SEA: Pete Carroll moving to a different role [Source: Seattle Seahawks on Twitter]() Seattle Seahawks HC Pete Carroll is moving into a different role with the team. He will now transition into a front office advisory role, according to the Chair of the Seahawks, Jody Allen. Our view: Wow! Earlier this week, Carroll said he was not burned out and would be returning as the head coach. Now, he's taking an executive role with the team, and his responsibilities are not yet known. The obvious selection to replace him is Dallas Cowboys DC Dan Quinn, who was with the Seahawks for a few years earlier in his career. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. MIA: No concern for Tyreek Hill [Source: NFL.com]() Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill's (ankle, quadriceps) new quadriceps injury is not a cause for concern, head coach Mike McDaniel said on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Our view: Good news for the Dolphins here as they travel to face the Chiefs (Hill's former team of course) in the Wild Card Round. The bad news is that weather will be a factor as temperatures are supposed to be in the single digits on Saturday at kickoff. In fact, there's a chance it could be below zero during the game. That's not great for a team from South Beach. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. TB: Baker Mayfield has ankle injury [Source: NFL.com]() Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in Week 18 but is feeling better and will see how things go during the week, he said on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Our view: If it's not one thing, it's another with Mayfield. He's battled through various injuries this year including ribs, and now he's dealing with a bad ankle. They'll limit him during the week of practice to get him as ready as possible for the Wild Card game against the Eagles on Monday. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. CLE: Amari Cooper says he's good to go [Source: ESPN - Jake Trotter]() Cleveland Browns WR Amari Cooper (heel) said he's good to go for the AFC Wild Card game against the Houston Texans. Our view: Cooper can be a slant king for QB Joe Flacco. We're not saying he'll go for over 200 yards receiver, but a 100-yard game could be on the docket. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. SF: Christian McCaffrey to sit all week [Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner](=) San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (calf) will not practice at all during the team's bye week due to his calf injury, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Our view: The most dangerous weapon in the league, McCaffrey made it through the bumps and bruises of the regular season. Now, he's getting some much-needed rest. Per Shanahan, McCaffrey is expected to return to practice next week. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. BUF: Gabe Davis a 'DNP' [Source: Buffalo Bills PR]() Buffalo Bills WR Gabe Davis (knee) did not take part in practice on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Our view: It's not a great way to begin the week of practice for Davis. He's a true game-time decision for the Wild Card game against the Steelers on Sunday. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. PHI: A.J. Brown having MRI [Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero]() Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown (knee) is undergoing an MRI on his knee Wednesday, Jan. 10. Our view: The Eagles have the Buccaneers coming up in the Wild Card Round on Monday. The game is on Monday night, so Brown's got some more time to heal. If he suits up, he clearly is not going to be 100 percent. This could mean more targets for DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. GB: Romeo Doubs is day-to-day [Source: PackersWire - Zach Kruse](=) Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs (chest) is considered day-to-day after suffering a chest injury in Week 18, head coach Matt LaFleur said. Our view: A chest injury can be painful to play with. Let's check Doubs' participation level during the week of practice as the Packers prepare to take on the Cowboys on Sunday in the Wild Card Round. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. BUF: Josh Allen a full participant [Source: Buffalo Bills PR]() Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (neck) practiced in full on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Our view: Allen and the Bills are trying to make a Super Bowl run again. It begins on Sunday against the Steelers, and Allen will be out there slinging the rock. He's been banged up quite a bit this year, but if healthy (enough) Allen is still one of the best in the league. [Back to Top](#top) [] 10. CLE: Jeff Driskel named the backup [Source: Click2Houston.com - Aaron Wilson]( Cleveland Browns QB Jeff Driskel was named the team's backup quarterback for the playoffs on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Our view: Driskel started in Week 18 while Joe Flacco got some rest. Flacco has been hot during his time as the starter for the Browns, and they'll be one of the toughest teams to face in the postseason. On Saturday, Flacco and company travel to play the Texans in the Wild Card Round. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. CHI: Bears part with 3 more coaches [Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter]( Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears running backs coach Omar Young, wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert and assistant tight ends coach Tim Zetts were fired on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Our view: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Bears head coach Matt Eberflus will return in 2024. However, the team is cleaning house on the offensive side of the ball. The future of QB Justin Fields remains up in the air, but Eberflus will no doubt be on the hot seat in 2024. [Back to Top](#top) [] 12. LAC: Ian Cunningham requested by LAC [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport](=) Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham was requested to interview for the Los Angeles Chargers general manager vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 9. Our view: The Chargers made a change at the top when they let go of GM Tom Telesco. Cunningham is one of the most talented executives out there with an extensive history as a scout and evaluator. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update.
