It's a big day today as we're releasing Sigmund Bloom's Draft Day Game Plan. It's your secret weapon for crushing your draft. Plus we dive into IDP talk plus I asked the staff what they're expecting from Tua Tagovailoa this year. And of course, we have the News and Notes from our Cecil Lammey. On a somber note, I'd also like to lift up the many folks affected by the devasting [fires in Maui, Hawaii](=). Many folks know Maui as a beautiful tourist destination. I have a different perspective as I had family that lived there up till 2022 and I visited often. While the resorts are luxurious, the vast majority of Maui residents are regular folks. And the devastation for them is stunning. If you know me, you know I'm a fan of Food Banks as they're often a great way to get help directly to people in need. You can see the website for [the Maui Foodbank here](). Mahalo. (That's how folks in Hawaii say "thank you".) Peace and Grace to y'all. IND: Jonathan Taylor expected back next week [Source: Indianapolis Star - Joel A. Erickson]( Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is expected to rejoin the team at some point next week, according to head coach Shane Steichen. Our view: If Taylor can get back on the practice field next week, it could make the latest window of value, when he was sometimes falling to the third round, a big win for teams that drafted him. It's still possible that he gets traded, which wouldn't necessarily be bad for his value, and the Colts were looking at Kareem Hunt earlier this week - although that could be about injuries to players behind Taylor. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. PHI: Kenneth Gainwell pushing for starting gig [Source: PhillyVoice.com - Shamus Clancy]( Philadelphia Eagles RB Kenneth Gainwell 'looks like he's being promoted' to the starting role, according to Shamus Clancy of PhillyVoice.com, and Clancy said Gainwell has 'undoubtedly had a stronger camp' than RB Rashaad Penny. Our view: Gainwell has been going third among the Eagles backs behind D'Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny, and in the 12th round or later. That's about to change, as we have to put some stock in how he was used in camp - most often with the first team - and that Penny and Swift aren't known for staying healthy and exceeding expectations. Gainwell is worth a 10th round pick or better on this news and Swift and Penny aren't clearly worth drafting ahead of him. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. LAR: Cooper Kupp still day-to-day [Source: NFL.com]( Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp (hamstring) is still considered day-to-day because of his hamstring injury, according to head coach Sean McVay. Our view: Day-to-day is better than week-to-week, but we're not going to see Kupp in the preseason either way - not that we were going to before this injury. Hopefully, we'll get news that he's back on the practice field and avoiding re-injury soon, which would make it a lot easier to take him as high as #3 overall in drafts. Kupp was the #1 PPR receiver when he went down last year and can do that again if he and Matthew Stafford can stay healthy. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. LVR: Davante Adams suffers injury [Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Myles Simmons]() Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams (leg) suffered an apparent leg injury during practice Friday, Aug. 11, but head coach Josh McDaniels said the injury does not appear to be serious. Our view: We'll see how long this leg injury keeps Adams out of action. Things aren't great with the Raiders' offense, especially if RB Josh Jacobs continues his holdout or is moved via trade. Adams is the biggest bright spot, and even catching passes from Jimmy Garoppolo he should pay off as a WR1 for Fantasy GMs. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. KC: Patrick Mahomes to play Sunday [Source: NFL.com](=) Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will play the first quarter of the team's preseason game Sunday, Aug. 13, according to head coach Andy Reid. Our view: Every team is different, but Reid is playing the league's biggest superstar in the preseason. Mahomes doesn't need a ton of action, but it will be good for him to showcase what he can do in an exhibition game. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. HOU: C.J. Stroud throws pick in debut [Source: ESPN.com](=) Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud completed two of his four pass attempts for 13 yards and an interception and ran twice for six yards in a 20-9 preseason win over the New England Patriots Thursday, Aug. 10. Our view: It was not a good night for Stroud even though starting this game seemed to indicate that he was in line to start Week 1 instead of still battling with Davis Mills as head coach Demeco Ryans said there would be a competition between the two at the open of camp. Stroud also took a sack, but avoided one on the next play and scrambled for a gain. On his second series, he had a short completion but was otherwise unsuccessful. The Texans and their #2 overall pick will hope for a better result next week. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. HOU: Tank Dell shines in preseason opener [Source: ESPN.com](=) Houston Texans WR Tank Dell caught five of his eight targets for 65 yards and a touchdown in a 20-9 preseason win over the New England Patriots Thursday, Aug. 10. Our view: Dell had a circus catch score and stood out in his debut. He's in line to be the #4 receiver at worst and could continue to move up the depth chart. #2 pick C.J. Stroud reportedly bonded with Dell during the pre-draft process and wanted him to end up a Texan, so Dell could be a fast riser if their chemistry creates early opportunity. The third-round pick should be on your late round target list if this keeps up. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. BAL: Lamar Jackson will not play Saturday [Source: NFL.com]( Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson will not play in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 12. Our view: While it would be good for him to get live reps in the new Todd Monken offense, the team also doesn't need to risk his health any more than necessary. We're excited to see Jackson in the faster and more pass-friendly approach on offense, but it will have to wait at least another week. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. MIN: Ty Chandler impresses [Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Ben Goessling]( Minnesota Vikings RB Ty Chandler 'jumped out' in the first preseason game, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell. 