We've got a ton of sweet new content for you including must-read features on two players that will impact a ton of championships this year: Cooper Kupp and Anthony Richardson. Don't miss them. Plus IDP goodness and New York Jets vibes. And as always, our Cecil Lammey has the news and notes. And one thing I want to tell you about. I've always tried to run this thing being as upfront as I can with you. This is one of those times where I'm doing that, and I've got some bad news. Greg Ambrosius of the NFFC and I made the decision today to cancel the Footballguys Championship Contest. Everyone who purchased a team will be fully refunded. The reason is we simply were not getting the traction we felt we needed by this time. It's certainly early, but the repercussions of going into mid or late July while lagging were too much to risk. We can cancel the contest now, fully refund folks and more easily move forward. It's the right thing to do for our customers and honor their trust. And I think it's the right thing to do for Footballguys. A few points: Canceling now is embarrassing for me. And will surely give detractors something to crow about. It is what it is. Our relationship with NFFC is as strong as ever. In fact, my friendship with Greg made this possible. It was Greg's concern that prompted this. I appreciate his concern for us in this and his guidance. We'll continue to work closely with NFFC in all areas. This particular project may have failed, but the relationship with NFFC is strong, and I believe will continue to be beneficial. I couldn't more strongly recommend the NFFC contests; they're hands down the places to play mid- and high-stakes fantasy football, in my opinion. The [Rotowire $350 entry fee contest]() is very similar to the Footballguys Championship, and for anyone considering a mid-stakes contest, that's where I'd play. And for higher stakes contests, their [Primetime event]() is awesome. It's the best place to play for High Stakes, in my opinion. Failure happens sometimes. I think one of the key questions in life is finding that balance between knowing when it's time to pivot and move to something else vs. when it's time to keep pushing forward when it's difficult. This is one of those times. It's the old Kenny Rogers, "You have to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em." I don't know that I'm right, of course. But I feel at peace with this, and it feels like the right thing. Mostly it's about using resources wisely. I'm convinced we have the best Staff in Fantasy Sports. They're awesome. We have a strong business that allows us to do many things. We have momentum, a track record, and a large and loyal customer base. We're blessed with resources. BUT, they are finite. We all have only so much time and energy. One of my most important jobs is helping us focus those resources on the most productive things. And it just increasingly felt like the cost of the effort needed to make the contest successful wasn't worth the benefit. So that's where we are. I'm bummed and, as I said, a bit embarrassed. I don't enjoy giving people who said I'd fail at this the opportunity to be right. But that's of zero weight and has none of my attention. My focus is on our core business of providing our customers with killer fantasy football information and helping them win their league. And selling a ton of premium subscriptions. And that's what I want our focus to be. Like most things, it all comes back to the Godfather. ;) This is business, not personal. I have to take my ego and pride completely out of the equation. I apologize if this causes you any inconvenience. And we'll work as hard as we possibly can to bring you value this season. Let's Go. [SF - WR Aiyuk 'About to Take Off']() Source: Briana McDonald - 49ers.com San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk feels like the best is yet to come per 49ers.com reporter Briana McDonald. "I'm about to take off," Aiyuk said during the team's offseason programming. "That's it. Nothing is guaranteed, but just getting a better understanding for my life as a person, and as a football player, and putting those two together, and then looking to get better. I feel like having another offseason being on top, being able to get out here another spring, working on my craft, I see it." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Aiyuk had a breakout season in 2022, catching 78 passes for 1,015 yards and eight receiving touchdowns. He's been in and out of HC Kyle Shanahan's doghouse, but if he's not it's clear Aiyuk can produce at a high level. Fantasy GMs see him as a low-end WR2 or flex option, so he could outperform his ADP if he does 'take off' in 2023. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CAR - WR Thielen to Lead in Receptions?](=) Source: Darin Gantt - Panthers.com In a recent NFL on NBC interview, Panthers.com's Darin Gantt suggested veteran WR Adam Thielen will lead the Carolina Panthers in receptions in 2023. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gantt is one of the best team reporters out there, so we are certainly listening to what he's saying about Thielen. It just makes sense - and for many reasons. Thielen can be a security blanket for rookie QB Bryce Young, and he's going to get open consistently. Young is a brilliant passer, and his favorite target is the open guy - which could be Thielen early and often. Fantasy GMs see Theilen as a depth receiver, but in PPR formats his value gets an uptick based on his projected usage. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [HOU - WR Collins a Favorite for QB Stroud]() Source: DJ Bien-Aime - ESPN.com Houston Texans third-year WR Nico Collins has been rookie QB C.J. Stroud's "favorite target" so far in offseason practices according to ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We love this type of report. Collins is a huge target who can win regularly in contested catch situations. Stroud is not afraid to challenge a defense, and throwing to a guy like Collins should give the rookie plenty of confidence. With his size, and potential target share, Collins should outperform his current ADP (if healthy) as Fantasy GMs see him as a WR4/WR5. