We've got fun college games on Saturday and then the Main Event Sunday with Week 5 games. Don't forget about the early London game and make sure you're ready Saturday night. The big stories this week are the returns of Cooper Kupp and Jonathan Taylor. I asked our Injury Expert Adam Hutchison what he was expecting from Kupp, and I asked our Sigmund Bloom how he saw Taylor. Here's Adam on Kupp: Per Adam Schefter, the Rams have activated Cooper Kupp from Injured Reserve (IR). So what does this mean? Well, for starters, the Rams have a 21-day window to decide if they are going to activate Kupp to play in regular season games or shut him down for good. There are a lot of mixed messages out there but the Rams likely activated Kupp because they think he is close. Doing so before he was ready would be an ineffective use of their IR. For fantasy purposes, here's what you need to know: On average, players who return from a hamstring injury they re-injured see a 10% decline in snaps in their first game back. In the several instances where Kupp returned from injury, his snap share decreased by 18% in his first games back. Analyzing fantasy production, on average, WRs who reaggravated their hamstring see fantasy points decrease by 20% during their first game back. Which suggests these players were eased back in. And that's exactly what I would expect for Cooper Kupp - being slowly reintroduced to the offense. Projecting the best case, he plays 80% of the Rams snaps, but it's probably closer to 55-65%. Applying this data to Kupp's fantasy production last season puts him at around 13 PPR points and a solid flex option for a return in Week 5. And here's Sigmund on Taylor: Things look a lot better for Jonathan Taylor's fantasy stock than they did when he was placed on the PUP list before the season. He's practicing and likely to play in Week 5. While Zack Moss played well in his stead - perhaps better than he had at any point in his career - Moss can't hold a candle to Taylor's natural abilities as a runner. The fact that Moss had the most productive stretch of his career in this Colts offense bodes very well for Taylor's ability to deliver for patient fantasy teams, even if Moss's performance has turned this into a committee. Maybe it has been too long since we've seen a healthy Taylor. He was good enough in 2021 to compete with Christian McCaffrey to be the #1 overall pick in fantasy drafts, and that was with Carson Wentz at quarterback. The running threat that Anthony Richardson poses, plus Shane Steichen's play designs and calls, should set Taylor up to post the best efficiency numbers of his career. Taylor has decided to report to the team - although he won't say he's happy to be a Colt - which means he knows he can do more to enhance his earning potential by playing than he will by sitting. He could decide to let a soft tissue injury - real or imagined - to keep him from giving any more to this organization, but that decision could cast a shadow over negotiations with his next team and cost him more than risking injury to help the organization that won't commit to him long term. There's risk and uncertainty, but upside and rewards to more than match. Taylor's value is a lot more likely to go up from where it is right now than go down. Back to my (Joe's) view, I personally am excited to have both of these players in my lineups wherever possible this week. You might have better options if your team is stacked, but for me, I'm planning on having them in my lineups. And now Sigmund has the News and Notes you need. Let's Go. LAR: Cooper Kupp expected to play [Source: The Athletic - Dianna Russini]() Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp (hamstring) is expected to play in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to sources Friday, Oct. 6. Our view: There's always the risk of another re-injury of his hamstring, but with four teams on bye and Kupp always carrying the ceiling of being the #1 receiver of the week, he should be in your lineup. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. IND: Jonathan Taylor listed as questionable [Source: Colts.com]() Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 6, but is listed as questionable for Week 5. Our view: We're encouraged by the full participation and we think we'll see him on the field this week. [Back to Top](#top) = = [] 3. NYG: Saquon Barkley likely game-time decision [Source: The Athletic - Charlotte Carroll](=) New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (ankle) could be a game-time decision for Week 5 versus the Miami Dolphins. Our view: At least the game is an early start, so you should know whether you'll have Barkley before all but two games kick off this week. If he can't go, Matt Breida will be the lead back, but the Giants offense hasn't been playing well enough to trust a backup running back. Barkley hasn't gotten in a full practice this week, so it's not looking great for his chances of playing on Sunday. Check back in Sunday morning to see if he's active. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. MIA: Chase Claypool lands in Miami [Source: The Athletic - Dianna Russini]( Chicago Bears WR Chase Claypool and a 2025 seventh-round pick were acquired by the Chicago Bears Friday, Oct. 6, in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick. Our view: Claypool will start at the bottom of the depth chart, but Mike McDaniel has experience setting up Deebo Samuel for success, so maybe Claypool could have a hybrid role while Erik Ezukanma, last year's fourth round pick, is on the NFI list. The Dolphins had been using the big wide receiver as a runner at times before he got hurt. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. TEN: Tennessee's Week 5 injury report [Source: TennesseeTitans.com](=) Tennessee Titans WR Treylon Burks (knee), LB Luke Gifford (hamstring) and DT Teair Tart (toe) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 5 versus the Indianapolis Colts. OT Nicholas Petit-Frere (non-injury) practiced in full all week but has also been ruled out. DT Jeffery Simmons (ankle) was added to the injury report following a limited practice on Friday, Oct. 6, but is expected to play. CB Elijah Molden (hamstring), WR Kyle Philips (knee), OG Peter Skoronski (abdomen), TE Josh Whyle (ankle), RB Derrick Henry (rest), DT Denico Autry (groin) and WR DeAndre Hopkins (rest) practiced in full on Friday and no longer appear on the injury report. Our view: Nick Westbrook-Ikhene becomes a what the heck flex or bye/injury WR3 with Burks sitting. He has two scores and two games over 50 receiving yards already this season. