CBSSports' Jason La Canfora [wrote this today](=) in an article about how the Colts were excercising caution with Andrew Luck. From the article, LaCanfora said, "The uncertainly with Luck -- I've heard plenty of rumblings about him starting the year on the physically unable to perform list -- comes at a unique nexus for this franchise. As a first-time general manager just on the job, Ballard has time on his side, and undoubtedly Luck is the greatest thing this organization has going for it. This roster is far from the finished product, and with Ballard just beginning a five-year contract, the long view -- or at least the medium-view -- has to dictate the vision of the front office." Now you know the way this works. What Fantasy Owners read here is "blah blah blah...I've heard plenty of rumblings about him starting the year on the physically unable to perform list... blah blah blah". And I don't think that's exactly fair. To Luck or to La Canfora. [Our Dr. Jene Bramel had this yesterday on Luck](): "ANDREW LUCK | SHOULDER LABRUM REPAIR | JANUARY | ACTIVE - PUP | WEEK-TO-WEEK Luck still won't commit to a return date. He's not being coy. The Colts and Luck have a target date in mind -- Week 1 -- but the quarterback still has to successfully complete the throwing phase of his rehab. Luck's rehab hasn't been rushed through seven months and it won't be now. Asof last weekend, Luck wouldn't say whether he's been cleared to throw a football yet. He told [reporters he started throwing a tennis ball](=). I wouldn't be discouraged about the Colts' caution here and it's a good sign the team has cleared Luck to throw. There's still time for him to build arm strength and eventually work on stamina and accuracy. But this is a rehab that will continue very late into the preseason and possibly beyond. Don't expect Luck to be removed from the PUP list soon." [Dr. Bramel had this today]( following the article from LaCanfora: "LaCanfora reporting he's heard rumblings Andrew Luck could be placed on inseason PUP. Quick thread on why that's tough to buy right now." "Clear that Colts waited as long as possible to clear Luck to throw. Likely hoped to minimize risk of soreness, inflammation, setback." "By waiting so long, Colts and Luck realize they've left themselves slim margin for smooth throwing stage of rehab in time for Week 1." "Luck is not far into throwing rehab. If setback or major concern, it's very unlikely Luck would still be cleared to speak with media." "Thoughts of inseason PUP" means someone today thinks Luck may need another 10-12 weeks of rehab/recovery. Seems unlikely unless setback." "I'm not saying Luck will be full strength Week 1. I think he'll need more time to continue building strength, stamina, accuracy." "But -- unless there's more to the story than Colts/Luck letting on -- hard to see how anyone could make judgement on inseason PUP today." *************** Bottom Line: We're cautiously watching Luck and his progress. We're not minimizing his situation but we're also not panicking. Our current expectation is that he's there on Week One. But clearly that's still a question that's yet to be answered definitively by the Colts or Andrew Luck. We currently see Luck as the[7th QB on the board](=) and we're proceeding with caution.