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [SF - WR Bell Can Fit Anywhere]() Source: Briana McDonald - 49ers.com San Francisco 49ers rookie WR Ronnie Bell can fit anywhere according to HC Kyle Shanahan. "He was just so consistent," Shanahan said. "A special teams player and a good returner. He did really everything they asked. He was very good in his routes. There was not one thing that he struggled with. When you can put him into a group, and whatever his skill set is, I think he can fit into any position and he seemed like one of the more reliable wideouts that we watched in all of college football." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bell has long arms (think former Dolphins WR Chris Chambers) and that allows him to play bigger than his size. He's a good deep-ball receiver who has late hands and tracks the ball with accuracy over his shoulder. Bell can make tough catches in traffic because he has to as separation is not his strong suit. The rookie can line up all over the field, and that's something Shanahan covets. We'll monitor the seventh-round pick in super deep dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [HOU - WR Dell Getting Open A Lot]() Source: DJ Bien-Aime - ESPN.com Houston Texans head coach Demeco Ryans has been impressed this offseason with third-round rookie WR Nathaniel 'Tank' Dell. "Tank' Dell comes in, providing his route-running ability," Ryans said. "He's been open a lot in OTAs. So that's exciting." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Dell was hyper-productive in college at Houston, catching 29 touchdowns and over 2,700 receiving yards over the last two seasons. He's incredibly quick and can make defenders miss in tight spaces. Dell is a playmaker, but he's also small (about 165 pounds) and some in the scouting community have compared him to former Rams WR Tavon Austin. We'll see if Dell can play up to the potential he showed in college. [DET - Jared Goff cozy at home in 2022]() Source: ProFootballReference.com Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff finished 210-of-319 (65.8 percent) for 2,472 yards and 23 touchdowns with three interceptions (109.3 quarterback rating) in nine home games during the 2022 season. By contrast, he finished 172-of-268 (64.18 percent) for 1,966 yards, six TDs and four interceptions (87.4 quarterback rating) in eight road contests. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There's nothing like home cooking. Goff has more weapons around him, and expectations are high for the Lions in what seems like forever. From a fantasy perspective, when Goff has his full array of weapons, the veteran quarterback is a QB2 with upside to be a QB1 in 2023. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [BUF - WR Sherfield Got First-Team Reps]() Source: Nick Wojton - USAToday.com Buffalo Bills WR Trent Sherfield got some run with the first-team offense during spring practices when WR Stefon Diggs did not report to minicamp per Nick Wojton from USAToday.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Another day, and another positive story about Sherfield. This is one of the most consistent drumbeats of the entire offseason. Sherfield has been a favorite target for QB Josh Allen throughout OTAs. Diggs was out of action for voluntary work, so it remains to be seen if Sherfield can keep working his way into the mix during training camp. Diggs and Gabe Davis are the top two wide receivers for Buffalo, so Sherfield is going to compete with guys like Khalil Shakir and Deonte Harty to establish a pecking order. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [MIN - Kirk Cousins leaned on play-action in 2022](=) Source: ProFootballReference.com Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins led the league with 191 pass attempts off play-action in 2022, according to Pro Football Reference. He ranked fifth in play-action passing yards with 1,283. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's the system, and that's what Cousins can do best. The Vikings won a lot of games last year, and they came through in close contests. They're running it back with Cousins in 2023 to see if they can push beyond one-and-done in the playoffs. Cousins is a low-end QB1 for Fantasy GMs and a set-it-and-forget-it starter if you miss out on the big producers at the position. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [100% Deposit Match Up To $100 At Underdog Fantasy]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [PHI - Jalen Hurts relied heavy on play fakes in 2022](=) Source: ProFootballReference.com Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts executed a play-action or RPO (run-pass option) pass attempt on 55.4 percent of his pass attempts in 2022, according to Pro Football Reference. Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (57.5 percent) was the only other quarterback in the league with at least 25 pass attempts to record a higher percentage. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hurts is a fine passer, but his legs make him a problem - a big problem - for defenders out there. The Eagles did a great job of featuring that part of his game with the RPO and play-action game. Hurts took a huge leap as a passer last year and should stay at the top of his game in 2023. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [MIA - Play-action a big part of Tua Tagovailoa's game](=) Source: ProFootballReference.com Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa attempted a play-action pass on 39.8 percent of his attempts in 2022 - a mark that was by far the most of any quarterback in the league that attempted at least 150 passes. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mike McDaniel has a system that's going to set things up with the ground game. It's all about influence in the Shanahan offense, and defenders are moved into position with the play-action game. Expect more of the same from Tagovailoa in 2023 and beyond.
