1. [IND - QB Andrew Luck building strength but Week 1 in question](
Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr
Indianapolis Colts QB [Andrew Luck](=)'s (shoulder) surgically repaired shoulder is stronger now than it was at any point last season, according to general manager Chris Ballard.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Colts owner Jim Irsay said he felt Luck would be ready "around" the start of the regular season. That doesn't make Luck a lock for Week 1, but it seems like things are trending in that direction. Everyone knows he's a top-5 fantasy quarterback when healthy. He's getting drafted at QB7 (7.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

2. [JAX - RB Leonard Fournette sits out practice Sunday](=)
Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette (foot) sat out of practice due to a foot injury Sunday, Aug. 13.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Keep an eye on this foot injury for the talented rookie. Head coach Doug Marrone was noncommittal when asked if the injury would keep Fournette out of the team's second preseason game against the Buccanners on Thursday.

3. [MIA - RB Jay Ajayi cleared](=)
Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero
Miami Dolphins RB [Jay Ajayi](=) is no longer in the concussion protocol, according to head coach Adam Gase.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news for fantasy owners here. Ajayi is a low-end RB1 if healthy. Especially with Jay Cutler at quarterback, we feel the Dolphins are going to be committed to the ground game. He's going off the board at RB9 (2.04) in 12-team PPR leagues. It shouldn't take Ajayi that long to get back up to speed after missing the early portions of training camp due to this concussion.

4. [CAR - QB Cam Newton takes part in team drills]()
Source: ESPN.com - David Newton
Carolina Panthers QB [Cam Newton](=) (shoulder) is being restricted from making deep throws, but he made some passes during a red zone portion of practice Sunday, Aug. 13.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Panthers are easing Newton along as he returns from this shoulder injury. As the month goes on, Newton should do more and more as they ramp him up for the start of the regular season.

5. [NYG - RB Paul Perkins unimpressive so far]()
Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan
New York Giants RB [Paul Perkins](=) has not 'blown anyone away with his performance this summer,' according to ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan. He also drew criticism from head coach Ben McAdoo for his inability to get a first down on one of his few carries in the team's preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fantasy owners need to take note here. It already was going to be some form of RBBC with the Giants, but Perkins was expected to be the lead back in the committee. Perkins is currently seen as a RB3 and is getting taken off the board near the beginning of the seventh round. Orleans Darkwa has been getting some first-team work in practice, and beat writers for the Giants indicate he's pushing for a featured role.

6. [CHI - WR Markus Wheaton dealing with another injury](=)
Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs
Chicago Bears WR [Markus Wheaton](=) (finger) has been diagnosed with a broken finger on his left hand. Wheaton recently returned to practice after missing time with an appendectomy.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's always something with Wheaton. Even with a fresh start this year with the Bears, we weren't expecting much from Wheaton. He's been a career disappointment ever since the Steelers selected him as a third-round pick out of Oregon State in 2013.

7. [JAX - WR Marqise Lee injury update](
Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport
Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR [Marqise Lee](=) (leg) reportedly did not suffer a serious leg injury as initially feared after he was carted off during practice Sunday, Aug. 13.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's always nerve-wracking when the cart is brought out. The initial reports are positive, but we'll wait for further results. The Jaguars are likely to run the ball more this year, making Lee (their no3 WR) no more than a WR6 for fantasy owners.

8. [KC - TE Travis Kelce returns to practice](
Source: Chiefs.com - B.J. Kissel
Kansas City Chiefs TE [Travis Kelce](=) was back at practice Sunday, Aug. 13, after missing the team's preseason opener with knee soreness.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Chiefs will work him back carefully and monitor his knee for further soreness. If he continues to practice, he should be available for their second preseason game.

9. [LAR - WR Sammy Watkins expects big plays](=)
Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman
Los Angeles Rams WR [Sammy Watkins](=) said he can be 'that home-run guy' for the offense.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Watkins should become a favorite target of second-year QB Jared Goff. We could see him snaring 60-70 catches with his new team...if healthy. Watkins has been banged up quite a bit as a pro and hasn't played a full 16-game season since his rookie year in 2014.

10. [LAR - WR Tavon Austin not practicing this week](
Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez
Los Angeles Rams WR [Tavon Austin](=) (hamstring) will not participate in practice this week because of a hamstring injury.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
With the addition of WR Sammy Watkins, Austin moves down the pecking order with the Rams. His fantasy prospects weren't that great before the addition of Watkins and now he's best left to the waiver wire. Head coach Sean McVay said the team is not sure if Austin will play in any preseason games.

