I hope you have a second to pull up a chair and join us for a second. We've got sweet content today as the Footballguys Staff dives into tight ends we're worried about at their current draft position. Plus some IDP info. And as always, our Sigmund Bloom has the News and Notes. But can I be real for a second and say something non-football? It's been a sad week in the news with the losses of the hundreds of refugees in the Mediterranean and then the Titanic submersible. I heard a friend say they suck at talking to grieving people, and they don't know what to say. I have some thoughts on this. First off, everyone sucks at talking to grieving people. Because there is no "magic" thing we can say that'll make everything fine. Or better. None of us know what to say. I've found, without question, the best thing to say is simply, "I'm sorry." I don't add much more to it. I don't say "for your loss," as that's obvious. I don't say I know what it feels like because I'm pretty sure I don't. I don't compare it to anything else. I don't mention it could have been worse. My faith is something very important to me but I don't talk about that because I have no idea how they're feeling about this as it relates to their feelings there. And I don't ever ever ever mention about looking to the "bright side" of anything. I just sit with them. And be there. And do what it takes to let them know I'm with them. As someone who's lost a younger brother and a mother, I promise you that's the best thing you can do for people. Rock on. Peace and Grace to you. In this one, they look at the tight ends they see as overvalued. C. [IDP Talk - Should You Fade Demario Davis in 2023?]( Matt Montgomery takes a weekly look at a defensive player you should likely avoid in 2023. [] INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1. [ATL - Cordarrelle Patterson back to receiving role](#8) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [NFL - Two offers for DeAndre Hopkins](=) Source: MassLive.com - Chris Mason Free-agent WR DeAndre Hopkins (Cardinals) has received contract offers from the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots, according to ESPN's Dianna Russini. Hopkins' representatives are hoping more teams show interest in him before he decides to sign with a team. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] In other words, Hopkins isn't finding the market he was hoping for. It's hard to picture a team that didn't want to have him visit in the first week ponying up a better offer than Tennessee or New England. He would be a #1 receiver in either offense, but the somewhat soft market for his services could portend the beginning of a decline. His current ADP is around the fourth round, and probably won't rise if he lands in either of these places. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NFL - Kareem Hunt waiting for new deal]( Source: NFL.com - Nick Shook Free-agent RB Kareem Hunt (Browns) said he has been training this offseason and is being patient in terms of his next contract. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hunt doesn't really have a choice but to be patient. The running back market has crashed and Hunt didn't play well enough last year to make him a must add. He could be waiting for a team to suffer an injury in the backfield or just become dissatisfied with what they have once they see it in camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NYJ - Small role for Michael Carter?](=) Source: The Athletic - Zack Rosenblatt New York Jets RB Michael Carter role will likely 'shrink as the season progresses' as RB Breece Hall (knee) returns to full strength. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Carter's path to early down work is blocked by fifth round pick (and outstanding zone runner) Israel Abanikanda, so his value is questionable even if Hall is slow to get back up to speed. His dynasty value is hanging by a thread. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [LAR - Tutu Atwell to be more involved]( Source: FOX Sports - Eric D. Williams Los Angeles Rams WR Tutu Atwell was 'outstanding' during offseason practices and is 'going to have a role for us (because of) his ability to move around,' head coach Sean McVay said recently.'Tutu Atwell has been outstanding. He's been a real bright spot, very comfortable. ... He's a guy that's going to have a role for us (because of) his ability to move around and make sure that we don't have to have certain guys play every single snap. ... He's a nice complement to some of the other guys that we have, and so I'm really pleased with what he's done,' McVay told reporters during offseason work. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The top two receivers for the Rams will be Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson, but the #3 job is up for grabs. Fifth round pick Puka Nacua has generated a lot of buzz, but Atwell is a former second round pick and has more speed and game-breaking ability. We'll be watching to see how this depth chart shakes out. [PIT - Keeanu Benton signs rookie deal](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Pittsburgh Steelers second-round pick DT Keeanu Benton signed his rookie four-year contract Friday, June 23. The deal includes guaranteed money in the third year, which is the first time ever for pick No. 49. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Benton is an outstanding fit in the front of the Steelers 3-4 defense and should help them recover from the loss of Stephon Tuitt and Javon Hargrave in recent years. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [BUF - James Cook has big plans for 2023](=) Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Myles Simmons Buffalo Bills RB James Cook believes he will be 'obviously RB1' when he was asked about what his role would be in 2023 on The Rich Eisen Show recently.'Just come in and do what I do. Change the game with my versatility. Catching the ball out of the backfield. Pass blocking. Just try to do what I can do to help the team win games and ultimately win the Super Bowl. I'm ready to work. This is a big step and a goal that I wanted to accomplish in the NFL. Just do what I can do to help the team win games,' Cook said, via Ryan Talbot of NYUp.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Cook should be a lot more involved in year two even though the team added Damien Harris and Latavius Murray in free agency. He has the ability to add value in the passing game and make explosive plays in this top-end offense. [LAR - Stetson Bennett gets rookie deal done]( Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates Los Angeles Rams fourth-round draft choice QB Stetson Bennett (Georgia) signed a four-year contract Thursday, June 22. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If Matthew Stafford can't stay healthy, or if the Rams fall out of the playoff race before Christmas, we could see Bennett start for the Rams and audition to be their long term quarterback. He's a Matt Waldman favorite, and Peter King called Bennett the "the private passion player" of general manager Les Snead. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [ATL - Cordarrelle Patterson back to receiving role]( Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Tori McElhaney Atlanta Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson is expected to shift back into more of a receiving role at the position in 2023. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Patterson's fantasy value will be down greatly from last year, but he could play a role that highlights his unique slash qualities. Fantasy teams won't benefit from Patterson much this season, but the Falcons should still make him part of the game plan.
