We're still looking for clarity on Christian McCaffrey as we work our way toward games this week. Cecil Lammey has the News and Notes you need. Let's Go. SF: Christian McCaffrey still awaiting clarity [Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner](=) Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (oblique, rib) is still awaiting results from imaging on his injured oblique area. Our view: Head coach Kyle Shanahan said they weren't sure if it involves the ribs and oblique or just one, but he's hopeful McCaffrey can play in Week 7. The team has a bye in Week 9, so perhaps McCaffrey should just get some rest as the 49ers are looking to make a run at the Super Bowl. The best chance of that happening is a healthy McCaffrey. 49ers writer, Matt Maiocco reported, "As I understand it, Christian McCaffrey's injury is more of a pain-tolerance thing. The extra day helps. At this point, it's not out of the question McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams can all be available for MNF vs. the Vikings." Bottom line is stay tuned here. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. KC: Patrick Mahomes playing at very high level [Source: ProFootballReference.com]() Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes leads all qualified quarterbacks with an 84.2 on-target percentage and is tied for the third-lowest mark in the league with a bad throw percentage of 10.7, per Pro Football Reference. Our view: Mahomes is just having fun out there. We're excited to see the chemistry continue to build with Mahomes and rookie WR Rashee Rice. The Chiefs are rolling towards another run at the Super Bowl, and with the way Mahomes is playing they could get another ring. [Back to Top](#top) = = [] 3. JAX: Travis Etienne making a mockery of defenders [Source: ProFootballReference.com]() Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne leads the league with 16 broken tackles, four more than second-place David Montgomery and seven more than any other player, according to Pro Football Reference. Our view: Etienne can beat you with speed and agility which helps him break tackles from defenders who take bad angles. In six games this season, Etienne ranks as the no.5 fantasy running back in standard-scoring formats with 451 yards rushing, 5 rushing touchdowns, 21 catches, and 172 receiving yards. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. PHI: Julio Jones to resume his career with Philly [Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com]( Free-agent WR Julio Jones (Buccaneers) signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. Our view: Raise your hand if you had Jones signing this year on your 2023 fantasy football bingo card. He's nowhere near the player he used to be, but Jones catching passes from QB Jalen Hurts is somewhat intriguing. From a fantasy perspective, we'll advise a wait-and-see approach. However, if you're in a super deep league then he's the type of guy some will take a chance on. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. TEN: Ryan Tannehill update [Source: ESPN - Jeff Darlington](=) Updating previous reports, Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) is in a cast but will not require surgery on his high-ankle sprain. He has no timetable for his return. Our view: A high-ankle sprain can cost a player a month or so. We'll have to see how quickly Tannehill can recover from this injury. Until then, let's see if the Titans go with Malik Willis (who has fantasy value because of his rushing ability) or if they go with rookie Will Levis while Tannehill is out of action. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. LAR: Royce Freeman called up [Source: TheRams.com](=) Los Angeles Rams RB Royce Freeman was signed off the practice squad and added to the active roster on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Our view: Zero surprise here. With both Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) out of action, the Rams needed help at the position. Freeman should play as a reserve behind projected starter Zach Evans. [Back to Top](#top) The best things sent in the Footballguys Group Chat today: - 🐻 Hello darkness, my old friend. NFL - Leonard Fournette drawing interest [Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero]() Free-agent RB Leonard Fournette (Buccaneers) is in great shape and drawing interest from multiple teams. Our view: It was originally reported that Fournette was going to work out for the Bills with Damien Harris (neck) banged up. Now, that's not happening but it doesn't mean there's a lack of interest. Fournette will have some interest as the season goes on, but he may have to wait until at least after the trade deadline or maybe even as long as the eve of the postseason before a team brings him on board. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. LAR: LA Rams bring back Darrell Henderson [Source: TheRams.com](=) Free-agent RB Darrell Henderson (Jaguars) was signed to the practice squad of the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Our view: Henderson knows the offense, as he played for the Rams from 2019-2022 as a third-round pick for them out of Memphis. He was fairly productive for the Rams, but that was back in 2020 (625 rushing yards) and 2021 (688 rushing yards). He will work into the mix behind projected starter Zach Evans and veteran backup Royce Freeman. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. ARI: Kyler Murray getting closer to a return [Source: The Arizona Republic - Bob McManaman]() Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray (knee) is doing a 'good job' in his rehab, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon. Per Gannon, Murray is 'trending in the right direction' to be designated to return from the Physically Unable to Perform list - perhaps as soon as Wednesday, Oct. 18.'Yeah, he's doing a good job. I like the week that he had. We've got to kind of see here the next couple days, see how tonight goes and tomorrow goes, and again, though, we're not rushing that. We're making sure that he feels good about going out there, but he's trending in the right direction,' Gannon told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. Our view: Another report about Murray on Tuesday, and backs up previous reports about two things. First, Murray needs to do a bit more for his coach to activate him. Second, it sounds like things are trending well and have been during Murray's recovery. Stay patient, it seems like we're getting closer to a decision on when Murray could return.
