[NE - Pierre Strong in for big role?]() Source: Patriots.com - Evan Lazar New England Patriots RB Pierre Strong has been earmarked for the role RB James White had with the team in the receiving and third-down areas. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is an important piece of news to keep track of during training camp. The Patriots have RB Rhamondre Stevenson to do the heavy lifting as a runner - and he's a good option as a receiver out of the backfield. However, Strong brings more explosion to the field and can create mismatches against linebackers tasked with covering him. We like adding strong as a late-round flier in PPR formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NFL - Several teams giving some thought to Marcedes Lewis]() Source: FOX Sports Free-agent TE Marcedes Lewis (Packers) recently told FOX Sports that his agent 'is in talks with a handful of teams, but it is just small talk.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lewis is a seasoned veteran who can contribute as a blocker and as a receiver. There was buzz that Jets QB Aaron Rodgers had a wishlist of players to add which included Lewis. When training camp gets here, we'll see if Lewis can land on a roster. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NFL - Malachi Wideman to enter draft](=) Source: KPRC.com - Aaron Wilson Jackson State WR Malachi Wideman will enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, which will be held July 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wideman finished his college career at Jackson State, playing for Deion Sanders, but he began is career at the University of Tennessee. He was a highly touted football recruit, but he was also getting as much interest (four-star recruit) in basketball. He's a big-bodied wide receiver who had 12 touchdown grabs in 2021. Wideman knows how to use his frame to box out smaller defenders, and his large catch radius makes it tough for defenders to fight through. We'll see if some team is interested in using a pick on him in the Supplemental Draft next month. [SF - Brock Purdy to work with QB coach]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) is reportedly en route to Jacksonville to throw with quarterback coach Will Hewlett for the next couple of weeks and meet with orthopedic specialist Tom Gormely, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Things are going on plan for Purdy this offseason. He avoided Tommy John surgery, but he did have some hardware installed into his damaged elbow. The team has been easing him back into action this offseason with a plan that he'd be ready for the start of training camp and the regular season. It looks like Trey Lance and Sam Darnold will battle for the primary backup job. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [DET - Hendon Hooker likely to open on NFI]( Source: LionsWire - Jeff Risdon Updating previous reports, Detroit Lions QB Hendon Hooker (knee) is likely to start the season on the Non-Football Injury list. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hooker had first-round talent, but the Tennessee quarterback fell in the draft due to the knee injury he suffered last year. He's been on the road to recovery for some time, but even after he was drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft we thought this year would be a redshirt season for him. Hooker could be the quarterback of the future for the Lions if he gets healthy, stays healthy, and plays up to his potential. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [100% Deposit Match Up To $100 At Underdog Fantasy]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [NFL - Milton Wright cleared for supplemental draft]() Source: KPRC.com - Aaron Wilson Confirming a previous report, Purdue WR Milton Wright's eligibility for the supplemental draft on July 11 was approved Monday, June 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wright was academically ineligible in 2022, but in 2021 with the Boilermakers he made plays as the no.3 option at the receiver position behind current NFL wideouts Rondale Moore and David Bell. He's an explosive player with a good size/speed combination. While limited in his route tree in college, Wright did display soft hands and concentration to bring in contested catches. We'll see if someone takes a chance on him with a pick in the Supplemental Draft next month. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
