SF: Christian McCaffrey unlikely for Week 18 [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport](=) San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (calf) is unlikely to play in Week 18 due to a calf strain, in the opinion of NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Our view: The 49ers don't have anything to play for in Week 18, so McCaffrey is going to get some rest before the playoffs. We'll see Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason split time/touches in the 49ers backfield as they play against the Rams at home in the season finale. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. PHI: DeVonta Smith update [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport](=) Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles WR DeVonta Smith (ankle) is believed to have a mild ankle sprain and will undergo testing Monday, Jan. 1. Our view: Smith was seen on crutches and in a walking boot after the game. A mild ankle sprain sounds...well, mild...but we'll have to see what Smith can do during the week of practice. The Eagles play on the road against the Giants in Week 18. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. MIA: Tua Tagovailoa all good [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport](=) Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (shoulder) said his left shoulder is fine, just sore, after the game Sunday, Dec. 31. Our view: Good news for the Dolphins here. It's a huge game in the season finale against the Bills. The winner gets the division title, and the Bills will be out of the playoffs if they lose. Tagovailoa should be limited during the week of practice. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. MIA: Torn ACL for Bradley Chubb [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport]() Miami Dolphins LB Bradley Chubb (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Week 17 and was lost for the season. Our view: Tough news for the Dolphins here. It's a huge loss as Chubb was a key part of the defense and having a great season. It's even tougher as the team also is without Jaelan Phillips who's out with an Achilles tear. PIT: Mason Rudolph to start finale [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport](=) Pittsburgh Steelers QB Mason Rudolph was named the starter for Week 18, despite QB Kenny Pickett's health being good enough to play, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Our view: Rudolph is playing good football, and in two games (both wins) he's got 564 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. The Steelers are riding the hot hand as they travel to face the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday in Week 18. The Ravens have wrapped up the no.1 overall seed, so they'll likely rest some starters in the season finale. The Steelers are on the bubble with a 29 percent chance to make the playoffs. They'll have to win and have some help to make the postseason. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. GB: Jayden Reed having further tests [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport]() Green Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed (ribs) had X-rays Monday, Jan. 1, which were negative. He will undergo further testing and is pretty sore, according to sources. His Week 18 status is in the air. Our view: Ribs injuries always come down to pain tolerance. Reed has been fantastic for the Packers in his rookie season. Against the Bears in Week 18, the Packers may see if Reed can give it a go. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. DEN: Jarrett Stidham will start Week 18 [Source: Denver Gazette - Chris Tomasson](=) Denver Broncos QB Jarrett Stidham will start against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18, the team announced Monday, Jan. 1. Our view: Stidham was pretty average (at best) in the Broncos win over the Chargers in Week 17. However, he ran the Sean Payton offense true to design unlike former starter Russell Wilson. We'll see Wilson likely serve as the primary backup to Stidham as the Broncos travel to face the Raiders in Week 18. NO: Alvin Kamara dealing with ankle sprain [Source: NewOrleans.Football - Mike Triplett]() New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara (ankle) is dealing with an ankle sprain, and the team is waiting to see how he responds throughout the week, according to sources Monday, Jan. 1. Our view: At halftime, Kamara was ruled out of Week 17 against the Buccaneers, finishing with 10 carries for 45 yards, adding two catches for four additional yards. Against the Falcons in Week 18, the Saints might be leaning on veteran Jamaal Williams as their primary back. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. TB: Baker Mayfield expected to play in finale [Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine](=) Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield (ribs) is dealing with soreness but is expected to play in Week 18 against the Carolina Panthers, the team announced Monday, Jan. 1. Our view: Mayfield struggled against the Saints in Week 17, and he got banged up with this ribs injury. Against the Panthers in Week 18, Mayfield should perform better as the Buccaneers are looking to secure the NFC South title and head to the postseason with some momentum.