11. [NYG - RB Shaun Draughn may return soon](
Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano
New York Giants RB [Shaun Draughn](=) (ankle) is still on the Physically Unable to Perform list but is close to participating in practice, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Giants are not blown away with Paul Perkins, so there's an opportunity to impress. Orleans Darkwa is pushing for a featured role and when Draughn returns he'd just be competing for a roster spot.
[Back to Top](#top)
---------------------------------------------------------------
[]
12. [NYG - Full practice for WR Sterling Shepard](
Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano
New York Giants WR [Sterling Shepard](=) (ankle) fully participated in practice Sunday, Aug. 13. Shepard may have a chance to play in the second preseason game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It will be interesting to see how Shepard is mixed in this year. The team added WR Brandon Marshall and TE Evan Engram this offseason, and that will cut into the target opportunities for Shepard. He should be drafted as a WR5, and projecting the second-year pro for around 50 catches seems fair.

13. [WAS - TE Jordan Reed expects to return soon]()
Source: ESPN.com - John Keim
Washington Redskins TE [Jordan Reed](=) (toe) said his new cleats and orthotics have made a difference with his sprained big toe.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Everyone already knows that if Reed is healthy then you want him on your fantasy team..and in your starting lineup every week. It's the staying healthy part of things he's struggled with as a pro. Reed is still on the Physically Unable to Perform list but expects to start practicing soon.

14. [BUF - WR Zay Jones lines up with starters](=)
Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia
Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones worked exclusively with the first-team offense during practice Sunday, Aug. 13.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jones gets a larger opportunity with Sammy Watkins traded to the Rams. The rookie was used to a heavy workload from his days in college, and he finished his career with ECU as the all-time leader in receptions at the FBS level. It's a new-look with the rookie Jones plus veterans Anquan Boldin and Jordan Matthews competing to establish a pecking order with the Bills passing attack.

15. [BUF - QB Nathan Peterman works with backups](=)
Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia
Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman worked with the second-team offense during practice Sunday, Aug. 13.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Peterman was drafted this year out of PITT as a developmental quarterback. He's struggled a bit through camp so far, but he might be able to win the backup job behind Tyrod Taylor this year.
[Back to Top](#top)

[]
16. [BUF - WR Jordan Matthews injures chest](=)
Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown
Buffalo Bills WR [Jordan Matthews](=) (chest) suffered a chest injury during practice Sunday, Aug. 13, but was able to finish practice.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
He was being evaluated after practice, and we'll know more about this injury after further evaluation is done. The fact he finished practice shows that it's unlikely to be too severe, but just keep an eye on this situation. With his new team, Matthews is likely to be a big part of the passing game. The Bills aren't a pass-happy offense, so Matthews is likely just a WR5 for fantasy owners in 2017.

17. [KC - Patrick Mahomes works with second-team]()
Source: Chiefs.com - B.J. Kissel
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes worked with the second-team offense during practice Sunday, Aug. 13. Head coach Andy Reid said Mahomes will work with second-team offense during practice this week.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Mahomes is clearly the quarterback of the future, but this is Alex Smith's team...for now. We could see the Chiefs make the move to Mahomes sooner than some think, but it will all depend on the team's record and how quickly Mahomes can develop.

18. [DET - WR Kenny Golladay shines in preseason debut](=)
Source: ESPN.com
Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay finished with three catches for 53 yards and two touchdowns in the team's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Aug. 13.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Golladay made a circus catch to get into the end zone against the Colts. A third-round pick out of Northern Illinois this year, Golladay has a nice size/speed combination. He can get downfield and makes for a nice target on 'jump' balls near the end zone. He'll work as the no3 WR for the Lions behind Golden Tate and Marvin Jones.

19. [NE - WR Malcolm Mitchell limited so far](=)
Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss
New England Patriots WR [Malcolm Mitchell](=) (knee) has mostly only taken part in individual-type drills early in training camp, according to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Mitchell isn't set to do much in the jam-packed WR corps of the Patriots. The second-year pro has a nice size/speed combination and he's built differently from Pats WRs like Julian Edelman, Brandin Cooks and Danny Amendola.
[Back to Top](#top)

[]
20. [NE - TE Dwayne Allen comfortable with new offense](=)
Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss
New England patriots TE [Dwayne Allen](=) is running better than he was in the spring and seems more comfortable with the offense, according to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This is an improvement from what we've seen reported from OTAs and minicamp. It didn't seem like Allen was fitting in early on, but it sounds like he's getting up to speed with what the Patriots want him to do. Allen won't have much fantasy impact so long as Rob Gronkowski is healthy. If Gronk gets banged up, Allen has TE1 upside in this dynamic offense.

21. [DEN - QB Paxton Lynch making better reads?](
Source: 104.3 The Fan - Cecil Lammey
Denver Broncos QB [Paxton Lynch](=) looked more comfortable going through his progressions during practice Saturday, Aug. 12, according to Cecil Lammey of 104.3 The Fan.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lynch hasn't been great during training camp. While he hasn't been awful, Lynch seems to rush his reads and go with the first thing he sees. After an average performance in the Broncos preseason opener, Lynch may have had his best day of training camp on Saturday. He's going to get the first-team reps this week in joint practices against the 49ers and head coach Vance Joseph has already declared Lynch as the starter for their second preseason game. Joseph insists no starter for the regular season has been chosen between Lynch and Trevor Siemian.
