It's a big day at Footballguys as our Premium Subscribers Contest is live. Check it out and I hope you win. Plus more awesome content. But as I said yesterday, I'm thinking about some things besides football today. I'd like to lift up the many folks affected by the devasting [wildfires in Maui, Hawaii](=). Lots of people know Maui as a beautiful tourist destination. I have a different perspective as I had family that lived there up till 2022 and I visited often. While the resorts are luxurious, the vast majority of Maui residents are regular folks. And the devastation for them is stunning. If you know me, you know I'm a fan of Food Banks as they're often a great way to get help directly to people in need. So here's what we're doing. We are donating 20% of every new [Footballguys Premium Subscription](=) sold Sunday 8/13 and Monday 8/14 to [the Maui Foodbank](=). It's a small thing. But it'll help. If you buy a [Premium Subscription](=) Sunday or Monday, know you're helping people in need. Mahalo. (That's how folks in Hawaii say "thank you".) Peace and Grace to y'all. J What's New At Footballguys - [Footballguys Premium Subscriber Contest Is Live!](=) - One of the many benefits of a [Footballguys Premium Subscription](=) is every person gets an entry into the [Footballguys Premium Subscriber Contest](=). This year, we're putting $35,000 in cash into the prize pool. First prize is $10,000 cash plus $5,000 Donation in your name to a Food Bank in the city of your choice. There's no additional cost to entry once you've purchased a Premium Subscription. Many people say it's one of the best things we do at Footballguys. I don't disagree. It's a "set it and forget it" type contest where you build your lineup and then let it play out all season long. - [Mid-Priced Targets for Salary Cap Leagues]() - Finding mid-priced targets at all positions in salary cap drafts. - [Building A Balanced Roster In Best Ball Drafts]() - Check out this free snippet from the Footballguys Best Ball Guide, a comprehensive guide to the format for new users and seasoned vets. - [Dynasty, in Theory: Short-Term Pain for Long-Term Gain]() - A simple trick to increase the value of your roster over time. - [Deep Dynasty Stashes: Demario Douglas]() - Our Jeff Bell continues his series, looking at deep dynasty win-later acquisitions. - [Why Jaelen Phillips will Rebound in 2023]( - In this week's IDP rebound, we dive into Dolphins defensive end Jaelen Phillips Inside This Issue [] - [DAL: Deuce Vaughn shines in debut](#article-1) - [CAR: Cameron Erving banged up](#article-2) - [BAL: Isaiah Likely exits early](#article-3) - [JAX: Solid debut for Tank Bigsby](#article-4) - [MIA: Cam Smith dealing with injury](#article-5) - [CAR: Miles Sanders held out of preseason opener](#article-6) [Support Maui](=) [] 1. DAL: Deuce Vaughn shines in debut [Source: ESPN.com](=) Dallas Cowboys RB Deuce Vaughn rushed eight times for 50 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for six yards in a 28-23 preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday, Aug. 12. Our view: Vaughn's suddenness and low center of gravity made him hard to corral. The Cowboys #2 job is wide open with Malik Davis, Rico Dowdle, and Ronald Jones (who has to serve a two-game suspension to begin the season) all in the running. Vaughn could seize the job if he keeps showing out like this, and he is probably demanding at least a touch or two a game to keep defenses off balance in any event. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. CAR: Cameron Erving banged up [Source: ESPN.com](=) Carolina Panthers OT Cameron Erving (knee, ankle) exited the preseason game against the New York Jets with an injury to his right knee and ankle Saturday, Aug. 12. Our view: Erving is the Panthers swing tackle, so this isn't a crucial injury and there's no indication that the injury is serious, but Erving was also outspoken as one of the veteran leaders about the line's performance, including his own. He said "Top to bottom, it doesn't matter if it was preseason, regular season, or offseason. The s--- (Sorry Joe) was not good enough at any level, from any position, myself included, especially myself." We'll see if the unit responds Friday against the Giants. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. BAL: Isaiah Likely exits early [Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Ryan Mink](=) Baltimore Ravens TE Isaiah Likely (undisclosed) exited the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles and went to the locker room with an undisclosed injury Saturday, Aug. 12. Our view: Likely has a muscle injury of unspecified severity. He went to the locker room after a hit, but was seen in street clothes on the sidelines after the game. He's the #2 tight end behind Mark Andrews, but also can play the big slot role. As long as this isn't a long term injury, and it doesn't sound like it is, he should be on your waiver wire watch list. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. JAX: Solid debut for Tank Bigsby [Source: ESPN.com](=) Jacksonville Jaguars RB Tank Bigsby rushed nine times for 52 yards in a 28-23 preseason win over the Dallas Cowboys Saturday, Aug. 12. Our view: Bigsby barely played with the starters, so he's not about to take Travis Etienne's job, but he has been one of the talks of training camp, and the team has said they are open to his role growing as the season goes on. He's still worth taking in the second half of your draft as an upside stash. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. MIA: Cam Smith dealing with injury [Source: The Miami Herald - Daniel Oyefusi]( Miami Dolphins CB Cam Smith (shoulder) is dealing with a shoulder injury, but head coach Mike McDaniel said Smith is not expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time. Our view: Smith, the team's second round pick, has a chance to start Week 1 with Jalen Ramsey sidelined for a while, possibly until December. Noah Igbinoghene and Eli Apple are the other candidates to start Week 1 vs. the Chargers. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. CAR: Miles Sanders held out of preseason opener [Source: NFL Network - Cameron Wolfe]() Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Miles Sanders (groin) did not play in the preseason contest against the New York Jets Saturday, Aug. 12, because of a 'very mild' groin injury. According to a source, there is no concern about Sanders' availability for Week 1 and he would have played if it was a regular-season game. Our view: We'll be watching this even though the team is saying it is minor. If there's any sort of recurrence, we might have to back off of Sanders at ADP. The Panthers offensive line also had a rough night, so this is very much an under construction offense with the #1 overall pick Bryce Young starting at quarterback. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update.
