[IND - Still no timetable for QB Andrew Luck]( Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells Indianapolis Colts QB [Andrew Luck](=) (shoulder) remains without a timeline to begin practicing, according to head coach Chuck Pagano. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Nothing like a lack of clarity, eh? We can't see Luck playing or practicing much at all during the preseason. Luck may miss the summer but get thrust into the starting lineup for Week 1 of the regular season. He's a top-5 fantasy quarterback when healthy. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CIN - RB Jeremy Hill listed as starter](=) Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Jim Owczarski Cincinnati Bengals RB [Jeremy Hill](=) is listed with the first-team offense on the Bengals' initial depth chart. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fantasy owners are looking to see how things shake out in Cincinnati when it comes to their RB position. Hill is the starter for now, but rookie Joe Mixon has an explosive skill set and could win the job. Oh yeah, don't forget about Gio Bernard either. Right now, Hill and Bernard are going off the board back-to-back at RB52/RB53 (12.11) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CIN - RB Joe Mixon listed with third-team](=) Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Jim Owczarski Cincinnati Bengals rookie RB Joe Mixon is listed with the third-team offense on the Bengals' initial depth chart. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The rookie has to earn his spot. We imagine that by the time the regular season rolls around, Mixon will be higher in the pecking order. In fact, he should be the starter for Week 1 and he's got RB1 upside as the lead back for the Bengals. Mixon is currently RB17 (4.03) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [KC - RB Kareem Hunt seeing more time with first-team]() Source: ArrowheadPride.com - Pete Sweeney Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt is seeing increased work with the first-team as time goes on and could potentially work himself into the starting running back this preseason, according to ArrowheadPride.com's Pete Sweeney. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hunt might be worth more than Spencer Ware if he starts, but Ware isn't going away and this will remain a committee in some shape or form no matter who takes the first touch. Hunt could be a value at his current ADP, but he won't be a season changer unless Ware gets hurt. Ware could be a value at his current ADP, but only if Hunt's momentum slows down. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [CAR - QB Cam Newton close to returning]( Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Carolina Panthers QB [Cam Newton](=) (shoulder) appears to be 'over the hump' in his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Newton is feeling better and is expected to practice soon. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This has been the buzz generating about Newton in recent days. We should see him play -- although expect him to be limited -- at some point in the preseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [CIN - Marvin Lewis taking break](=) Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr. Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis (undisclosed) will be taking a break from his coaching duties to focus on a minor health issue, according to a statement released by the Bengals. Lewis could return as soon as Tuesday, Aug. 8, or later this week. Special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons will lead the team while Lewis is absent. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It sounds like a minor health issue, and the Bengals should be able to operate smoothly while Lewis gets back to full strength. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [CLE - RB Duke Johnson impressing with versatility]() Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich Cleveland Browns RB [Duke Johnson](=) 'catches as well as any receiver on the team,' according to receivers coach Al Saunders, who went on to compare to Johnson to a queen on a chessboard because he is so versatile. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Johnson's game is that of a receiving back. He might not be able to hold up under a featured back's workload, but Johnson can be effectively used as a part-time player. While we're expecting starter Isaiah Crowell to post career-best numbers as a rusher, Johnson could catch 55-60 passes this year as the primary receiver out of the backfield. That makes him an RB4 with flex appeal in deeper leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [NE - TE Dwayne Allen seeing a ton of red zone work]( Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin New England Patriots TE [Dwayne Allen](=) has been the recipient of 'a ton of targets in the red zone' during training camp, according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Allen has been a red zone monster in the past - when he is able to stay on the field. It's hard to see him being more prominent than Rob Gronkowski, but if Gronkowski goes down, Allen will be an insta-pickup, and you could do worse than Allen as a desperation tight end play any week you need one. He's going undrafted in most leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [SF - RB Carlos Hyde a 'beast' in training camp]( Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport San Francisco 49ers RB [Carlos Hyde](=) reportedly came into training camp in the best shape of his life, has been a 'beast' in practice and is a player generating a ton of optimism in training camp as someone they view as the 'bell-cow of their offense,' according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hyde's ADP has fallen two rounds, but it looks like that was a premature reaction and anticipation of Kyle Shanahan trying to install one of "his guys" in the backfield. Hyde has responded the messages via the media that the team is not sold on him, and he could be one of the biggest values at running back this year if he falls to the fifth round. