Our view: He did not want to reset the running back market, but Barkley did want more than the reported offers indicated. Barkley has yet to sign the franchise tag, which is worth $10.1 million for running backs this season. Barkley is not expected to report for the start of training camp because of his contract situation, according to sources. --------------------------------------------------------------- [DAL - QB Prescott Promises Fewer INTs]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott understands he needs to be safer with the ball after tossing a league-high 15 interceptions in 2022. "I know who I am, and you can go back and take away half of those off drops," Prescott said, via Gabriel Trevino of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I'm not saying it's on the receiver, but if you cut that in half then we start talking about those, nobody is talking about it. . . . Some of it is the offense and them understanding exactly where we are. Mike does an amazing job with those guys. They know where to be, why to be, when they're getting looked at. That's going to be a big jump. I won't have 10 interceptions this year." Our view: Prescott feels better about his turnover ratio because of the work Cowboys' HC Mike McCarthy has done with the receivers on the roster. He only played in 12 games last season, but Prescott tied with Davis Mills for the most interceptions thrown. Interceptions, fumbling, and giveaways in general have plagued Prescott despite him leading an explosive offense when he's healthy. We'll believe him when we see it, just know that if you're drafting Prescott he's likely to ding you for turnovers (if your league penalizes you for such occurrences). --------------------------------------------------------------- [LVR - No long-term deal for Josh Jacobs]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs was unable to reach an agreement on a long-term contract before the league's deadline for franchise-tagged players to do so Monday, July 17. Our view: No surprise here as there were no positive reports coming out of either side before Monday's deadline. Jacobs has yet to sign the franchise tag, which is worth $10.1 million for running backs this season. Now, we'll see if he holds out during training camp. Stay tuned. --------------------------------------------------------------- [KC - WR Moore Top Slot Option?]( Source: Nate Taylor - The Athletic Kansas City Chiefs second-year WR Skyy Moore could be the team's top slot receiving option in 2023 according to Nate Taylor from The Athletic. Our view: Moore has an incredible amount of talent and he flashed briefly as a rookie in 2022. He'll compete for slot duties with free agent Richie James, but Moore should make plays in training camp and the preseason. If you're drafting now, Moore is the perfect late-round pick. If/when Moore shines in the preseason, expect more Fantasy GMs to start looking for him on the back end of drafts. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NFL - Dalvin Cook among most consistent]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Free-agent RB Dalvin Cook (Vikings) is one of two running backs with more than 1,000 rushing yards in each of the past four seasons. Our view: Cook is no doubt a top-tier running back, but right now he doesn't have a team. That could change with training camp less than two weeks away. Don't be surprised if Cook lands with a team like the Dolphins or the Jets to be the featured back. When he gets a new team, Cook should be projected for another 1,000-yard season. --------------------------------------------------------------- [HOU - Rookie QB Stroud Ready to Lead]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com Houston Texans rookie QB C.J. Stroud came in ready to lead according to teammate Laremy Tunsil. "Man, you should have seen how he came in the building," Tunsil said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. "He came in the building already a leader. He voices himself in the huddles. He's one of those guys that's like, 'Yo, I'm going to lead, and y'all just follow me.' That's what we're doing, It's not surprising at all." Our view: The best teacher is experience, and Stroud should start from day one for the Texans. New Texans HC DeMeco Ryans said it was "very eye-opening" how "on it" Stroud was at OTAs earlier this year. His footwork and timing have been praised this offseason, and Stroud may be ahead of where most rookie quarterbacks are at this time. Of course, the pads need to come on in camp and he must back up this strong offseason with solid play in the preseason. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NFL - DeSean Jackson hints at retirement](=) Source: NFL.com - Dov Kleiman Free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Ravens) made a post on Instagram Sunday, July 16, hinting at retirement. Jackson posted 'did it my way 15 years strong!!' Our view: Not many receivers get to 15 years in this league. If he retires, most will remember Jackson from his days with the Eagles where he was one of the league's premiere deep threats. In his younger years, Jackson basically teleported down the field and could run by any coverage. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LVR - Josh Jacobs accomplished rare feat]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs led the league in rushing in 2022 and became the first player since DeMarco Murray in 2014 to finish with at least 1,500 yards and log 400-plus receiving yards in the same season. Our view: Jacobs had career-best numbers in 2022, but combining for those totals again may prove to be difficult. Projecting him for 1,000 yards rushing is a given, but to get to 1,500 yards he'll have to stay healthy and the team will have to stay committed to the run. Fantasy GMs are taking Jacobs off the board as a top-5 to top-10 running back. --------------------------------------------------------------- [DAL - Tony Pollard to play on tag in 2023]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams Dallas Cowboys RB Tony Pollard was unable to reach an agreement on a long-term contract before the league's deadline for franchise-tagged players to do so Monday, July 17. Our view: The two sides were talking before the deadline, and there was a thought something could get done but to no avail. Pollard signed the franchise tag in the spring, which is worth $10.1 million for running backs this season. He's going to be in camp on time, and Pollard is set to hit free agency in 2024. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NE - Two-tight sets expected to be the norm]() Source: Patriots.com - Evan Lazar New England Patriots TEs Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki being on the field together is expected to be a featured component of the offense in 2023, according to Evan Lazar of the team's website. Our view: This is common for Bill Belichick when he has two capable performers at the position. They'll want to run the ball, but they can be multiple when they have 12 personnel (two TEs) out there. That means they can look heavy in 12 personnel, but a player like Gesicki is actually just a big receiver. Henry isn't a bad receiver either, although he's a much better blocker than Gesicki. From a fantasy perspective, both TEs are considered TE2 and mid-range ones at best. --------------------------------------------------------------- [DET - Detroit finalizes Jahmyr Gibbs' rookie contract]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Detroit Lions first-round draft choice RB Jahmyr Gibbs signed a four-year contract Monday, July 17. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, but the contract includes a fifth-year team option. Our view: Gibbs is an "OW" (offensive weapon) who can attack a defense as a runner with big-play ability. He also can line up as a receiver, run routes, and Gibbs creates mismatches every time he's catching passes. He could be their version of Christian McCaffrey. We're not saying he'll produce like McCaffrey has or will, but Fantasy GMs should be quite excited about the rookie's prospects in 2023 and beyond. That'll do it for today, Folks.
