[MIN - RB Latavius Murray not traveling](#24) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [PIT - WR Martavis Bryant reinstated]( Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Pittsburgh Steelers WR [Martavis Bryant](=) is now permitted to participate in all football activities, according to general manager Kevin Colbert. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Colbert also wrote "He will continue to be evaluated as to his readiness to participate in regular-season activities under the terms of his conditional reinstatement." So the league hasn't given the go-ahead for Bryant to play in the regular season yet. One hopes that if he can play in the preseason, he will get cleared for the regular season if he doesn't slip up. There is still risk to taking him in the fifth round, but he has the upside to perform at a 2nd/3rd level. This is a step forward, but we're not to the end yet. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [SEA - RB Thomas Rawls the No. 1 running back?](=) Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta Seattle Seahawks RB [Thomas Rawls](=) appears to be the clear No. 1 running back right now ahead of RB [Eddie Lacy](=), according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. Lacy worked exclusively with the second-team offense in practice Wednesday, Aug. 9. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is not reflected in current ADP, and would be a surprise after the Seahawks signed Lacy in the offseason. Perhaps it has to do with Lacy's recovery from ankle surgery, but that shouldn't be affecting him that much at this point since it happened in 2016. Rawls runs hotter than Lacy, and he might well hold onto this lead, with CJ Prosise also getting a lot of touches. Right now, Lacy should be avoided, Rawls looks like a value, and Prosise is a role player. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [OAK - WR Amari Cooper remains sidelined]() Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Michael Gehlken Oakland Raiders WR [Amari Cooper](=) (leg) is still hampered by a nagging left leg injury. He has missed six of the Raiders' last seven practices. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] For now, we should assume that this is a minor issue, but if it keeps Cooper out through the third preseason game, it will be a reason to move him down on your draft board. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NE - WR Brandin Cooks putting on a clinic](=) Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe New England Patriots WR [Brandin Cooks](=) has been impressive throughout the offseason, and he has put on 'a clinic' against the Jacksonville Jaguars during two days of joint practices at Gillette Stadium. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Cooks has a high enough weekly ceiling to justify his third round price tag, and if the Patriots use him more frequently on shorter passes, he might have volume to eliminate his low floor weeks. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [IND - QB Andrew Luck unlikely to open on PUP](=) Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Updating an ongoing story, Indianapolis Colts QB [Andrew Luck](=) (shoulder) is unlikely to open the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to general manager Chris Ballard. His Week 1 availability is still to be determined. Luck has progressed in his throwing program the last two weeks rebuilding his motion and strength. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The worry about Luck's shoulder is warranted and he probably should be dropping outside of the top 6-8 quarterbacks. That being said, he can still be elite by midseason, but you'll have to draft a second quarterback will a good matchup or three to open the season. TY Hilton and Donte Moncrief aren't helped by this either. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [TEN - WR Corey Davis still nursing hamstring injury]() Source: ESPN.com - Cameron Wolfe Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (hamstring) believes his hamstring is healing and remains focused on being ready for the regular-season opener, but he is still week-to-week for now. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Davis probably won't play in the preseason. At this point, the team will be trying to get him healthy for the season opener against the Raiders. He was an instant starter after missing a lot of the spring, so they shouldn't be reluctant to give him a big role right away. The drop in ADP coming could make Davis a great value in drafts. He was dominant in practices before his injury. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [CLE - Quarterback job QB Brock Osweiler's to lose?]( Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon Cleveland Browns QB [Brock Osweiler](=) will not only start the team's preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday, Aug. 10, but ESPN's Pat McManamon believes there is 'probably a 75-percent chance' Osweiler keeps the job if he leads the offense 'sufficiently' in that contest. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is probably about the lack of upside Cody Kessler offers and the team not wanting to rush DeShone Kizer more than Osweiler blowing them away. The team could also be trying to build a trade market for him. Either way, Osweiler doesn't help the outlook of any Browns offensive player. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [PHI - RB Wendell Smallwood solidifying roster spot]() Source: PhillyVoice.com - Jimmy Kempski Philadelphia Eagles RB [Wendell Smallwood](=) has run like 'a man possessed' in padded practices and 'really showed he belongs on the roster,' according to Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smallwood needs to be motivated to hang on the roster with rookie Donnel Pumphrey already impressing. He is only a deep waiver wire watch list player right now. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [NYJ - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins standing out]( Source: NJ Advance Media - Connor Hughes New York Jets TE [Austin Seferian-Jenkins](=) could be the team's No. 1 option in the passing game if he carry his strong play in training camp over to the regular season, according to NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] With the two game suspension, it's still not worth drafting Seferian-Jenkins in a typical league, but he'll be a good waiver wire pickup early if you aren't happy with your tight end. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [ATL - RB Devonta Freeman lands extension]() Source: NFL Network - Michael Silver Atlanta Falcons RB [Devonta Freeman](=) agreed to a five-year, $41.25 million contract Wednesday, Aug. 9, which makes him the highest-paid running back in the league. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Freeman won't be the highest paid back once Le'Veon Bell signs a long-term deal, but that could take years with the franchise tag rules and Bell's injury and suspension history. Freeman deserved every penny, but the presence of Tevin Coleman will keep him from joining the elite RB1 tier. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [NE - RB Dion Lewis, RB James White listed on first-team]( Source: Patriots.com New England Patriots RBs [Dion Lewis](=) and [James White](=) are ahead of [Rex Burkhead](=) and [Mike Gillislee](=) on the team's unofficial depth chart. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lewis was considered possibly in danger of losing his roster spot, but his explosiveness is reportedly back and he'll have a role in this backfield. