Our view: This is a bigger blow for the Bills return game than it is for the offense, but it will hurt their starting field position after Hines was a shot in the arm for them last year. James Cook could get a bigger share of passing down work in the wake of this unfortunate injury. --------------------------------------------------------------- [KC: Kadarius Toney to miss time]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney (knee) is expected to miss some time during training camp but be ready for the start of the regular season following the knee 'tweak' he suffered during practice Sunday, July 23. The injury was reportedly an aggravation of the same injury that caused Toney to undergo an offseason cleanup procedure on his knee. Our view: While it's somewhat reassuring to hear that he's expected to be ready for the start of the season, that the timeline for recovery could stretch for weeks, or even a month plus fits in the pattern already established for Toney - he can't stay on the field. Skyy Moore and OTA/camp sensation Richie James become more interesting with this news. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LVR: Josh Jacobs unlikely to take field anytime soon](=) Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Updating a previous report, Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs, who has yet to sign his franchise-tag tender, was reportedly spotted boarding a plane Monday, July 24, and has told people close to him that he has no intention to return to Las Vegas anytime soon, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Our view: Normally, we would say that holdouts have such a huge financial disincentive that they are highly unlikely to go into the regular season, but this wording of this report and recent outcry by running backs about the state of their pay compared to other positions could lead to a different outcome. Jacobs is already going at a big discount from the first round production he put up last year, but he could drop more and backup Zamir White could rise out of the late rounds on this news. --------------------------------------------------------------- [TB: Rachaad White to handle it all?]( Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Rachaad White has the skills to be a three-down back, according to offensive coordinator Dave Canales. 'I think the one thing that I've seen from him first-hand is just how versatile he is,' Canales said. 'He's got smooth hands. He's got great vision and pace, patience in the hole, and then he's got like he's got some really cool hidden power.' Our view: White is going in the 6th round or later despite being an uncontested #1 back. He has passing game chops and should exceed that cost on volume alone, but he doesn't have good offense/big play upside, so he should stay at that modest price even if he builds buzz in camp. --------------------------------------------------------------- [BAL: Rashod Bateman activated]() Source: BaltimoreRavens.com Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman was activated from the Reserve/Did Not Report list Sunday, July 23. Our view: The did not report drama did not last long. Now let's see how his surgically repaired foot responds to training camp. The Ravens wide receiver group has a lot of opportunity and a lot of question marks. --------------------------------------------------------------- [CHI: Chase Claypool on PUP list]( Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates Chicago Bears WR Chase Claypool (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Sunday, July 23. Our view: Claypool didn't exactly pop after the Bears traded for him during the season last year, and he's going to be behind DJ Moore in the pecking order after the Bears traded for him in the offseason. This won't help his case to have fantasy relevance this year. --------------------------------------------------------------- [TEN: Harold Landry ready for camp]( Source: Titans Wire - Shaun Calderon Tennessee Titans LB Harold Landry (knee) is ready for training camp after not being placed on the active/physically unable to perform list, Shaun Calderon of Titans Wire wrote on Sunday, July 23. Our view: This is good news for a team that sorely needs some. Landry tore an ACL before the season started last year after the team signed him to a five-year, $87.5 million contract. He should be their top pass rusher and a factor in IDP leagues again this year. --------------------------------------------------------------- [TB: Ke'Shawn Vaughn the top backup]( Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn enters training camp as the primary backup running back, according to offensive coordinator Dave Canales. Our view: We will be watching to see if talented UDFA Sean Tucker can unseat Vaughn behind one of the least accomplished starting backs in the league, Rachaad White. Tucker fell out of the draft because of a heart issue, but many had him as a 3rd-4th round level talent, which is the range of the draft where White and Vaughn were selected by the Bucs. --------------------------------------------------------------- [DEN: Javonte Williams to avoid PUP list]( Source: NFL Network - James Palmer Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) will not start training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list, according to sources. Our view: This is the best possible news at this juncture for Williams. Most timelines were conservative and had him missing the beginning of the season after he suffered a dreaded "ACL plus" injury, but if he doesn't suffer any setbacks in camp, he should be ready for Week 1. Expect his ADP to rise on this news. --------------------------------------------------------------- [CLE: Coach lauds Nick Chubb's game](=) Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb is a player who is 'good at it all' and 'a schematic fit really in anything,' according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.'Nick's a huge part of our offense, obviously hand it to him, throwing it to him. ... I don't know if there (are) limits to him as a player. I think he's a schematic fit really in anything. ... I think Nick's a good runner when you spread it out. Nick's a good runner when you try to block everybody. He's good from the (shotgun), good from the pistol, good from when quarterback is under center, so we talk a lot about versatility and offense. ... You can run anything with Nick. There (are) some runners that really prefer downhill gap scheme runs and maybe aren't great from the (shotgun). There (are) some runners that are better from the (shotgun) and better on perimeter-type schemes. Nick's good at it all,' Stefanski told reporters Sunday, July 23. Our view: With Kareem Hunt gone, Chubb should get more passing game work, and Deshaun Watson should improve the offense after he was woeful last year in a six-game stint at the end of the season. Chubb is rising in the second round and should level off as a top 15-18 pick. That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