'Any time he had the ball in his hands, he was rarely tackled by the first defender that was in space,' O'Connell said. Our view: Chandler has that ability because of his speed and ability to keep his feet after contact. He's battling for the no.2 spot on the depth chart behind Alexander Mattison and has to beat out Kene Nwangwu for that job. [Back to Top](#top) [] 10. NO: Jaylon Smith joining Saints [Source: TheScore.com - Jordan Schultz](=) Free-agent LB Jaylon Smith (Giants) agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints Thursday, Aug. 10, according to sources. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Our view: The team is trying to improve their depth at linebacker behind Demario Davis and Pete Werner. They had Anthony Barr in earlier this week, but couldn't get him to sign on the dotted line. Smith could have value in IDP leagues if the 34-year-old Davis or Werner, who missed time with an ankle injury last year, go down. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. BUF: Terrel Bernard leaves early [Source: ESPN.com - Alaina Getzenberg](=) Buffalo Bills LB Terrel Bernard (hamstring) left practice early Thursday, Aug. 10, because of a hamstring injury. Our view: Bernard's injury could open the door for Tyrel Dodson to seize the job vacated by Tremaine Edmunds when he left for Chicago in free agency. IDP players should pay close attention to any additional news that comes out about the severity of Bernard's hamstring issue. [Back to Top](#top) [] 12. LAR: Puka Nacua carving out role [Source: The Athletic - Jourdan Rodrigue]( Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua has 'been in the mix often' since the start of OTAs, according to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. Our view: The Rams #3 wide receiver job is wide open, and might not have one clear winner to start the season. Free agent pickup Demarcus Robinson has had a strong camp and is the most experienced of the candidates, while tiny but speedy 2021 second-round pick Tutu Atwell has shown that he can be more than a gadget player. Nacua has been given a heavy workload in practices since OTAs and the fifth-round pick hasn't buckled under it. If Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson stay healthy, it probably won't matter, but in deeper leagues and dynasty leagues, this is a position battle to watch. [Back to Top](#top) [] 13. MIN: Kareem Hunt meeting with MIN [Source: NFL.com](=) Free-agent RB Kareem Hunt (Browns) is meeting with the Minnesota Vikings Friday, Aug. 11, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Our view: Hunt was supposed to sign with the Saints, but the Colts offered him more money. He met with the Colts, but Hunt did not sign a contract. Now, he's set to meet with the Vikings where he could land as the primary backup to Alexander Mattison. With Hunt's skill set, he could be a featured back if Mattison were to miss time. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) [] 14. SEA: Cade Johnson out of hospital [Source: NFL.com](=) Seattle Seahawks WR Cade Johnson (concussion) has been released from the hospital but will remain in the concussion protocol. Our view: Johnson (head/neck) was taken to the hospital during halftime of the game against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday. He was stabilized as a precaution, and now he's out of the hospital. We'll see how long the young receiver remains in the concussion protocol. [Back to Top](#top) [] 15. LAR: Kyren Williams shines at camp [Source: The Athletic - Jourdan Rodrigue]( Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams 'was outstanding in both the run and pass game' during training camp, according to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. Our view: Williams will be the passing down back spelling Cam Akers and he would presumably get the biggest share of backfield work if Akers goes down, ahead of sixth-round pick Zach Evans, who is having a quiet camp. [Back to Top](#top) [] 16. DET: Kalif Raymond receives extension [Source: NFL.com](=) Detroit Lions WR Kalif Raymond agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with the Lions Friday, Aug. 11, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Raymond will be one of the highest paid punt returners in the NFL. Our view: Raymond has done a good job with the Lions for a few seasons. He's a reserve receiver, but usually, he has trustworthy hands when it's time to make a play. As a return man, Raymond is slippery and quick in the open field. [Back to Top](#top) [] 17. HOU: Tytus Howard may be ready for opener [Source: Click2Houston.com - Aaron Wilson]() Houston Texans OT Tytus Howard (hand) has a chance to be ready for Week 1 even though he broke his hand in two places, according to a source. Our view: This is a possible relief for an offensive line that has already suffered more than its share of injuries this summer. The team did sign George Fant to back up Howard and Laremy Tunsil, but getting Howard back for Week 1 against the Ravens would be a boost for the running game at a minimum. [Back to Top](#top) [] 18. MIN: Jalen Reagor paces team in receiving [Source: The Associated Press](=) Minnesota Vikings WR Jalen Reagor caught four passes for a team-high 55 yards on Thursday, Aug. 10, against the Seattle Seahawks. He was targeted four times. Our view: Reagor is playing for his spot on the roster, which got less secure when the team signed another former first-round pick, N'keal Harry. This will help his cause. Brandon Powell and first-round pick Jordan Addison were the other primary receivers to start the game in a positive sign for the possibility of K.J. Osborn holding down the #2 job - although the #3 receiver plays a lot in the Vikings offense and Addison has already probably won that job and he can only go up from here. [Back to Top](#top) [] 19. SEA: Drew Lock plays well in preseason opener [Source: The Associated Press](=) Seattle Seahawks QB Drew Lock completed 17 of 24 passes for 191 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT in the team's win over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, Aug. 10. Our view: Lock got the start and led the team back to victory from a 10-point deficit. His one interception was tipped - but still not a great decision - but otherwise Lock looked like he was in command, showing off his arm strength and ability to move in the pocket. The Seahawks are in good shape at backup quarterback compared to most teams. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of Footballguys.
