Our view: This is almost certainly a multi-week injury, although it probably won't affect his availability for Week 1 against the Browns. We should assume that Burrow won't practice much if it all before Week 1 and he could also be sat for the preseason. This isn't a reason to move Burrow or his targets down in rankings, but we should be watching for the possibility of a re-injury during the season and react accordingly if it does come to pass. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NYJ: Dalvin Cook expected to land with Jets](=) Source: SportsKeeda.com - Tony Pauline Free-agent RB Dalvin Cook (Vikings) is expected to sign with the New York Jets this weekend, according to insiders around the league. Our view: Time to adjust Breece Hall's ranking downward, but it might not be time to adjust Cook's ranking upward from the 7th-8th round range it settled at after his release. This could help Hall in the long run, as it will allow the Jets to bring him along slowly less than a year removed from an ACL tear, but in the short term, you can't count on him as a Week 1 starter for your fantasy team or the Jets. --------------------------------------------------------------- [IND: Anthony Richardson working with ones](=) Source: FOX 59 Indianapolis - Mike Chappell Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson is working out with the first-team offense Friday, July 28. Our view: There's some question whether Richardson will start Week 1, but this is a good sign for him. He's the kind of player who probably learns more from making mistakes on the job that he will watching from the sidelines, so while it might be a rough ride at first, Richardson can still shine in fantasy leagues by producing big numbers as a runner a la 2022 Justin Fields while his passing game is still a work in progress. --------------------------------------------------------------- [MIA: Jalen Ramsey may miss most of season](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) may be sidelined until December if he suffered a full meniscus tear, according to sources. Our view: Rapoport reports that the likely outcome is a full meniscus tear, which would obviously be a blow for a defense that was hoping to put the clamps of opposing passing games with an outside corner combination of Ramsey and Xavien Howard. The team does have good depth at the position, with this year's second round pick Cam Smith, 2020 first-round pick Noah Igbinoghene, and last year's UDFA revelation Kader Kohou behind Ramsey. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NYJ: Garrett Wilson exits practice early Thursday]( Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson (ankle) rolled an ankle early in practice Thursday, July 27, but head coach Robert Saleh told reporters after practice that he is not concerned about the severity of the injury. Our view: We're certainly not going to change Wilson's ranking based on a minor injury, but if he aggravates the injury during camp or the preseason, we will have to take notice. So far it sounds like everything on track for the Rodgers-Wilson connection before this happened. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NO: Trevor Penning day-to-day](=) Source: NFL.com New Orleans Saints OT Trevor Penning (foot) is considered day-to-day because of a foot injury. Our view: The Saints are counting on the 2022 first-round pick to stay healthy and beat out James Hurst to start at left tackle. He missed most of his rookie year with foot injuries, although head coach Dennis Allen said this injury is unrelated his lis franc surgery. The Saints offensive line is one of the better units in the league, but if Penning can't stay healthy, it will keep them from being at their best. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NYJ: Mekhi Becton back on field]( Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets OT Mekhi Becton (knee) participated in practice Thursday, July 27, after missing the previous practice. Our view: The Jets offensive line is racked with about as much uncertainty as any unit in the league right now. Becton could be an impactful starting left tackle, but our offensive line expert Matt Bitonti thinks that it's possible one of he or Duane Brown may not be on the roster Week 1. The Jets are installing a new offense with a veteran quarterback, so getting up to speed quickly will be important for whoever starts on the line. Staying on the practice field is a good first step to accomplishing that goal. --------------------------------------------------------------- [BUF: Gabe Davis at full strength](=) Source: BuffaloBills.com - Maddy Glab Buffalo Bills WR Gabe Davis (ankle) said he feels much healthier heading into the 2023 season after dealing with a lingering ankle injury last year. 'But for me, I just felt like I lost a step,' Davis said. 'Really couldn't do the things that I wanted to do that I was doing early that camp and then the first game or in practice and stuff.' Our view: Davis is available 3-4 rounds after he was in 2022 drafts, so there's an injury discount, if you believe the injury was the reason he didn't live up to expectations and he'll be able to stay healthy this year. The team does have a lot more crowded passing game this year, so Davis will need to excel to standout in a group that includes three viable #3 options and slot receiver/tight end first-round pick Dalton Kincaid. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NE: Ty Montgomery suffers injury]( Source: PatriotsWire - Jordy McElroy New England Patriots RB Ty Montgomery (leg) suffered a leg injury during practice Thursday, July 27. Our view: Montgomery is day-to-day, so this isn't a serious injury. It's still something to watch as Montgomery appeared to be in line for a passing down role if he had stayed healthy last year. Montgomery's designation on the Patriots roster was recently changed from running back to wide receiver, so it's possible that he won't be a big part of the backfield in any event. --------------------------------------------------------------- [TEN: Tennessee signing Chris Hubbard](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler The Tennessee Titans are signing free-agent OT Chris Hubbard (Browns), according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Our view: There's a possibility that Hubbard starts the first six games at right tackle while Nicholas Petit-Frere sits serving a gambling suspension. The Titans probably have the worst offensive line in the league, and it's not close. --------------------------------------------------------------- [DAL: No timetable for Luke Schoonmaker]( Source: The Dallas Morning News - Michael Gehlken Dallas Cowboys TE Luke Schoonmaker (foot) is making progress in his recovery but does not have a timetable at this time. Head coach Mike McCarthy said he hopes Schoonmaker will be able to practice during training camp. Our view: Jake Ferguson is also having a great camp, so while Schoonmaker might be seen as a long-term starter, it will be tough to ask the second-round pick to play a big role at the beginning of the season with little or no training camp practices under his belt. Ferguson is going very late in drafts, if at all, so he's a value pick right now. --------------------------------------------------------------- [DET: Sam LaPorta working with the starters]( Source: The Athletic - Colton Pouncy Detroit Lions TE Sam LaPorta has 'earned' his current place with the first-team offense, according to offensive coordinator Benjamin Johnson. Our view: LaPorta might not be a high volume target in a pass offense that will feature Amon-Ra St. Brown and incorporate first-round pick Jahmyr Gibbs heavily out of the backfield, but this offense is so productive and efficient, that a mid-to-low TE1 season is within the range of outcomes for the rookie. He should be on your late round tight end target list. --------------------------------------------------------------- [BUF: James Cook making an impression]() Source: The Athletic - Joe Buscaglia Buffalo Bills RB James Cook has been impressive enough so far that offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey told reporters that he is 'really excited about him and what he can do' and added that Cook has 'three-down back' potential, according to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic. Our view: Don't assume that Cook's lack of production and involvement last year was because the Bills were disappointed with him. He has a chance to the lead the backfield of one of the most productive offenses in the league, and he's available in the seventh round or later of most drafts. Cook's ADP should rise if the Bills keep talking him up like this. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LAR: Puka Nacua cramps up](=) Source: The Associated Press - Greg Beacham Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua (cramps) was carted off during practice Thursday, July 27, after experiencing cramps. Our view: Don't let this news overshadow the drumbeat that Nacua started in OTAs and carried over to training camp. He has a real shot to be the #3 receiver, and it sounds like the team is giving him as much work in camp as he can handle, or maybe even a little more based on this news item. Nacua should be on our early season waiver wire watch list, and deep league late round deep sleeper list. Got skills? Want to join the best darn team of fantasy football experts around?