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [DEN - AJ McCarron not a Broncos target]( Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron is not a trade target of the Denver Broncos, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That the Broncos have to answer these questions shows that their quarterback situation isn't settled. The answer is unlikely to come from outside of the roster, but the long-term answer might not be on the roster unless it is Mr. Irrelevant Chad Kelly, who won't be able to contribute until next year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [IND - WR Donte Moncrief returns]() Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer Indianapolis Colts WR [Donte Moncrief](=) (shoulder) returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 9. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This shoulder injury was minor and as long as Moncrief doesn't miss time in camp or preseason again, we shouldn't count it against him. However, if it recurs this summer or during the season, it could be a sign that it will limit him for most or all of the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [LAC - WR Keenan Allen back at practice]() Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams Los Angeles Chargers WR [Keenan Allen](=) (calf) participated in practice Tuesday, Aug. 8. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The calf issue was worrisome since Allen is coming back from ACL surgery, but this quick return indicates that it was really very minor and nothing that should change his outlook, assuming it doesn't recur. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [SF - TE George Kittle sits out Wednesday]( Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle (hamstring) was held out of practice Wednesday, Aug. 9, because of a tight hamstring. He is not expected to play in the preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs Friday, Aug. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Kittle was gaining a lot of momentum and possibly even earning a big role in the offense. That has slowed down with this injury, but his dynasty outlook is still bright for a fifth-round pick. Vance McDonald has the door open to lead the team's tight ends in targets if Kittle's hamstring injury lingers. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [SF - Josh Garnett to have surgery]( Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers OG Josh Garnett (knee) is scheduled to undergo knee surgery Thursday, Aug. 10. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team hopes Garnett will be available for Week 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Garnett is a better run blocker than pass blocker and the 49ers will need him against the stout Panthers front Week 1. If he's not able to go, that could hurt the Week 1 outlook of Carlos Hyde. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [NYJ - RB Bilal Powell, RB Matt Forte unlikely to play]() Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets RB [Bilal Powell](=) (neck) and RB [Matt Forte](=) (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 9, and are not expected to play in the preseason game against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 12. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Rookie Elijah McGuire will get a ton of work and chance to show what he has for the future, as Forte and Powell are at or past their peak and don't fit in the long term plans of a rebuilding team. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [PIT - Coach talking with Le'Veon Bell]( Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he has been in contact with RB Le'Veon Bell during his holdout but does not have an update on when Bell will report. Bell is working out in South Florida and may report to the team in late August. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] As long as Bell is in uniform for the season opener against the Browns, you shouldn't get worried about this. It is a potential reason to separate him and David Johnson for the #1 overall draft spot. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [PIT - Joshua Dobbs to start Friday]( Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Pittsburgh Steelers QB Joshua Dobbs will be the starting quarterback in the preseason game against the New York Giants Friday, Aug. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Dobbs could be the Steelers starter as early as next year if Ben Roethlisberger retires. We'll be watching his preseason performances very closely. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 20. [TB - RB Jeremy McNichols needs to study](=) Source: Tampa Bay Times - Greg Auman Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie RB Jeremy McNichols needs to 'get in his playbook,' according to head coach Dirk Koetter and running backs coach Tim Spencer. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McNichols is a playmaking receiving back, and with Doug Martin suspended for the first three games, he should make the team, but this is not the buzz you wanted to hear this early. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 21. [PHI - WR Jordan Matthews on the block?]() Source: PhillyVoice.com - Jimmy Kempski Philadelphia Eagles WR [Jordan Matthews](=) remains a candidate to be traded, in part due to the team's unexpected depth at receiver, according to Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Matthews certainly won't have the same weekly and season-long ceiling he has had in the past with the quality of receivers around him. If the Eagles know they won't re-sign him, a trade isn't a bad idea. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 22. [TB - CB Brent Grimes injured](=) Source: PewterReport.com Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Brent Grimes (leg) went down in practice Wednesday, Aug. 9, with a lower-body injury. He walked gingerly to a cart and was driven off the field. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It sounds like the injury was a laceration which is far from a worst-case scenario. Still he is a key performer on this rising defense and we will be watching this for updates to see if it will be a long-term problem. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 23. [LAC - WR Mike Williams resumes running](=) Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams Los Angeles Chargers WR [Mike Williams](=) (back) has resumed running on grass, according to head coach Anthony Lynn. The team still hopes Williams can return during the preseason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Williams still needs at least a few weeks before he's in game shape, and will likely be brought along slowly. There is also no guaranteed that this back issue won't be a problem again during the season. He's only worth a redraft pick in very deep bench leagues right now. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 24. [MIN - RB Latavius Murray not traveling]( Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson Minnesota Vikings WR [Latavius Murray](=) (ankle) was limited during practice Tuesday, Aug. 8, and said he is not traveling with the team for their preseason game Thursday, Aug. 10. He said he is not sure if he will play in the second preseason game but knows he will be ready for the start of the regular season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] At least he is back on the field in some fashion. Dalvin Cook is taking control of this backfield. Murray might be relegated to a short-yardage and game finisher role at this rate. He is falling well into the second half of drafts now.
