â [] 1. SF: Brock Purdy in protocol [Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner]() San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (concussion) has been placed in the concussion protocol after experiencing symptoms following the Week 7 game. Our view: This is something to monitor during the week. Purdy had symptoms during the flight back to San Francisco after Monday night's loss to the Vikings. He's being put in the protocol in the middle of the week, and Purdy may not be ready for Week 8. That means Sam Darnold could be starting for the 49ers as they play the Bengals at home on Sunday afternoon. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. CLE: PJ Walker promoted [Source: ClevelandBrowns.com]( Cleveland Browns QB PJ Walker was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster on Wednesday, Oct. 25. In addition, free-agent RBs Nate McCrary and Jordan Wilkins were signed to the practice squad. Our view: Walker is going to start against the Seahawks. Deshaun Watson is out of action again. â [] 3. BUF: Dawson Knox ruled out [Source: Buffalo Bills PR]() Buffalo Bills TE Dawson Knox (wrist) did not practice for the third straight day on Wednesday, Oct. 25, and has been ruled out for Week 8. Our view: Knox won't be back for at least a few weeks as he recovers from this wrist injury. Dalton Kincaid should get more work, and you could easily make the argument that the rookie tight end is the second-best receiver on the team behind WR Stefon Diggs. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. CHI: Roschon Johnson practices [Source: Chicago Bears PR](=) Chicago Bears RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Our view: Johnson is still in the concussion protocol, but he needs to practice in order to see how his body responds. This means Johnson could come out of the protocol and be ready for Week 8 against the Chargers. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. CLE: Deshaun Watson out for Week 8 [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport]() Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson (shoulder) will not play in Week 8 and QB PJ Walker will start in his place, head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Our view: Watson knows his body, and that's why he's calling the shot about his playing status. The team medically cleared him weeks ago, but the Browns aren't going to force him out to the field. Walker gets another start, this time against the Seahawks on Sunday. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. BUF: Josh Allen good to go [Source: Buffalo Bills PR]() Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (shoulder) practiced in full all week and carries no designation into Week 8. Our view: Allen is one of the toughest players in the game. There's no doubt he's going to play, but the question remains how good will he be on Thursday against the Buccaneers? We are fixing to find out. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. TB: Chase Edmonds activated [Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler]() Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Chase Edmonds (knee) was activated from injured reserve on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Our view: The Buccaneers play on Thursday night against the Bills. We're curious to see what kind of role Edmonds can carve out for himself. Rashaad White isn't exactly setting the league on fire, so there's an opportunity for Edmonds if he can stay healthy and make plays. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. CLE: Jerome Ford to avoid IR [Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler]() Cleveland Browns RB Jerome Ford (ankle) has responded well to early treatment and is expected to avoid injured reserve and miss one to two weeks, per source on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Our view: Ford is going to miss a week or two, so the Browns will turn to guys like Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong in the meantime. It's going to be an RBBC, so don't go crazy with expectations for either back. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. CHI: Justin Fields sits Wednesday [Source: Chicago Bears PR](=) Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields (thumb) did not practice on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Our view: Fields remains week-to-week according to HC Matt Eberflus. Earlier this week, Eberflus said Fields is "doubtful" for Week 8 against the Chargers. That means another week of Tyson Bagent as the Bears' starter, and that means they'll lean on their rushing attack again. NYG: Daniel Jones still not cleared [Source: NFL.com]() New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (neck) will practice on Wednesday, Oct. 25, but he still has yet to be cleared for contact, head coach Brian Daboll said. Our view: We're not yet sure if Jones is going to be ready to play against the Jets in Week 8. If he can't go, Tyrod Taylor would get another start. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. WAS: Curtis Samuel does not practice [Source: Commanders.com]() Washington Commanders WR Curtis Samuel (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25. Our view: Samuel's status during the week, primarily on Friday, needs to be monitored. Fantasy GMs have been getting flex value with upside from Samuel this season. We'll know more about his status at the end of the week. [Back to Top](#top) [] 12. PIT: Najee Harris a load to bring down [Source: ProFootballReference.com]() Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris ranks second in the league with 14 broken tackles in 2023, only three behind leader Travis Etienne, according to Pro Football Reference. Harris is averaging a league-best mark of one broken tackle every 5.5 carries. Our view: Harris is doing his best to make the most of the situation. He's still working in an RBBC with Jaylen Warren, but Harris is still the lead back. From a fantasy perspective, Harris is an RB2/flex play on a weekly basis. [Back to Top](#top) [] 13. TEN: Treylon Burks takes part in practice [Source: PaulKuharsky.com - Paul Kuharsky]( Tennessee Titans WR Treylon Burks (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25. Our view: The Titans had a bye in Week 7, and it looks like Burks could be back in action this week after missing three games previously. With the quarterback change to Will Levis (with Malik Willis), Burks becomes more of a 'what the heck' flex upon his return in Week 8. [Back to Top](#top) [] 14. IND: Michael Pittman Jr. unhappy with role [Source: Indianapolis Star - Nate Atkins](=) Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. vented frustration with his lack of targets in the Week 7 loss to the Cleveland Browns. 'They just didn't target me today, for whatever reason,' Pittman said on Sunday, Oct. 22. 'Maybe I'm not a big part of the offense.' Our view: Pittman caught 2-of-5 targets for 83 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' Week 7 loss to the Browns. That's not enough for a player of Pittman's skill set. When receivers do this, some roll their eyes, but we like it and believe it could lead to more targets going forward. [Back to Top](#top) [] 15. DAL: Tony Pollard a monster after the catch [Source: ProFootballReference.com](=) Dallas Cowboys RB Tony Pollard leads the league with 12 broken tackles on receptions in 2023, according to Pro Football Reference. Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert (seven) is the only other player with more than six. Our view: Coming out of their Week 7 bye, we're curious to see if the Cowboys have figured out how to get Pollard more involved. We also want to see if QB Dak Prescott can figure out how to be better against zone defense. A top-10 fantasy back last year, Pollard is disappointing Fantasy GMs this year and performing like a low-end RB2. [Back to Top](#top) [] 16. IND: Anthony Richardson's surgery a success [Source: Jim Irsay - official Twitter page]() Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) had successful shoulder surgery on Tuesday, Oct. 24. Richardson is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season. Our view: Richardson flashed incredible talent and upside in the few games we saw him this year. However, he does not play with any regard for his safety. We'll see him next year, and hopefully he does a good job of making plays but also protecting himself. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update.