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. MIA - RB Jay Ajayi remains in protocol Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson Miami Dolphins RB [Jay Ajayi](=) (concussion) is on the field Tuesday, Aug. 8, but he remains in the concussion protocol. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That he's on the field is a good sign that his recovery is going well and this won't be an issue by the time the season opener rolls around. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [IND - WR Donte Moncrief still out]( Source: The Herald Bulletin - George Bremer Indianapolis Colts WR [Donte Moncrief](=) (shoulder) remains out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 8. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If this issue stretches out over multiple weeks and affects Moncrief's ability to play in the third preseason game, it will be time to get worried. Chester Rogers has the lead for the #3 wide receiver job right now. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [NYJ - WR Robby Anderson having rough start to camp]( Source: NJ Advance Media - Connor Hughes New York Jets WR [Robby Anderson](=) is out to a 'rough start' in training camp, according to Connor Hughes of NJ.com, who notes that the wide receiver is 'struggling to beat the press' and has 'dropped several easy completions.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This news coming when Anderson needs to elevate his game to fill the void left by Quincy Enunwa. If Anderson is not in top form come Week 1, this offense might have trouble generating first downs. The Jets offense is looking like fantasy kryptonite this year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [NO - WR Ted Ginn listed as No. 2 WR on depth chart](=) Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett New Orleans Saints WR [Ted Ginn](=) Jr. is listed as the No. 2 wide receiver on the team's first unofficial depth chart that was just released. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It appears that Willie Snead will be the #3, and perhaps Snead and Ginn's ADP should be closer, as Snead routinely goes 3-4 rounds (if not more) ahead of Ginn. Ginn will have a boom/bust scoring profile, but with his deep speed and Drew Brees ability as a quarterback, the booms will be big. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [TEN - QB Marcus Mariota will play Saturday](=) Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans QB [Marcus Mariota](=) (leg) will play in the preseason game against the New York Jets Saturday, Aug. 12. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is a terrific sign that everything went as planned and is on schedule in Mariota's recovery from a season-ending leg injury last year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [TEN - RB DeMarco Murray won't play this week](=) Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans RB [DeMarco Murray](=) (hamstring) will not play in the Titans' first preseason game this week, according to head coach Mike Mularkey. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Murray has been on the sidelines with this hamstring injury for about a week. Head coach Mike Mularkey believes that Murray is 'close' to a return, but the team is wisely going to give him the first preseason game off. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [NYJ - WR Jalin Marshall listed as No. 2 WR]() Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets WR [Jalin Marshall](=) is listed as the No. 2 wide receiver on the Jets' initial depth chart. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Marshall is suspended the first four games of the year for violating the league's PED policy. During his absence, guys like rookie ArDarius Stewart and former Clemson WR Charone Peake will compete for that no2 job opposite of Robby Anderson. No matter who wins the spot, we can't imagine the no2 WR with the Jets having a tremendous amount of fantasy value. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [PHI - WR Jordan Matthews won't have reduced role]() Source: CSNPhilly.com - Reuben Frank Philadelphia Eagles WR [Jordan Matthews](=) won't have a reduced role this year, according to head coach Doug Pederson. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Matthews still has a limited ceiling with Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith giving the team better outside wide receivers than they had last year, but the buzz of Nelson Agholor cutting into his work appears to be unwarranted. Matthews is maybe a WR3 in PPR, and certainly good bye/injury/emergency depth. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [BUF - WR Sammy Watkins to play a quarter]() Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci Buffalo Bills WR [Sammy Watkins](=) (ankle) will play about a quarter in the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 10, according to head coach Sean McDermott. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] After Watkins' injury scare, this is great news. The team isn't going to make the mistake of taking it too slow and being surprised when Watkins' foot doesn't respond well in the season opener. That should help clarify the minds of fantasy drafters wondering whether to take Watkins in the third round. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [MIN - WR Laquon Treadwell unable to return]( Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson Minnesota Vikings WR [Laquon Treadwell](=) (leg) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 7, and has missed five straight practices. