Dobbins lands on PUP list]() Source: NFLCommunications.com Baltimore Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Friday, July 21. Our view: Dobbins appeared to regain his old form late last year after a delayed return from knee surgery. This isn't the news we were hoping for after a somewhat ambiguous absence from OTAs. What looked like a soft holdout might have been more about a soft tissue injury that is lingering into training camp. Dobbins is available in the sixth round or later, but with this news and the Melvin Gordon signing, taking him at ADP isn't quite as attractive as it was a few days ago. --------------------------------------------------------------- [TEN: Will Levis agrees to terms]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Tennessee Titans second-round draft choice QB Will Levis agreed to terms on a four-year contract Saturday, July 22, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed. Our view: We'll be watching to see if Levis or 2022 third-round pick Malik Willis wins the backup job behind Ryan Tannehill. There are already murmurs that the team will turn to a quarterback of the future if they fall out of playoff contention. Levis should be able to outshine Willis in camp and the preseason, but Willis could push him with the urgency of not being guaranteed a roster spot in only his second year. --------------------------------------------------------------- [BAL: Rashod Bateman placed on Did Not Report list]( Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Ryan Mink Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman was placed on the Reserve/Did Not Report list Friday, July 21. General manager Eric DeCosta said the team expects Bateman to report soon. Our view: More mystery from the Ravens camp as Bateman had a cortisone shot to help his surgically repaired foot heal in June, and also aired some public tension with the team in now deleted tweets after general manager Eric DeCosta commented on the team's track record drafting wide receivers at the Combine. Bateman seems to be frustrated with how his first two seasons have gone and probably isn't 100% yet. Odell Beckham and Zay Flowers appear to be the better investments among the Ravens wide receiver group in the new likely pass-friendlier offense under Todd Monken. --------------------------------------------------------------- [CAR: Bryce Young signs rookie deal]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Carolina Panthers first-round draft choice QB Bryce Young (Alabama) reportedly agreed to terms on a four-year fully guaranteed contract worth $37.96 million - including a $24.6 million signing bonus - on Friday, July 21. The deal includes a fifth-year team option. Our view: Getting rookies to sign their first NFL contract doesn't come with much suspense anymore. Young's contract is a massive bargain by current starting quarterback standards and it should give the Panthers a window to spend more on other positions to push for contention in the underwhelming NFC South. --------------------------------------------------------------- [DEN: Denver adds Brett Maher]() Source: Click2Houston.com - Aaron Wilson Free-agent PK Brett Maher (Cowboys) agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos Friday, July 21, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Our view: Maher revived his career with the Cowboys last year after flaming out for the team in 2019. The Broncos recently released long-time kicker Brandon McManus. The battle to replace him will be between Maher and another offseason signing, Elliott Fry. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LAR: Cooper Kupp elite when healthy]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp's (ankle) 75 receptions in nine games prior to his ankle last year put him on pace for 142 catches for the season. Our view: Kupp is still going in the top five of drafts even though the Rams offense appears to be in decline. As long as both he and Matthew Stafford stay healthy, Kupp should be worth that high of a pick, but neither finished the season on the field last year. --------------------------------------------------------------- [WAS: Emmanuel Forbes agrees to deal](=) Source: TheScore.com - Jordan Schultz Washington Commanders first-round draft choice CB Emmanuel Forbes agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Commanders Friday, July 21, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal includes a fifth-year option. Our view: The undersized Forbes was the most accomplished ballhawk in the SEC, but his rail-thin 6'1" 166 lb. frame will be tested against the run and NFL sized outside receivers. Expect Weeks 1-3 opponents Arizona, Denver, and Buffalo to test Forbes early and often. --------------------------------------------------------------- [GB: Four sidelined for start of camp]() Source: NFLCommunications.com Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Cotton (undisclosed), LB Rashan Gary (knee), C Jake Hanson (undisclosed) and CB Eric J. Stokes (foot) were placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Friday, July 21. Our view: Gary was staking his claim to being one of the best edge rushers in the league before tearing an ACL last year. He's a crucial part of the Packers defense, which they will depend on even more with Aaron Rodgers traded to the Jets. Stokes was a breakout rookie as a first-round pick in 2021, but his play fell off last year and then he suffered a lisfranc injury. He'll be the #4 corner at best, but will give the team great depth once he's healthy. --------------------------------------------------------------- [HOU: Houston works out two]() Source: Click2Houston.com - Aaron Wilson Free-agent WR Jalen Hurd (49ers) worked out for the Houston Texans Friday, July 21. The team also met with free-agent TE Eric Tomlinson (Texans). Our view: Hurd was a third-round pick in 2019 but never saw the field in a meaningful way for the 49ers. Houston's new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik was with San Francisco since 2017, so he might have a plan on how to use Hurd if he signs and somehow makes the team. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NE: Christian Gonzalez inks rookie pact]() Source: KPRC.com - Aaron Wilson New England Patriots first-round draft choice CB Christian Gonzalez (Oregon) signed a four-year fully guaranteed contract worth $15.012 million - including a $7.983 million signing bonus - on Friday, July 21. Our view: The Patriots traded down in the first round and still got the player many had as the #1 corner in the draft. Gonzalez is a long and fast player who should match up with #1 receivers once he's up to speed. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NE: Michael Onwenu still not ready to go]() Source: The Athletic - Chad Graff New England Patriots OG Michael Onwenu (ankle) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Friday, July 21. Our view: Onwenu got hurt in the last regular season game of the season and underwent ankle surgery to repair the injury. The Patriots aren't very forthcoming about injury information, but there's no reason to think that Onwenu won't be ready for Week 1. He's going into a contract year and is probably the Patriots best offensive lineman, so if he has any setbacks in his recovery, it could be a big problem for an offense that doesn't exactly strike fear in the hearts of opposing defenses. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LVR: Tyree Wilson begins career on NFI list]() Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Vincent Bonsignore Las Vegas Raiders DE Tyree Wilson (foot) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list Friday, July 21. Our view: There haven't been many details of Wilson's recovery from foot surgery that happened way back on November 21 of last season. This isn't necessarily a bad sign, but if he's not practicing soon, we should lower expectations for his rookie year contributions. Wilson is expected to back up Chandler Jones and could share a role with free agent pickup Jordan Willis at first, so 2023 expectations were lower than a typical top 10 pick to begin with. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LVR: Raiders take another look at Marcus Peters]( Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Free-Agent CB Marcus Peters is scheduled to visit with the Las Vegas Raiders for a second time, according to a source. Peters is also expected to work out for the team as well. Our view: This is a good match as the Raiders have one of the least accomplished and most vulnerable cornerback groups in the NFL. Peters would become their instant #1 corner, and while his best football is probably behind him, he would still give the unit a lot more credibility. Peters makes and gives up big plays, so this signing wouldn't hurt the matchup outlook for division rivals Mike Williams and Courtland Sutton. That'll do it for today, Folks.
