TB: Russell Gage out for season [Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler](=) Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Russell Gage Jr. (knee) is expected to miss the 2023 season with an unspecified knee injury suffered at practice, per source on Wednesday, Aug. 16. Our view: The Bucs offense is going to be rough and this certainly won't help, as the team didn't have a clear WR4 behind Gage. Sixth-round pick Trey Palmer, 2022 UDFA Deven Thompkins, 2023 UDFA Rakim Jarrett, and former Seahawk David Moore are competing for more playing time in the wake of this injury. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. TEN: Treylon Burks carted off [Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter]() Tennessee Titans WR Treylon Burks (leg) was carted off from practice on Wednesday, Aug. 16, with an apparent leg injury. The exact area and severity is unknown. Our view: Ian Rapoport reported later Wednesday, "WR Treylon Burks suffered an LCL sprain during practice today, sources say after the MRI. This is good news, as Burks should only miss a few weeks. A scare, but a solid result considering." While it might result in more targets for DeAndre Hopkins, any Burks absence would be a blow to an offense that is already going to be playing with one of the worst offensive lines in the league. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. DET: Amon-Ra St. Brown banged up [Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett]( Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (leg) suffered an injury to his lower right leg in practice Wednesday, Aug. 16, on the first play of 7-on-7s. He's off to the side with trainers. Our view: This may not be a big deal, but keep an eye on this leading up to your draft(s). St. Brown is a fantasy darling, and he's going to once again be heavily involved in what the Lions do through the air. Fantasy GMs like him near the turn between the first and second round. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. DET: Jameson Williams injures hamstring [Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett]( Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams (hamstring) left practice Wednesday, Aug. 16, grabbing his right hamstring. Our view: Williams has had an up and down camp and the team got him a lot of reps in the first preseason game. His big play ability and first-round pedigree combined with the efficiency of this Lions offense made him a somewhat compelling pick if benches in your league are long enough to wait out his six-game suspension to begin the season, but if this injury is severe, we could remove him from that list. If Williams missed significant practice time, that could also mean that he'll get off to a slow start when he does return. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. SF: Brock Purdy's job is safe [Source: MMQB - Albert Breer]( San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy 'would have to melt in practice' to lose the starting job, head coach Kyle Shanahan said, according to MMQB's Albert Breer on Monday, Aug. 14. Our view: It's a ridiculous notion to think that Purdy's job would not be safe. Shanahan does love veteran Sam Darnold, but he's there as veteran insurance. Former no.3 overall pick Trey Lance has physical skill but his game is still quite raw. It's Purdy all the way, and from a fantasy perspective, we like him as a low-end QB2. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. GB: Jordan Love has teammate's praise [Source: NFL.com - Bobby Kownack]( Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love's baseline is way higher than that of a first-year starter, according to OT David Bakhtiari. 'He's had three years to understand the math of the offense, which is very fortunate for any first-round quarterback to get to watch and see how a first-ballot Hall of Famer and generational talent and a guy who borderline changed the quarterback position and how it's played,' Bakhtiari said. 'And even the mechanics of even throwing the football. You're able to see that for three years and then now coming in, so yeah, his baseline for me is way higher.' Our view: Love is taking over as the starter this year with Aaron Rodgers going to the Jets. He's had plenty of time to learn the system plus the Packers will use a strong ground game to help him out this year. He's a low-end QB2 for Fantasy GMs this year, but the upside is there for him to eventually be more if he can play up to his first-round potential. On the downside, the team seems to be taking a very cautious approach with him which seems unusual and a bit worrisome for a player with this much time in the system. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. BAL: Rashod Bateman sitting [Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley]( Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman (foot) remains out of practice Wednesday, Aug. 16. Our view: It will be news when Bateman practices. Just a week ago, Bateman (foot) was activated off the active/physically unable to perform list. If healthy, he's working into the mix with Odell Beckham Jr and rookie first-round pick Zay Flowers. