SF: MRIs for Christian McCaffrey [Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner]() San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (oblique, rib) is undergoing MRIs Monday, Oct. 16, on the oblique and rib injuries he suffered during the Week 6 game. Our view: We'll hopefully have clarity Tuesday on McCaffrey's status. Stay tuned. As far as who would see work if McCaffrey were to miss time, KNBR.com had this: Coach Kyle Shanahan said, "I mean, Elijah has earned a ton with us over these years. I think Elijah, when he's been healthy, has been as good of a back as there is. He's had a hard time staying healthy, but I also can't take away anything from JP. I mean, every time JP's got his opportunities, you guys see how he's done. So both of those guys have done very well. Elijah came back and practiced late last week on Thursday, so he only got really one true day of practice in and that's why JP got the first nod once Christian came out, but we've got two really good players there, And I know Ty Davis-Price is waiting for his opportunity also. So hopefully Christian will be good to go this week, but if not, we've got a group of backs we can rely on." [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. BUF: Josh Allen avoids major injury [Source: NFL.com]() Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (shoulder) will undergo more tests, but the indication is that he avoided a major injury, per sources Monday, Oct. 16. Our view: They are calling his status "Day to Day." Allen will likely be limited while he's dealing with this shoulder injury. Bills coach Sean McDermott said Allen is sore but will be "all right." [Back to Top](#top) = = [] 3. CHI: Justin Fields doubtful for Week 7 [Source: NFL.com]() Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields (thumb) is not expected to play in Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders after suffering a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand in Week 6, per sources Monday, Oct. 16. Our view: Without Fields, the Bears could turn to undrafted rookie QB Tyson Bagent. Fields is not expected to undergo surgery to repair his thumb injury. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. BUF: Damien Harris update [Source: The Score - Jordan Schultz](=) Buffalo Bills RB Damien Harris (neck) has full movement of his extremities and suffered what was diagnosed as a neck sprain, per sources Monday, Oct. 16. Our view: Neck injuries are nothing to mess around with, and it was unnerving to see Harris taken away by ambulance. He's expected to be okay, but it's unknown if Harris will be able to practice this week. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. JAX: Trevor Lawrence having MRI [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport](=) Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence (knee) is slated for an MRI Monday, Oct. 16, but the hope is he's available Thursday, Oct. 19, for their Week 7 game. Our view: Lawrence said that he feels OK and that he will have his left knee checked out. The quarterback said he didn't want to speculate on his status for Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, which is a quick turnaround on Thursday Night Football in Week 7. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. SF: Trent Williams injury update [Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio](=) San Francisco 49ers OT Trent Williams (ankle) did not suffer a high ankle sprain during the Week 6 game, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Our view: Good news for Williams and this offense. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. DET: David Montgomery to miss some time [Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman](=) Detroit Lions RB David Montgomery (ribs) will miss some time because of cartilage issues in his ribs, according to head coach Dan Campbell. Our view: This backfield seems to be constantly shifting. Keep an eye this week for news on Montgomery and also the status of Jahmyr Gibbs as it looks like he could be available this week. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. LVR: Jimmy Garoppolo 'dodged a big bullet' [Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo]( Las Vegas Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo (back) 'dodged a big bullet,' according to head coach Josh McDaniels on Monday, Oct. 16. Our view: Tests apparently ruled out internal injuries. "Seems like we've dodged a big bullet in that regard," coach Josh McDaniels said. "So that's good news." Further tests are pending, McDaniels said, leaving Garoppolo's status a question mark for Sunday's game at Chicago. "There's still a lot to uncover," McDaniels said. "We'll make sure we're doing all the right things moving forward. But the prognosis is a lot better than it might have otherwise been." If Garopppolo doesn't get cleared to play, the Raiders could turn back to rookie QB Aidan O'Connell. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. LAR: Kyren Williams expected to miss Week 7 [Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter]() Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams (ankle) is not expected to play in Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to an ankle sprain, but the injury is not considered long-term, per sources Monday, Oct. 16. Our view: Rookie Zach Evans is the next man up with Ronnie Rivers (knee) also banged up. We'll see how much the team trusts Evans, but the physical talent is there. Veteran RB Royce Freeman could get some playing time too. [Back to Top](#top) The best things sent in the Footballguys Group Chat today: - 👻 It’s Spooky Season! CAR: CAR OC to call plays [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero]() Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will take over play-calling duties from head coach Frank Reich. Our view: The Panthers have a bye in Week 7, and when they return to play the Texans in Week 8 it will be Brown calling the plays. They haven't won a game this year, and no.1 overall pick Bryce Young has only 967 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions in five starts. We're curious to see how Brown's play-calling could get the most out of an offense that has been disappointing to start the 2023 season. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. CAR: Laviska Shenault update [Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero]( Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers WR Laviska Shenault Jr. (ankle) is believed to have suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 6. Our view: Shenault is likely to miss some time with a high-ankle sprain. That's an injury that could cost him up to a month in recovery time. Shenault has talent as a runner and receiver, but he's one of the most oft-injured players in the league. [Back to Top](#top) [] 12. MIA: Chris Brooks week to week [Source: NFL.com]() Miami Dolphins RB Christopher Brooks (ankle) is considered week-to-week, per sources Monday, Oct. 16. Our view: We like Brooks in deep dynasty formats. A Matt Waldman favorite, Brooks can win with power and efficiency. We'll see how his ankle responds to treatment. If healthy, Brooks is competing for touches behind Raheem Moster, Jeff Wilson, and Salvon Ahmed. [Back to Top](#top) [] 13. LAR: Ronnie Rivers out a few weeks [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport](=) Los Angeles Rams RB Ronnie Rivers (knee) is expected to miss a few weeks due to a PCL sprain, per sources Monday, Oct. 16. Our view: Rivers had flashed a bit behind Kyren Williams. Now, the Rams could be turning to guys like rookie RB Zach Evans in the backfield with Williams expected to miss Week 7. Veteran RB Royce Freeman is on the practice squad too. [Back to Top](#top) [] 14. IND: Alec Pierce has shoulder injury [Source: NFL.com]() Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce (shoulder) is dealing with a shoulder injury he sustained in Week 6 and will be monitored throughout the week, per sources Monday, Oct. 16. Our view: Pierce was knocked out of action in the fourth quarter, and now we'll see what he can do during the week of practice. There are rumblings the Colts could have an interest in WR Jerry Jeudy (Broncos) on the trade market...so we'll see if any transactions change the pecking order in the room. [Back to Top](#top) [] 15. PIT: Diontae Johnson returns to practice [Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero]() Pittsburgh Steelers WR Diontae Johnson (hamstring) was designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Oct. 16. Our view: Johnson has a 21-day window to return to the field. There is a belief that Johnson could be ready for Week 7. Upon his return, and when he's closer to full strength, Johnson has flex appeal for Fantasy GMs out there. [Back to Top](#top) [] 16. TEN: Ryan Tannehill on crutches after game [Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter]( Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) was on crutches following the Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens in London. Our view: Tannehill left the game due to a right ankle injury, and he is expected to have an MRI once the team returns to Nashville. QB Malik Willis finished up for Tannehill. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Tannehill will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of his ankle injury. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks.