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. PIT: Pittsburgh's Week 5 injury report [Source: Steelers.com]( Pittsburgh Steelers OT Dan Moore Jr. (knee), TE Pat Freiermuth (hamstring), DE DeMarvin Leal (concussion), OG James Daniels (groin) and P Pressley Harvin III (hamstring) did not practice on Friday, Oct. 6, and have been ruled out for Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens. LB Alex Highsmith (groin) was upgraded to limited practice on Friday and is listed as questionable. RB Najee Harris (hamstring) was added to the injury report following a limited practice on Friday but is expected to play. QB Kenny Pickett (knee), LB Cole Holcomb (back) and OT Chukwuma Okorafor (elbow) practiced in full on Friday and no longer appear on the injury report. CB Patrick Peterson (rest) and OG Isaac Seumalo (elbow) were not given practice designations for a second straight day on Friday but are also expected to play. Our view: Pickett will start, but it's hard to know if that's good news. The offensive line will be missing two starters and their starting tight end, so the rookie combo of Darnell Washington and Broderick Jones will be lining up next to each other like they did at Georgia. There's not a clear startable player in this offense, but you might have to start one anyway with four teams on bye. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. BAL: Week 5 injury report for Baltimore [Source: BaltimoreRavens.com](=) Baltimore Ravens LB Odafe Oweh (ankle) and CB Daryl Worley (shoulder) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 5 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. OT Morgan Moses (shoulder) did not practice on Friday, Oct. 6, and is listed as doubtful. OT Ronnie Stanley (knee, rest) also did not practice on Friday but is listed as questionable. WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) was limited in practice on Friday and is listed as questionable. RB Justice Hill (foot, hamstring), CB Marlon Humphrey (foot) and RB Keaton Mitchell (shoulder) practiced in full on Friday and are also listed as questionable. CB Jalyn Armour-Davis (hamstring), WR Rashod Bateman (hamstring) and S Marcus Williams (pectoral) practiced in full on Friday and have been removed from the injury report. Our view: The matchup with the Steelers is a good one for opposing passing games, but with Bateman back and Beckham possibly back, only Mark Andrews is a safe play. Hill and Mitchell will be potential caps on Gus Edwards ceiling if they are active. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. DET: Detroit's injury report for Week 5 [Source: DetroitLions.com](=) Detroit Lions DB Brian Branch (ankle) and FB Jason Cabinda (knee) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 5 versus the Carolina Panthers. WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (abdomen) also did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful. TE James Mitchell (hamstring) was added to the injury report following a limited practice on Friday, Oct. 6, and is also listed as doubtful. RB Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring) was also added to the injury report on Friday following a limited practice but is listed as questionable. OT Taylor Decker (ankle), S Kerby Joseph (hip), CB Emmanuel Moseley (knee, hamstring), LB Julian Okwara (shoulder), WR Josh Reynolds (groin), OG Halapoulivaati Vaitai (knee) and WR Jameson Williams (non-injury) practiced in full on Friday but are also listed as questionable. C Frank Ragnow (toe, rest) did not practice on Friday but is expected to play. Our view: St. Brown is almost certainly out, which could open up the breakout game possibility for Jahmyr Gibbs. There will be some targets freed up, and they could also fall to Josh Reynolds, Sam LaPorta, Kalif Raymond, or the newly activated Jameson Williams. This is a hit for Jared Goff's outlook against a Carolina pass defense that has been limiting the output of opposing quarterbacks, but at times only because they aren't forcing the opposition to throw to win. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. CIN: Week 5 injury report for Cincinnati [Source: Bengals.com]() Cincinnati Bengals LB Akeem Davis-Gaither (knee) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 5 versus the Arizona Cardinals. CB Chidobe Awuzie (back) and DE Trey Hendrickson (back) did not practice on Friday, Oct. 6, and are listed as questionable. TE Tee Higgins (ribs) was upgraded to limited practice on Friday and is listed as questionable. CB Cam Taylor-Britt (concussion) was upgraded to full practice on Friday but is also listed as questionable. OT Orlando Brown (groin) and TE Irv Smith (hamstring) practiced in full on Friday and no longer appear on the injury report. Our view: Higgins could play, and since his injury isn't to his legs, he probably won't be limited in his snap count if he goes. It's still a very limited Bengals passing game with Joe Burrow hobbled until we see otherwise, so Higgins isn't a must start. The game has a late start out in Arizona, so you might have to decide on Higgins before you know if he'll be active. [Back to Top](#top) [] 10. JAX: Zay Jones 50-50 to play vs. Buffalo [Source: Jaguars.com]() Jacksonville Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills. Our view: Jones probably shouldn't be in lineups this week, but whether he's active or not will affect the upside of Christian Kirk, Calvin Ridley, and Trevor Lawrence this week. Their pass offense hasn't been as potent since he went on the shelf. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. NE: New England's injury report for Week 5 [Source: Patriots.com]( New England Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez (shoulder) and LB Matt Judon (elbow) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints. DT Christian Barmore (knee), DB Cody Davis (knee), DE Trey Flowers (foot), DT Davon Godchaux (ankle), DB Jonathan Jones (ankle), OT Riley Reiff (knee), RB Rhamondre Stevenson (thigh), OG Cole Strange and CB Shaun Wade (shoulder) were limited in practice all week and are listed as questionable. OT Trent Brown (chest) was added to the injury report following a limited practice on Friday, Oct. 6, and is listed as questionable. WR Ty Montgomery (illness) was not given a practice designation on Friday but is expected to be available. Our view: The Patriots lost their two best defenders last week, so it could be a rough afternoon against the Saints. Chris Olave's matchup and Derek Carr's job both got easier when Gonzalez and Judon went down. The Patriots are also a much less attractive D/ST with that duo sidelined. Judon could return this year, but Gonzalez is likely out for the season. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
