â [] 1. ARI: Marlon Mack to miss season [Source: NFL.com]( Arizona Cardinals RB Marlon Mack (Achilles) has been diagnosed with a torn Achilles tendon and will miss the entire 2023 season, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon. Our view: Mack signed on with the Cardinals this year to give them veteran depth at the position. Now, he's done for the year and the Cardinals will be scrambling at the position. We should see them make a move in the near future. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. LVR: Zamir White atop depth chart [Source: ESPN.com - Paul Gutierrez]( Las Vegas Raiders RB Zamir White is listed as the starting running back on the team's first depth chart of the preseason. Our view: Until Josh Jacobs reports, the Raiders backfield will be led by White, with Ameer Abdullah taking passing downs. Brandon Bolden would be the #3 back if Jacobs doesn't report for Week 1. White is still available in the very late rounds of drafts, but that could change if Jacobs camp isn't giving off any signs of reporting soon. [Back to Top](#top)
â [] 3. CLE: Deshaun Watson to play Friday [Source: NFL.com]( Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson said he scheduled to start the preseason game Friday, Aug. 9. Our view: Watson was not good at all for the Browns last year once he came back from his suspension. We say he needs as much time he can get playing in the preseason to sharpen those skills. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. DEN: Greg Dulcich listed as No. 2 TE [Source: Denver7 - Troy Renck]() Denver Broncos TE Greg Dulcich is listed as the No. 2 tight end on the team's first unofficial depth chart that was released on Wednesday, Aug. 9. Fellow TE Adam Trautman is listed as the starter. Our view: Nobody should be surprised by this. Our very own Cecil Lammey has reported from Broncos camp about Dulcich's struggles. He's made some plays as a receiver here and there, but Dulcich has not been consistent. Plus, he's not yet well-rounded as a blocker. That's critical for him to do in a Sean Payton offense. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. CHI: Hamstring issue for Chase Claypool [Source: NFL.com]( Chicago Bears WR Chase Claypool (hamstring) suffered an apparent hamstring injury during practice Wednesday, Aug. 9, according to NFL Network's Stacey Dales. Our view: Claypool is incredibly gifted from a physical standpoint, but man alive is he banged up seemingly every time you turn around. We'll see how long this hamstring injury keeps him out of action. With Claypool injured, guys like Dante Pettis and Velus Jones could get more work. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. CHI: Justin Fields to play in preseason opener [Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs]() Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields and select starters will play in the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans, head coach Matt Eberflus said on Wednesday, Aug. 9. Our view: Fields can be the best fantasy football quarterback in the NFL this season. He's a dangerous runner and the addition of WR D.J. Moore should help him make strides as a passer. Even if his step as a passer is smaller than what we saw from QB Jalen Hurts (Eagles) last year, Fields has enough skill to be a great weekly starter for your fantasy league. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. MIN: Jordan Addison standing out in camp [Source: The Associated Press](=) Minnesota Vikings WR Jordan Addison has been among the team's biggest standouts during training camp so far, according to The Associated Press on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Our view: Addison is worth the 7th-ish round pick it would take to get him in redraft leagues. He'll almost certainly get most of the targets vacated by Adam Thielen, and he's probably more capable of adding value to them than Thielen is at this point in his career. Last year's sixth-round pick Jalen Nailor has had a good camp and his deep speed should get him on the field more this year. We'll be watching to see how snaps and targets and divvied up between Addison, K.J. Osborn and Nailor, but Addison clearly has the most value of any Vikings receiver not named Jefferson. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. CLE: Jerome Ford to miss time [Source: NFL.com]( Cleveland Browns RB Jerome Ford (hamstring) is considered week-to-week because of a hamstring injury. Our view: Ford was in line to be the primary backup to Nick Chubb this year. Now, the Browns are going to have to find another option. Ford is week-to-week, but hamstring injuries can linger if they're not treated correctly or given enough time to heal. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. MIA: Jaylen Waddle leaves early [Source: NFL.com]( Miami Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle (side) left practice early Wednesday, Aug. 9, because of an apparent side injury, according to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe. Our view: We'll know more about Waddle's injury in the near future. Hopefully, it's nothing that serious but it might keep him out of preseason action. [Back to Top](#top) [] 10. IND: Deon Jackson out with injury [Source: Indianapolis Star - Joel A. Erickson]() Indianapolis Colts RB Deon Jackson (undisclosed) missed practice Tuesday, Aug. 8, with an apparent injury. Our view: This could be part of the reason the Colts felt a need to let Kareem Hunt know that they were interested in his service - probably coming in above whatever the Saints were offering him. If Jackson's injury is one that causes him to miss extensive time, the Colts will be without the backs they expected to be their top three (along with Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss), with fifth-round pick Evan Hull also figuring into the mix. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. BAL: J.K. Dobbins expected back soon [Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport](=) Baltimore Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins (undisclosed) is expected to start practicing soon, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday, Aug. 9. Our view: The Ravens need Dobbins back before the regular season. He's not happy with his contract, but like most running backs he may just have to deal with it. That sounds cold, but it's a cold-blooded business - especially when it comes to running backs. [Back to Top](#top) [] 12. CHI: Dante Pettis cleared to practice [Source: NFL.com]( Chicago Bears WR Dante Pettis (undisclosed) passed his physical Wednesday, Aug. 9, and has been activated from the Active/Non-Football Injury list. Our view: Good timing for the Bears here. Chase Claypool just got banged up (again) with a hamstring injury. Pettis has plenty of speed and if healthy can be tasked with taking the top off the defense. [Back to Top](#top) [] 13. DEN: Coaches high on Courtland Sutton [Source: NFL.com]( Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton is standing out at training camp and coaches believe he could return to his 2019 form, NFL Network's James Palmer reported on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Our view: Sutton's explosion is back this year, and you can see it off the line of scrimmage and at the catch point. He's ready to bounce back to his 2019 levels and beyond after suffering a knee injury early in 2020 and not looking the same since. [Back to Top](#top) [] 14. BAL: Jadeveon Clowney visits Baltimore [Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec](=) Free-agent DE Jadeveon Clowney (Browns) visited the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Our view: The last wave of free agency in in full swing as teams have gotten a week plus to look at what they have and decide how to use the last bit of cap room to improve the roster heading into the season. The Ravens officially lost their 2022 sack leader Justin Houston when he signed with Carolina earlier this month, so they are in the market for veteran pass rush help. Clowney only had two sacks in 12 games for Cleveland last year, but had nine sacks in 2021. The Ravens are counting on youngsters Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo on the edge, and Clowney would likely only be a passing down specialist if the sign him. [Back to Top](#top) [] 15. BAL: Rashod Bateman cleared [Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates]( Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman (foot) was activated off the active/physically unable to perform list on Wednesday, Aug. 9. Our view: The Ravens have been waiting for Bateman to be back, and now he's ready to practice. We're excited about the passing game under new OC Todd Monken, and that includes Bateman if he is healthy. Bateman is working, and now playing catch up, with guys like Odell Beckham Jr and rookie Zay Flowers to establish a pecking order. [Back to Top](#top) [] 16. DEN: Mike McGlinchey out for a few weeks [Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams]() Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos OT Mike McGlinchey (knee) suffered a sprained knee during practice Tuesday, Aug. 8, and is expected to be sidelined two to three weeks. Our view: McGlinchey was a big ticket signing for the Broncos, mainly to upgrade their run blocking. The injury could have been worse and this news is considered a relief for the team. The hope is that he'll be ready for the season opener against the Raiders in a month. Cam Fleming and Isaiah Prince are the possible replacements on the roster. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update.
