy relevant despite a poor offensive game from the Seahawks and could be a nice upside play in Week 2 against the 49ers. [][WR Golden Tate, DET](=) - Tate was the #1 target for Matthew Stafford, notching ten receptions for over 100 yards. That role shouldn't change against the Giants and going forward, making him a borderline PPR WR1. [][WR Terrance Williams, DAL](=) - (waiver wire: 1%) - Williams appears to be more prominent in the Cowboys offense than he was last year, with six catches in the opener. He's still a bottom of the barrel waiver wire add because the Broncos secondary is up next. [][WR Kendall Wright, CHI](=) - (waiver wire: 1%) - Wright should be the #1 wide receiver after Kevin White went out for the season, but that is still only worth end of the bench depth in typical leagues. --------------------------------------------------------------- WIDE RECEIVER DOWNGRADE [][WR Robby Anderson, NYJ](=) - Anderson wasn't the #1 target for Josh McCown and probably isn't worth carrying as a speculative stash given the state of the Jets offense. [][WR Tavon Austin, LAR](=) - Austin is the fourth wide receiver in the Rams offense and it doesn't seem like there has been an effort to use him heavily. He's droppable. [][WR Kenny Britt, CLE](
