It's a chill Sunday as I visit my sweet aunt in Lexington. She's awesome. We've got a fun new feature for you today that I think is actually a good picture of what Footballguys is all about. Our Gary Davenport came up with the idea of trying to run down all the IDP players who have the "green dot" on the helmet and are in communication with the coordinator by radio. We're not sure how much effect it actually has, but as we were talking about it, we looked for a definitive list and commentary on it and couldn't find anything. So we created our own. That's kind of how we started Footballguys some 23 years ago when I couldn't find the fantasy football tools and information to help me win. So we created for ourselves what I wanted. Same idea. Have a great weekend. Let's Go. J PS. These email updates are great, but if you're serious about winning more at Fantasy Football, a [Footballguys Premium Subscription](=) is the edge you need. CAR: Chuba Hubbard injures ankle [Source: Charlotte Observer - Mike Kaye](=) Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (ankle) suffered an ankle injury during the preseason game against the New York Giants Friday, Aug. 18, according to head coach Frank Reich. Our view: We'll know more about the severity of this ankle injury in the near future. Hubbard is competing with Miles Sanders in what should be an RBBC for the Panthers in 2023. If Hubbard has to miss time, a guy like Raheem Blackshear could get more looks. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. NE: Malik Cunningham to be Mr. Versatile? [Source: ESPN.com - Mike Reiss](=) New England Patriots WR Malik Cunningham has 'generated early momentum to be a (Taysom) Hill-type option, even working as a gunner on the punt coverage team,' according to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss. After switching from quarterback to full-time wide receiver in the spring, Cunningham finished 3-for-4 for 19 yards and ran the ball five times for 34 yards in the team's preseason opener and his NFL debut. Our view: Cunningham is perfect for the Patriots as a gadget player. A college quarterback, Cunningham's best bet to make it in the pros is as a wide receiver. The Patriots have him playing receiver, but that doesn't mean he can't get some snaps in the backfield. He's got speed, and Cunningham can make defenders miss in the open field. Keep an eye on his progress in deep dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. ATL: Cordarrelle Patterson to miss some time [Source: 11Alive News - Maria Martin]() Atlanta Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson (undisclosed) is expected to be sidelined for a 'couple of weeks' with an undisclosed soft-tissue injury, according to head coach Arthur Smith on Friday, Aug. 18. Our view: That means Patterson will miss the rest of the preseason. We'll know more about his Week 1 availability when the regular season is closer. If Patterson needs to miss time, Bijon Robinson and Tyler Allgeier could get more targets out of the backfield. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. HOU: Larry Rountree joins Houston [Source: HoustonTexans.com]( Free-agent RB Larry Rountree (Chargers) signed with the Houston Texans Friday, Aug. 18. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived OG Keaton Sutherland. Our view: Rountree's chances of making the 53-man roster are thin. However, if he impresses with the Texans behind their top-2 backs (Dameon Pierce, Devin Singletary), then perhaps he could wind up on their practice squad. Rountree will compete with guys like Mike Boone and Dare Ogunbuwale to establish the depth chart. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. WAS: Logan Thomas limited Saturday [Source: The Washington Post - Nicki Jhabvala]( Washington Commanders TE Logan Thomas (calf) did some jogging and individual work with a trainer on a side field during practice Saturday, Aug. 19. Our view: Thomas has talent, and we're excited about the Commanders' offense under new OC Eric Bieniemy. However, Thomas is banged up often and certainly injury prone. Fantasy GMs know what to expect from him; if Thomas is healthy, he can push for TE1 numbers. However, the window of that level of production from him may be limited. Thomas is a low-end TE2 due to his injury risk. Expect reserves John Bates and Cole Turner to get plenty of action this year. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. NYG: Jalin Hyatt finds the end zone [Source: ESPN.com](=) New York Giants WR Jalin Hyatt caught four of his five targets for 35 yards and a touchdown in a 21-19 preseason win over the Carolina Panthers Friday, Aug. 18. Our view: The Giants have a talented group of wide receivers, and that room is going to be jam-packed when everyone is healthy. Hyatt, a third-round pick (2023 Tennessee) has all the tools to be a star in this league. He's been a standout player in training camp, and now Hyatt could be making a role for himself with the offense in the regular season. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. TEN: Will Levis out for preseason Week 2 [Source: 102.5 FM The Game - Caroline Fenton]() Tennessee Titans QB Will Levis (lower body) won't play in the preseason Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings, per source on Saturday, Aug. 19. Our view: The rookie second-round pick is competing in camp with Malik Willis for the backup job to starting QB Ryan Tannehill. Levis could be the quarterback of the future for the Titans, and if Tannehill struggles or gets banged up this season there's a chance we could see the rookie play. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. MIN: Jordan Ta'amu inks deal with Minnesota [Source: XFL.com]( Free-agent QB Jordan Ta'amu (XFL) signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, Aug. 18. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. Our view: Nick Mullens and rookie Jaren Hall are competing behind starting QB Kirk Cousins. Now, Ta'amu is going to work into the mix. Ta'amu has played in multiple versions of the XFL (remember him making plays for the Battlehawks in 2020?), the USFL, and he's bounced around in the NFL. He's a smart and coachable quarterback with athleticism. In crazy deep dynasty formats, we'll keep an eye on him. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. NYG: Daniel Jones sharp in first appearance [Source: ESPN.com](=) New York Giants QB Daniel Jones completed eight of his nine pass attempts for 69 yards and a touchdown in a 21-19 preseason win over the Carolina Panthers Friday, Aug. 18. Our view: What can Jones do for an encore? He flourished last year under HC Brian Daboll (who we love), and now Jones needs to show he can do even more. This was a good start to his preseason, and Fantasy GMs are looking at Jones as a low-end QB1 with upside in the QB7-14 range. [Back to Top](#top) [] 10. CIN: Andrei Iosivas continues busy preseason [Source: ESPN.com](=) Cincinnati Bengals WR Andrei Iosivas caught five of his 10 targets for 44 yards in a 13-13 tie against the Atlanta Falcons in the preseason Friday, Aug. 18, and Iosivas has nine catches on 20 targets through two preseason contests. Our view: According to our very own Cecil Lammey, Iosivas was impressive earlier this year during the week of practice for the Senior Bowl. We've had him on our dynasty radar since then. Iosivas is making a positive impression in his battle with guys like Trent Taylor, Charlie Jones, and Trenton Irwin for a reserve spot on the stacked Bengals' depth chart. We like the sixth-round pick (2023) out of Princeton in dynasty formats, especially if he continues to impress in such a high-powered system. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks.
