[MIA - WR DeVante Parker compared to WR Alshon Jeffery](=) Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley Miami Dolphins WR [DeVante Parker](=) is comparable to Philadelphia Eagles WR [Alshon Jeffery](=) but with more speed, according to QB [Jay Cutler](=). [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Cutler is a bold thrower who will give a receiver a chance to win 50-50 balls, which is not a big part of Ryan Tannehill's game. Parker's outlook is improving and he might be worth drafting ahead of Jarvis Landry at this point. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [PIT - Le'Veon Bell turned down huge five-year offer](=) Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell, who has yet to report to training camp, reportedly turned down a five-year contract extension averaging more than $12 million per year annually that his agent and the team had agreed upon right before the July 17 NFL deadline for franchise players to sign long-term deals. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Steelers can always franchise him again next year, but if Bell is intent on moving on unless he gets a huge deal, they could move on, too. Bell staying healthy is crucial to preserving his long-term value on the market. Hold onto those James Conner dynasty shares. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CAR - QB Cam Newton to sit against Tennessee]() Source: ESPN.com - David Newton Carolina Panthers QB [Cam Newton](=) (shoulder) will not play versus the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, Aug. 19. Head coach Ron Rivera made the decision after the second of two joint practices against the Titans on Thursday, Aug. 17, and Newton did not throw in team drills during either practice. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There haven't been any glaring signs that the Panthers are worried about Newton, but if he can't go in the third preseason game, it might lower our expectations for him in his great matchup against the 49ers to open the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon injures hamstring](=) Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco Jacksonville Jaguars RB [T.J. Yeldon](=) (hamstring) suffered a left hamstring strain in the first quarter and did not return against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Aug. 17. Yeldon finished with two carries for two yards. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Yeldon might not be guaranteed a roster spot after Corey Grant carried over his impressive Week 17 from last year to the preseason opener last week. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [PIT - Joshua Dobbs could move up depth chart]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Pittsburgh Steelers QB Joshua Dobbs has a chance to earn the No. 2 quarterback job, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This probably has as much to do with Landry Jones development flatlining as it does with Dobbs being ahead of the curve. With Ben Roethlisberger's injury history, the #2 for the Steelers is likely to see the field this year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [PIT - RB James Conner set to make debut]( Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) is scheduled to play against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Aug. 20. Head coach Mike Tomlin expects to give Conner as much work as possible. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If Conner can hold up in the last three preseason games, he should lock up the backup job behind LeVeon Bell which was golden for fantasy football when DeAngelo Williams (still unsigned) held it. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NYJ - RB Bilal Powell to suit up Saturday](=) Source: NewYorkJets.com - Ethan Greenberg New York Jets RB [Bilal Powell](=) (neck) expected to play against the Detroit Lions on Saturday, Aug. 19, while RB [Matt Forte](=) (hamstring) will not. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Forte's hamstring could give Powell the starting job to open the season. Powell was a solid to strong RB1 when Forte was a non-factor last year, but that was on a Jets team that didn't seem to be playing for next year already. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [JAX - PK Dan Carpenter to visit Jacksonville]( Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport Free-agent PK Dan Carpenter (Bills) will work out for the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jason Myers has been too inconsistent for the team to trust. They might not keep Carpenter if Myers improves, but he is definitely a few steps out on the plank. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [BAL - Jeremy Zuttah back with Baltimore]( Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec Baltimore Ravens C Jeremy Zuttah (49ers) signed an undisclosed two-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, Aug. 18. To make room for him on the roster, the Ravens waived/injured WR Kenny Bell. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Zuttah wasn't good enough for the 49ers, but he might start for the Ravens after they let him walk this offseason. While it could improve their line, it's still a sign that they are going to be weak at center this year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [NE - Derek Rivers' season may be over]() Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss and Field Yates Updating previous reports, New England Patriots LB Derek Rivers (knee) is feared to have suffered a season-ending knee injury, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Rivers was supposed to help this team get over the loss of Rob Ninkovich, Chris Long and Jabaal Sheard. Kony Ealy isn't having a great summer either. The Patriots pass rush could be a problem this year if Dont'a Hightower can't stay healthy. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor still the starter](=) Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown Buffalo Bills QB [Tyrod Taylor](=) will remain atop the depth chart, according to post-game comments from head coach Sean McDermott Thursday, Aug. 17. Taylor struggled badly during the team's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The dreaded vote of confidence does not ensure that Taylor will remain the starter for long on a team that is looking to next year. Taylor could also be dangled as a trade target. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [BAL - TE Maxx Williams makes an impression]() Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley Baltimore Ravens TE [Maxx Williams](=) had two catches for 48 yards, including a 40-yard grab, against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, Aug. 17. It was the best that Williams has looked all summer, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Williams rumbled through the defense on his catch and run, and should provide more than Ben Watson or Nick Boyle can, although that might not be enough to be fantasy relevant. The 23-year-old is showing that he should be rostered in dynasty leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [JAX - QB Blake Bortles not a lock to start]( Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said QB [Blake Bortles](=) has to earn the starting quarterback job and indicated QB [Chad Henne](=) has a chance to take the job. Marrone said he is looking for the best person to lead the offense. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That Marrone is saying this after two preseason games is a sign that Bortles is in trouble. Henne is looking like the Week 1 starter unless Bortles turns this around. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [JAX - WR Allen Robinson has solid performance](=) Source: NFL.com Jacksonville Jaguars WR [Allen Robinson](=) caught five passes for 40 yards in the preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Aug. 17. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Robinson was wide open and missed by Blake Bortles in the most memorable play from the game. He could get a new starter by Week 1, which can't hurt his outlook. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [JAX - WR Dede Westbrook finishes with 131 yards](=) Source: NFL.com Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook caught six passes for 131 yards in the preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Aug. 17. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Westbrook was a late-game star again this week. He is looking like a good bet to be in the top three receivers for this team next year, if not start. Allen Hurns is overpaid and Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee will be both free agents. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [BAL - QB Joe Flacco will not practice yet](=) Source: BaltimoreRavens.com Baltimore Ravens QB [Joe Flacco](=) (back) is not expected to practice this week because the team is sticking to their timeline for him, according to head coach John Harbaugh. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Ravens haven't signed another quarterback and Ryan Mallett hasn't been impressive so far in the preseason, so they must trust Flacco to be okay for Week 1. It's still not building confidence in drafting Ravens on our fantasy teams. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [DET - TE Eric Ebron remains sidelined](=) Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett Detroit Lions TE [Eric Ebron](=) (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 17. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ebron's hamstring issue isn't going away. This makes it more difficult to take him as your TE1, as he might not be in game shape to open the season and faces a good set of linebackers and safeties vs. Arizona Week 1.