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. DEN: PK Elliott Fry waived [Source: Around The NFL]() Denver Broncos PK Elliott Fry (undisclosed) was waived with an injury designation Tuesday, Aug. 15. Free-agent LS Jack Landherr IV signed an undisclosed contract to replace him on the roster. Our view: Brett Maher missed a kick in the first preseason game, but the team trusts him more than Fry at least. This is far from an assurance that Maher will be the Broncos Week 1 kicker, as they could easily pick up a veteran like Robbie Gould or a loser of another kicker battle if Maher doesn't improve his performance in the next two games. [Back to Top](#top) 📉 2023 Fantasy Rankings Fallers Dave Kluge and Alfredo Brown analyze 6 players who are falling DOWN their fantasy rankings. [Watch On YouTube 👉]( [] 9. NO: Great news for Kendre Miller [Source: WWL Radio - Jeff Nowak]( New Orleans Saints RB Kendre Miller (knee) will travel with the team to Los Angeles for joint practices and will do his rehab there, and 'there's a chance' he plays in preseason Week 2, head coach Dennis Allen said on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Our view: This is better than expected news after it was revealed earlier this week that Miller wouldn't need surgery. Darrel Williams was also signed earlier this week and could play a role in Week 1 if he makes the team. Alvin Kamara will return from his suspension in Week 4 and then this backfield should have all hands on deck - including sometimes short yardage quarterback Taysom Hill. [Back to Top](#top) [] 10. PHI: Haason Reddick out for a bit [Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus](=) Philadelphia Eagles LB Haason Reddick (thumb) will likely miss some practice time with a thumb injury but is not expected to be sidelined for any regular season action, according to ESPN.com's Tim McManus. Our view: This is good news for the Eagles as Reddick was one of the keys to the defense getting to a new level last year. Philadelphia draws New England Week 1 and it sounds like Mac Jones and company won't have the good luck of dodging Reddick. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. LVR: Davante Adams returns to practice [Source: RaidersWire - Levi Damien]( Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams (leg) returned to practice on Wednesday, Aug. 16. Our view: Adams is back in action, and Fantasy GMs are curious about what things are going to look like for the Raiders' passing game this year. With QB Jimmy Garoppolo force-feeding him the ball, Adams should be able to produce up to his ADP (early second-round pick in 12-team PPR leagues). [Back to Top](#top) [] 12. MIA: Christian Wilkins staging hold-in [Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra]( Miami Dolphins DT Christian Wilkins is staging a hold-in while he seeks a new contract. He is doing individual drills but not participating in team drills as he's set to make $10.753 million on his fifth-year option. Our view: Wilkins has been a hit since the Dolphins took him with the 13th pick in 2019. Mike McDaniel confirmed that there are ongoing negotiations, but that when Wilkins practices again is up to him. The defensive tackle market has been reset this offseason With Daron Payne, Jeffery Simmons, Dexter Lawrence and Quinnen Williams all getting new deals worth $22.5 million a year or more. [Back to Top](#top) [] 13. ATL: Cordarrelle Patterson to miss time [Source: AtlantaFalcons - Tori McElhaney](=) Atlanta Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson (undisclosed) is expected to miss a few weeks with an unspecified soft-tissue injury and his status for Week 1 remains unclear, head coach Arthur Smith said on Wednesday, Aug. 16. Our view: Patterson isn't going to play a big part in the backfield, but we know he can play and it's possible that he could play a bigger part in the passing game and have unexpected value in PPR leagues. Unfortunately, with this injury, he is only worth monitoring on our early season waiver wire watch list. [Back to Top](#top) [] 14. BAL: Marlon Humphrey having foot surgery [Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley]( Updating an earlier report, Baltimore Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey (foot) will miss an undetermined amount of time due to foot surgery. Our view: Humphrey has been one of the few constants in a Ravens cornerback group that has gone from one of the best in the league into a question in recent years. He will miss at least a month, but the hope is that he'll only miss two games, but that means that C.J. Stroud will dodge Humphrey in his regular season debut and Joe Burrow's job will get easier in Week 2. [Back to Top](#top) [] 15. NYJ: Alijah Vera-Tucker day-to-day [Source: NFL.com]() New York Jets OL Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle) is considered day-to-day with an ankle injury, per head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Our view: It's a minor injury, but underscores the fragile state of the Jets offensive line as they enter the Aaron Rodgers era. The idea of Vera-Tucker being moved to tackle if Mekhi Becton and Duane Brown can't stay healthy has been floated, and he is their best offensive lineman, so they can't afford for him to miss any time. [Back to Top](#top) [] 16. SEA: Jordyn Brooks cleared to return [Source: MLB.com]() Seattle Seahawks LB Jordyn Brooks (knee) was activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 15. Our view: Brooks tore his ACL on January 1, so this is a remarkably fast return to the field. Whether he can avoid a setback and how effective he'll be if he can play Week 1 is another question, but he comes with a big discount in IDP leagues for a player who was an elite producer before his injury.
