WAS: Terry McLaurin injury update [Source: Commanders.com]( Updating a previous report, Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin (toe) suffered a toe injury during the preseason game Monday, Aug. 21, and has been ruled out. Our view: McLaurin has been diagnosed with turf toe and his MRI has confirmed that it is a minor injury, characterized more as "day-to-day". There is optimism that he'll be available to play Week 1, although this is the kind of injury that can recur during the season. McLaurin already was being drafted near his ceiling in a crowded passing game that will depend on a first-time starter who fell to the fifth round of last year's draft and questionable offensive line. This makes it easier to pass on McLaurin and adds another path to ceiling value for Jahan Dotson. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. IND: Jonathan Taylor allowed to seek trade [Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter]() Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor has received permission to seek a trade, according to sources. Our view: The Colts are still insisting on a first-round pick in return, so if they stick to that, we are unlikely to get a deal. If this is a sign instead that the relationship is broken beyond repair, then a team could swoop in an offer a second-day pick to get a deal done and worry about Taylor's contract status next year. A trade would be good for Taylor's value, and it would make fifth-round pick Evan Hull and recent signing Kenyan Drake the top healthy backs on the roster, with Deon Jackson, Jake Funk, and Jason Huntley also trying to win a roster spot. Zack Moss is out with a broken forearm, but could be ready early in the season. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. WAS: Sam Howell shines [Source: ESPN - NFL Box Score](=) Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell completed 19-of-25 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns in the preseason Week 2 game on Monday, Aug. 21. Our view: The team couldn't have asked for much more from their likely Week 1 starter. Howell has some rushing upside and a talented receiver corps, so he could be a viable QB2/Superflex and bye/injury/emergency depth in 1QB leagues. He'll open wit the toothless Cardinals defense and could get off to a nice start in Week 1. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. MIA: Jonathan Taylor may be option for MIA [Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson]( Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor is expected to receive some trade interest from the Miami Dolphins, according to a source. Our view: The Dolphins were the team most connected to Dalvin Cook before the Jets got in on him, so this makes sense. They were fine last year with a revolving door of Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson (who was acquired during the season), and the team drafted De'Von Achane in the third round. Achane suffered a shoulder injury in the last preseason game, and the team could be rethinking their plan with the unexpected availability of a powerful runner that also has breakaway speed. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. DAL: Ronald Jones may miss another game [Source: The Dallas Morning News - Michael Gehlken]( Dallas Cowboys RB Ronald Jones (groin) is considered questionable for the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 26, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Jones has missed all of the preseason games because of a groin injury. Our view: Any hope of a bounceback summer from Jones with a wide open battle for the RB2 job in Dallas has evaporated with his two-game suspension and now this injury. It looks like Rico Dowdle and sixth-round pick/preseason sensation Deuce Vaughn will be the top backs behind Tony Pollard to begin the season. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. NYJ: Duane Brown likely to return soon [Source: The Athletic - Dianna Russini]() New York Jets OT Duane Brown (shoulder) is undergoing imaging tests to check out the progress of his injured shoulder Monday, Aug. 21. If he is cleared after those tests, the expectation is that he will be removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 22. Our view: Mekhi Becton has been a pleasant surprise at right tackle and will start in the final preseason game, so if they can keep Becton healthy and get Brown back, that will be a big step towards giving Aaron Rodgers the offensive line play he needs to be successful in his first year at the Jets starters. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. TB: Rodrigo Blankenship cut [Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates]( Tampa Bay Buccaneers PK Rodrigo Blankenship was waived Monday, Aug. 21. Our view: Another kicker battle has been decided, at least for now. Chase McLaughlin has been good enough in camp and the preseason to at least deserve to kick Week 1 and see if he can hold down the job throughout the season. Blankenship missed two kicks in last week's preseason game, sealing his fate. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. CAR: Eddy Pineiro may kick Friday [Source: NFL.com](=) Carolina Panthers PK Eddy Pineiro (groin) should be ready for the start of the regular season and could kick short field goal tries during the preseason game Friday, Aug. 25, according to head coach Frank Reich. Our view: It sounds like there is no reason to think Pineiro will miss Week 1 against the Falcons. Journeyman Matthew Wright is in Carolina's camp as an insurance policy in case Pineiro experiences problems when he tests his groin injury. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. BUF: Buffalo inks two to one-year pacts [Source: Buffalo Bills PR](=) Free-agent RB Ty Johnson (Jets) and OT Garrett McGhin (XFL) officially signed one-year contracts with the Buffalo Bills on Monday, Aug. 21. Financial terms of the deals were not immediately disclosed. DE Shane Ray (hamstring) and OT Tommy Doyle (knee) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list to make room for them on the roster. Our view: Damien Harris has been missing practice due to knee soreness. It's not clear if the signing of Johnson is related. Johnson is an experienced back, so he has a chance to make the roster if Harris isn't going to be available early in the season. Latavius Murray's speculative value could also get a bump if this signing is a bad sign re: Harris's knee. [Back to Top](#top) [] 10. CIN: Chidobe Awuzie takes part in drills [Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson]() Cincinnati Bengals CB Chidobe Awuzie (knee) participated in some team drills during practice Monday, Aug. 21, but said he will not rush back. Our view: Awuzie is a key part of the secondary. The team is hoping he'll be back for the season opener against the Browns after tearing an ACL last October. If Awuzie is ready for Week 1, he could see a lot of Amari Cooper. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. DET: Mohamed Ibrahim let go [Source: NFLCommunications.com]() Detroit Lions RB Mohamed Ibrahim (undisclosed) was waived with an injury designation Monday, Aug. 21. The Lions signed free-agent S Scott Nelson (Steelers) to replace him on the roster. Our view: Ibrahim was considered a priority undrafted free agent, and the Lions gave him $100,000 guaranteed - around what seventh-round picks get. He was clearly behind Craig Reynolds and probably not going to make the final roster in any event. He has cleared waivers and reverted to injured reserve, so he could have a chance to make the team again next year. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks.
