â Inside This Issue âTEN: Tennessee, DeAndre Hopkins agree to deal âNE: Two expected to report early âCLE: Nick Chubb among most explosive âJAX: Evan Engram receives three-year deal âSF: Christian McCaffrey approaching record TB: Baker Mayfield hoping to hang in Tampaâ âLVR: Long-term deal unlikely for Josh Jacobs â â[TEN - Tennessee, DeAndre Hopkins agree to deal](=)â Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Free-agent WR DeAndre Hopkins (Cardinals) agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Tennessee Titans Sunday, July 16, worth $26 million, according to a source. The deal can be worth as much as $32 million with incentives. Our view: Hopkins now steps into the no.1 role for the Titans' passing game. This negatively impacts the fantasy value of WR Treylon Burks who now will be the no.2 receiver opposite of Hopkins. The Titans will run the heck out of the ball, and Hopkins should absorb a lot of the targets when QB Ryan Tannehill goes to the air. In addition to Burks taking a hit, TE Chigoziem Okonkwo (an up-and-coming TE we love) will see a hit to his target share. --------------------------------------------------------------- â[NE - Two expected to report early]()â Source: ESPN.com - Mike Reiss New England Patriots OG Michael Onwenu (ankle) and WR Tyquan Thornton (undisclosed) are expected to report to training camp early to determine if they will need to be placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. Our view: Thornton had some good reports about his upside this offseason, but now we have to see what he can do with this undisclosed injury. He's a speed merchant who can flat-out fly, but Thornton needs to become a better route runner to play up to his potential in the pros. --------------------------------------------------------------- â[CLE - Nick Chubb among most explosive]()â Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb's 5.2 yards per rush since entering the league in 2018 is the best mark in the NFL and the second-best mark in NFL history among players with at least 1,000 rushes. Our view: Chubb is arguably the best back in the league, and you don't need to see the numbers - just turn on the film. He runs with a blend of power, explosiveness, footwork, and vision that few have. Fantasy GMs are drafting him as a RB1 as per usual, and you can (on average) get him in the back half of the first round in your fantasy drafts. --------------------------------------------------------------- â[JAX - Evan Engram receives three-year deal](=)â Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero Jacksonville Jaguars TE Evan Engram agreed to terms on a new three-year contract with the Jaguars Sunday, July 16, worth $41.25 million. The deal includes $24 million in guaranteed money. Our view: Engram had a breakout season in 2022 catching passes from QB Trevor Lawrence. When healthy, Engram can produce like one of the better tight ends in the league. We'll see how his target share is impacted with WR Calvin Ridley coming back from his suspension this year. We see Engram as a low-end TE1 for Fantasy GMs in 2023. --------------------------------------------------------------- â[SF - Christian McCaffrey approaching record]()â Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey has three seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards and 700 receiving yards, trailing only Marshall Faulk for the most in NFL history. Our view: Only three backs in NFL history are part of the 1,000/1,000 club. Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk, and Christian McCaffrey are the only backs to ever had 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. McCaffrey did it for the Panthers back in 2019, and it would not be a surprise if he pushed for those types of numbers as the centerpiece of what the 49ers do in 2023. He's got to stay healthy, but the opportunity is there for him to post great numbers as a runner and receiver (as per usual). --------------------------------------------------------------- â[TB - Baker Mayfield hoping to hang in Tampa]()â Source: CBS Sports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield is hoping to finish his career in Tampa Bay, according to former NFL general manager Rick Spielman. 'He's very confident, but he also understands he's really out to prove he's the Mayfield that was a first overall pick,' Spielman said. Our view: Mayfield is at a crossroads in his career. He flashed a bit with the Rams at the end of last season, and now he's trying to win the starting job for the Buccaneers. His main competition is Tom Brady's former backup Kyle Trask. Consider Mayfield the front-runner in this battle, but training camp and preseason will give us the answer. If Mayfield can be more consistent, then perhaps he'll earn a long-term deal with the Buccaneers as their starter. Mayfield is playing on a one-year, $8.5 million contract in 2023. --------------------------------------------------------------- â[LVR - Long-term deal unlikely for Josh Jacobs]()â Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs appears unlikely to receive a long-term contract before the July 17 deadline because the two sides are still far apart in the negotiations, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal's Vincent Bonsignore. Our view: At the end of last week, reports surfaced how the two sides were far apart. That gap can be made up with Monday's deadline looming, but the rumblings around this situation indicate Jacobs will not get a deal. We'll see after Monday's deadline, but if Jacobs does not get a deal then a holdout into training camp - and perhaps the regular season - could be on the table. That'll do it for today, Folks.
