[NE - Parker extension shouldn't enhance or limit pursuit of Hopkins](#5) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [CAR - Jonathan Mingo impressing head coach]( Source: The Athletic - Joe Person Carolina Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo was a standout during spring practices, according to head coach Frank Reich. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mingo could assert himself quickly in a wide open battle for targets between him, D.J. Chark, who is recovering from offseason foot/ankle surgery, Adam Thielen, who was jettisoned by the Vikings, and Terrace Marshall, the 2021 second round pick who started to break out after Matt Rhule was fired last year. All of these players are available outside of the top 100 of drafts. #1 overall pick Bryce Young is more advanced as a passer than a typical rookie, so targeting your favorite Panthers receiver is a good strategy. We'll be monitoring this situation closely when camp opens later this month. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CAR - Shi Smith on the bubble?]( Source: The Athletic - Joe Person Carolina Panthers WR Shi Smith may have to win the punt returner job in order to make the roster, according to Joe Person of The Athletic. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Marquez Stevenson and Damiere Byrd will be Smith's main competition for the punt returner and WR6 job (assuming Laviska Shenault is the WR5 behind Terrace Marshall, Adam Thielen, Jonathan Mingo, and D.J. Chark, who will sort out the WR1-4 pecking order in camp and preseason). [CAR - Terrace Marshall moved the chains]( Source: The Athletic - Joe Person Carolina Panthers WR Terrace Marshall Jr. recorded first downs on 24 of his 28 receptions in 2022 while averaging 17.5 yards per reception. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] More importantly, almost all of Marshall's production last year came after Matt Rhule was fired. It's possible that the slow start to his career was more due to injuries and being in Rhule's doghouse than being a second-round bust. He has the talent to emerge as a trusted target for Bryce Young, but Marshall is still available as a very late round pick. That could change if he makes noise early in training camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [KC - Toney first in target rate among receivers on rookie contracts](=) Source: The Athletic - Diante Lee Diante Lee, of The Athletic, wrote that Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney is "first in target rate of all players on rookie contracts and top 20 in conversion rate, explosive gains and EPA per target against man coverage", although he clarifies that Toney didn't have very many snaps in New York compared to his peers. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lee adds he "wouldn't be shocked if he had a major breakout in his first full season as a high-usage player". Toney hasn't come close to fulfilling his potential as a former first-round pick, but he should have every opportunity to in a young Chiefs wide receiver group. He easily has Top 15-20 fantasy receiver upside playing with Patrick Mahomes, but skepticism about his ability to stay on the field has kept him at WR38 in early Underdog drafts. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [100% Deposit Match Up To $100 At Underdog Fantasy]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [NE - Parker extension shouldn't enhance or limit pursuit of Hopkins]( Source: ESPN - Mike Reiss Mike Reiss, of ESPN, reports that the contract extension for WR DeVante Parker shouldn't "enhance or limit" the pursuit of free agent DeAndre Hopkins. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Some wondered if the extension helped the pursuit of Hopkins by opening up cap room, but most New England beat writers think that wasn't a big consideration in making the deal with Parker (and the extension for Ja'Whuan Bentley) wasn't done with that goal in mind. When the Patriots had Hopkins in for a visit, Parker's roster spot seemed to be in danger, but now Kendrick Bourne is the receiver who is potentially on the chopping block if Hopkins is signed.
