On an episode of "Bussin With the Boys" Vrabel said, "I don't think whatever happened in the past with another player is going to apply to this particular player. We wouldn't have signed him or wanted to sign him if we weren't confident he'd help us." Our view: Vrabel was kind of hinting about how things went with WR Julio Jones and how Hopkins will be different. The veteran is immediately their no.1 receiver and should be force-fed the ball from QB Ryan Tannehill. --------------------------------------------------------------- [KC - Isiah Pacheco may start on PUP list]( Source: ChiefsWire - Charles Goldman Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) may start training camp on the active/PUP list, according to head coach Andy Reid on Tuesday, July 18. Our view: Let's see how this plays out. Jerick McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire are solid players and could see more opportunity if Pacheco were to miss more time. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LVR - Josh Jacobs Deal Talk]() Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Vincent Bonsignore Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs made significant progress in contract talks before the deadline passed Monday, July 17. Our view: Woulda Coulda Shoulda, the deal didn't get done. Now, there are rumblings that Jacobs will stay away from the Raiders' training camp. We'll see if any holdout extends into the regular season. Deals get done at deadlines...unless you're a running back in today's NFL. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NFL - DeSean Jackson not retiring]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper Free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Ravens) said he is not ready to retire at this time. Our view: Earlier reports suggested Jackson may be thinking about hanging up his cleats. Well, he's not there yet and some team may want to bring in the veteran speedster for depth after the start of the regular season (when veteran salaries are not fully guaranteed). --------------------------------------------------------------- [NE - Bill Belichick's seat warm?]() Source: NBC Sports Boston - Tom E. Curran According to Patriots Insider Tom Curran, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has a warm seat for the 2023 season and has been under certain levels of warmth since 2019. Our view: First, take a deep breath. It's Bill Belichick. And every coach's seat has some degree of "warmth." But there clearly is pressure to get the Patriots back to their winning ways. There are rumblings (and there have been pretty much since he was drafted) about ownership being behind QB Mac Jones and Belichick perhaps wanting someone else (Bailey Zappe?) in the lineup. If the Patriots miss the postseason, perhaps it would be time for a fresh start from the legendary head coach. Stay tuned. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LAR - Stafford Denied Pay Adjustment](=) Source: ProFootballTalk.com According to FS1 host Colin Cowherd, Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford denied the team's request for a pay adjustment earlier this offseason before another $57 million became guaranteed in March. Our view: Stafford got $120 million guaranteed over two years because he refused to rework his deal. After his guarantees at signing, Stafford had another $57 million due in March of 2023. Even though the team may have wanted to trade him, that didn't happen and he's back for another season as their starter. Stafford is clearly not the same player he used to be, and we anticipate the Rams will begin looking for their next franchise quarterback in the near future. --------------------------------------------------------------- [GB - Alex McGough closing in on deal]() Source: KPRC.com - Aaron Wilson Free-agent QB Alex McGough (USFL) is expected to sign an undisclosed contract with the Green Bay Packers, according to sources. Our view: McGough was the MVP of the USFL in 2023, and he could sign on with the Packers as a developmental player. It's a great landing spot for him as the Packers don't have much behind starting QB Jordan Love. Rookie QB Sean Clifford (Penn State) is there, but he's more of a Taysom Hill-type quarterback (a runner with just okay passing skill). Danny Etling, a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, is there too but he's bounced around to over a half dozen teams (and had a stint in the CFL) in his pro career. McGough has some rushing ability, and he can use multiple arm angles to get rid of the ball. That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