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Treadwell is falling while Michael Floyd is rising in the wake of some excellent practices. While there was momentum building for Treadwell earlier in camp, since his fight and injury, he is fading. Floyd might be re-capturing the #3 job once his four-game suspension is over. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 20. [DEN - Denver RBs taking it easy this week]() Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala Denver Broncos RB [C.J. Anderson](=) will play no more than three series, while RB [Jamaal Charles](=) will not play at all in the team's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Anderson will get a drive or two against the Bears on Thursday night. No matter who is the quarterback, we expect the Broncos to surprise some with how much they want to run the ball in 2017. We all know the story with Anderson...if healthy, he's got the skill set to be a top-15 fantasy back. Having never played a full 16-game season in his pro career, fantasy owners already know a backup plan must be in place if Anderson is their RB2. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 21. [WAS - Washington to sit trio for preseason opener]( Source: Redskins.com Washington Redskins WR [Jamison Crowder](=) (hamstring), TE [Jordan Reed](=) (toe) and WR [Josh Doctson](=) (hamstring) will not suit up for the team's preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Washington's pass-catchers are quite banged up right now. There's no need to rush these guys onto the field when they're not a full strength in the preseason. If Reed is healthy, he can be a top-5 tight end. If Crowder is healthy, he could catch 100 passes in 2017 as a favorite target of Kirk Cousins. And then there's Josh Doctson....he could have 50 catches or so as a breakout candidate this year...if healthy. Washington will wisely be cautious here. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 22. [CHI - Kyle Long not a lock for Week 1]( Source: Chicago Tribune - Dan Wiederer Chicago Bears OG Kyle Long (ankle) still does not have a timetable as to when he will return to full strength, and the team has made no promises he will be cleared to play in Week 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Long is one of the best guards in the league, so this isn't trivial. Long did return to be a full go on ten team drill snaps in practice today, so it's probably just a case of the team being cautious about what they promise. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 23. [NYJ - WR ArDarius Stewart most likely rookie to deliver?]() Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets WR ArDarius Stewart is viewed by the organization as the rookie receiver most likely to contribute in the wake of [Quincy Enunwa](=)'s season-ending neck injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's still a stretch to see Stewart providing consistent fantasy value with the worst offense in the NFL around him. Dynasty leaguers will enjoy the long look we get at Stewart, but redraft prospects are dim for any Jet passcatcher this year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 24. [PIT - RB Fitzgerald Toussaint atop depth chart]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Pittsburgh Steelers RB [Fitzgerald Toussaint](=) is listed as the first-team running back with RB Le'Veon Bell not in camp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] James Conner was not listed because he is nursing a shoulder injury. If Conner can get healthy soon, he should be able to push Toussaint to be the backup to Bell, a very valuable fantasy spot. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 25. [SEA - RB Chris Carson working with second-team](=) Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson was listed ahead of RB [Alex Collins](=) on the second-team offense depth chart Monday, Aug. 7. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Carson has been one of the stories of camp, but Collins has also dropped weight and improved as a passcatcher. Unless the Seahawks carry five backs, look for one of Collins or Carson to be claimed after final cuts. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 26. [LAR - WR Cooper Kupp making strong impression]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Curtis Crabtree Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp has impressed his coaching staff, according to head coach Sean McVay, who has already listed the rookie wideout as a starter in the team's preliminary depth chart. 'He always has a plan at the line of scrimmage, understands coverages and route concepts, and I think that's what enables him to be such a productive player and very advanced for a rookie,' McVay said. 'He's one of the more mature rookies that I've ever been around and we're expecting some good things from him moving forward.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Kupp could lead the team in receptions this year, but that might only mean 60-70 receptions. He is getting onto our late-round PPR radar. From a dynasty perspective, this is exactly the kind of buzz you want to see to indicate long-term success in the cards for Kupp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 27. [DAL - OLB Jaylon Smith will play in preseason]( Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr. Dallas Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith (knee) will play this preseason, according to head coach Jason Garrett, but no decision has been made as to whether or not he will play this week. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It will be good to see Smith back on the football field. He was likely to be a top-5 pick in the 2016 NFL draft before a devastating knee injury in Notre Dame's bowl game. Smith fell to the Cowboys as a project player in the second round of the draft last year. He missed his entire rookie season due to this injury but is now set to return to the field.
