Our view: This makes the most sense, and we all were expecting this type of news about Hall. Jets HC Robert Saleh said Hall "looks really good" as he continues to recover from a torn ACL. The team expects the second-year runner to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. --------------------------------------------------------------- [KC: Patrick Mahomes still good]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes led the league with a 77.6 QBR last season, and he also had the best QBR in the red zone and when facing the blitz. Our view: It has been known for quite some time that if you blitz Mahomes he will crush you. Teams need to drop seven or eight and hope pressure gets to him. If you send extra defenders after him, more often than not Mahomes will find your weak spot and exploit it time and time again. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NYJ: Aaron Rodgers struggled with pressure]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers has a QBR of 17.0 over the past three years when under pressure compared to a 79.1 QBR when he hasn't been pressured. Our view: Pressure makes every quarterback look mortal - well, most every quarterback but Mahomes. The Jets have to set up Rodgers for success with better protection and a ground game. He can still get around the rush, but Rodgers is not quite as good under pressure as he used to be. --------------------------------------------------------------- [CIN: Joe Burrow deadly deep]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow's 19 touchdown passes on throws of 20-plus yards downfield are the most in the NFL over the past two seasons, and his touchdown-interception ratio on those throws is also the best in the league in that span. Our view: Burrow has a great touch on the ball when throwing deep. He does a fantastic job of leading receivers like Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins down the field. Prepare for another year of Burrow leading one of the league's best passing games in 2023. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NYG: Cole Beasley reuniting with Daboll]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo Free-agent WR Cole Beasley (Bills) reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New York Giants on Friday, July 21. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. Our view: Beasley can be there as a steady target from the slot, and he gives the Giants more veteran depth at the position. He was considering retirement if he did not find a new team, but the connection with coach Brian Daboll came through. The Giants have a nice group of talent at the position, but guys like Wan'Dale Robinson and Sterling Shepard are coming back from injury. We'll see if Beasley can make the 53-man roster. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NFL: Dalvin Cook offered accuser money]( Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Rochelle Olson Free-agent RB Dalvin Cook (Vikings) offered a former girlfriend, who has accused him of domestic violence, $1 million to clear him of wrongdoing in the case. This revelation came from a now-sealed filing by Gracelyn Trimble's attorney. The document was filed in opposition to Cook's request to bar testimony at trial of his cash settlement offers of $800,000 and then $1 million. Cook's initial offer of $800,000 came with a requirement that Trimble sign a sworn affidavit denying abuse claims, the document said. But Trimble has already testified under oath that Cook physically abused her. The $1 million offer required Trimble to send a letter - not sworn testimony - to the NFL absolving Cook of wrongdoing. Our view: Cook is still waiting to find a new team, but he's scheduled to go to trial for this in a Dakota County Court next year. Once the legal process has been exhausted, the league will decide on whether or not to take action. --------------------------------------------------------------- [BAL: Melvin Gordon agrees with Ravens]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Free-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Chiefs) agreed to a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens Friday, July 21, worth up to $3.1 million. Our view: Gordon is at the point of his career where he's not in line to carry the load. However, he can be veteran depth for the Ravens behind J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. If those two are banged up, as has happened over the last couple of seasons, Gordon has plenty of starting experience. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NYJ: Milton Wright tried out for Jets]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Undrafted free-agent WR Milton Wright (Purdue) tried out for the New York Jets Thursday, July 20. Our view: We'll see if Wright can land with a team as training camps kick off around the NFL. Wright was not selected in the Supplemental Draft, so he is free to sign with any team. He's got a nice size/speed combination and some team may decide to bring him on board as a developmental prospect. --------------------------------------------------------------- [ATL: Caleb Huntley not ready yet]() Source: Click2Houston.com - Aaron Wilson Atlanta Falcons RB Caleb Huntley (Achilles) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 20. Our view: The team is not going to rush Huntley back into action, especially since he's just competing for a reserve role when healthy. The Falcons have Bijon Robinson to be a featured weapon with second-year pro Tyler Allgeier getting carries to soften up the defense as well. Huntley may begin the regular season on the PUP list. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NYG: James Robinson signed with Giants]() Source: Giants.com Free-agent RB James Robinson (Jets) signed a one-year contract with the New York Giants on Friday, July 21. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. Our view: Robinson was released by the Patriots in mid-June in part due to his recovery from a torn Achilles' tendon in 2022. With RB Saquon Barkley likely to hold out during training camp, the Giants needed another veteran at the position. If healthy, Robinson has produced in this league as a starter who doesn't need to come off the field. We'll see if Robinson can impress in his new surroundings and push for time while competing against guys like Matt Breida and Eric Gray. --------------------------------------------------------------- [DET: Detroit likely to bring back Justin Jackson]() Source: KPRC.com - Aaron Wilson Free-agent RB Justin Jackson (Lions) is expected to re-sign with the Detroit Lions in the near future, according to a source. Our view: It's a good spot for Jackson as the Lions need more competition behind Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Jackson is a good all-purpose back who will compete with guys like Craig Reynolds and Jermar Jefferson for the no.3 spot on the depth chart. That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update.
