Our view: Everyone saw this coming, and it was just a matter of time before the Bengals approached Mixon about restructuring his contract. He was scheduled to make more than $9 million this season before agreeing to the reworked deal. Now, there's no need to concern yourself with the "what if" in the Bengals' backfield. Mixon is the lead back, and even though he's not explosive as he used to be, he should wear down opponents and set up play-action opportunities for superstar QB Joe Burrow. We see Mixon as a mid-range RB2 for Fantasy GMs. --------------------------------------------------------------- [WAS - Antonio Gibson hopes to see time at receiver]() Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra Washington Commanders RB Antonio Gibson said he hopes to line up more often at wide receiver this season because he believes he can have more success in the open field. Our view: The Commanders have new OC Eric Bieniemy running the show, and he should craft a versatile and explosive offense in Washington. That's good news for a player like Gibson who is more of an "OW" (offensive weapon) than a true "RB" (running back). He can thrive as a runner, but RB Brian Robinson should get plenty of work to soften up defenses in the middle. Gibson can line up in the slot to run routes or he can catch passes cleanly out of the backfield. With his skill set, it's easy to see Gibson's flex appeal working in a Bieniemy offense. --------------------------------------------------------------- [ARI - Clayton Tune standing out]() Source: 1 No Source Arizona Cardinals QB Clayton Tune has impressed the coaching staff with his command of the offense, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon. 'What I like about him is he's not scared,' said Gannon. 'We've thrown a lot at him to operate the offense the way we want the quarterback position operated, and he's making some good reads.' Our view: The Cardinals have QB Kyler Murray as their starter, but he might not be ready for the start of the regular season. That means veteran QB Colt McCoy is going to be in line to start if/when Murray misses time. Behind McCoy, the Cardinals have three quarterbacks competing for that (temporary) no.2 spot. Tune sounds like the leader in that competition, and he's a developmental no.3 QB when Murray returns to the lineup. We'll keep an eye on Tune (who lit it up in college at Houston) in deep dynasty formats. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LVR - Raiders, Josh Jacobs far apart]() Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Vincent Bonsignore The Las Vegas Raiders and RB Josh Jacobs remain far apart in contract extension talks, the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Vincent Bonsignore wrote on Friday, July 14. Our view: Cue Europe's "Final Countdown" as the deadline to sign franchise-tagged players is on Monday. With limited time remaining, it could prompt both sides into action. However, with the distance that has constantly been reported this offseason, it's difficult to have confidence something will get done. Get your popcorn ready as this could go right down to the wire. --------------------------------------------------------------- [JAX - Evan Engram expected to report]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo Jacksonville Jaguars TE Evan Engram is expected to report to training camp even if he and the team don't reach a long-term deal, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported on Friday, July 14. Our view: Engram had a breakout season with the Jaguars in 2022. He wants a long-term deal, but if he doesn't get one by Monday's deadline then Engram will play out the 2023 season and then hit free agency in 2024. We'll see how much his target share is impacted with WR Calvin Ridley coming back from his suspension for this season. --------------------------------------------------------------- [NYG - Darren Waller elite when healthy]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler New York Giants TE Darren Waller ranks third among tight ends with 280 receptions and 3,394 receiving yards since 2019 despite missing 14 games over the past two seasons. Our view: All Waller has to do is stay healthy, and he's going to produce in a big way. His athleticism makes him difficult to match up with, and the Giants should exploit that early and often. In fact, the most regular story from Giants' camp (besides WRs being banged up) is that Waller could lead the team in targets. That would not surprise us at all, and it's one of the reasons why Fantasy GMs are looking at Waller as a top-5 player at the position. --------------------------------------------------------------- [BAL - Mark Andrews delivers when it counts]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews' 25 receiving touchdowns in the red zone over the past four seasons are tied for the fifth most in the NFL. Our view: Andrews gets it done when the Ravens are near pay dirt, and QB Lamar Jackson loves looking his way in crunch time. The Ravens added more WR talent this year in free agent addition Odell Beckham Jr and first-round pick Zay Flowers. We'll see if those two change the structure of what the Ravens do in the red zone. Also, we're excited about new OC Todd Monken running a less predictable offense as we saw for years under Greg Roman. --------------------------------------------------------------- [PHI - Dallas Goedert a force after the catch]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert's 7.8 yards after catch per reception in 2022 ranked first among tight ends. Our view: Goedert is one of the premiere tight end weapons in the league, and that after-the-catch ability is one of the reasons why. This year as QB Jalen Hurts continues to grow as a passer (he hasn't peaked in that department), Goedert should remain a favorite target to move the chains or find in the red zone. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LAR - Nikola Kalinic joins Rams]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams Free-agent TE Nikola Kalinic (Colts) signed with the Los Angeles Rams Friday, July 14. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Our view: A 2019 second-round pick (CFL draft) out of York, Kalinic played a couple of seasons for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Last year, he spent most of the season on the Colts practice squad, but he did start a couple of games at the end of the 2022 season where he didn't catch a pass and played mostly on special teams. Released back in May, Kalinic now finds himself competing for a spot on the Rams' roster. In crazy deep dynasty formats, we'll keep an eye on the Canadian prospect. That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
