[DAL - No plans to sign backup RB]() Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer Despite working out RB [Ronnie Hillman](=) and RB [Denard Robinson](=), the Dallas Cowboys do not plan on signing either back 'at this time.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] For those of us who were using these tryouts to read the tea leaves for an Ezekiel Elliott suspension, take this how you will. Who knows what the Cowboys know or don't know. But they clearly didn't feel signing HIllman or Robinson right now was worthwhile. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [ARI - QB Carson Palmer will not play in HOF game]( Source: 98.7 Arizona - Mike Jurecki Arizona Cardinals QB [Carson Palmer](=) will be held out of the Hall-of-Fame game on Thursday, August 3, against the Dallas Cowboys in Canton, Ohio. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No surprise here. Palmer's a veteran and won't miss the few reps he might have seen here. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [LAC - RB Melvin Gordon stayed busy in 2016]( Source: ProFootballReference.com Los Angeles Chargers RB [Melvin Gordon](=) accepted 213 of the 234 carries handed out to running backs from Week 3 through 13 after [Danny Woodhead](=) was lost for the season in Week 2 and before Gordon got hurt early in Week 14. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] And we see more of the same for this year. Gordon is currently our RB5 and we're excited for his opportunity with the Chargers. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [SF - Joe Williams pushing for playing time](=) Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers RB Joe Williams has 'put himself into a position to compete for a significant role' heading into training camp, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There has been a steady trickle of takes that seem to put Carlos Hyde's supremacy in the backfield in question, even before the draft. San Francisco's running back position will be one of the most interesting to watch in training camps this year, with Williams as the hand-picked new regime back and Hyde as the incumbent and talented if frequently banged up returning back. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [BUF - RB LeSean McCoy doesn't plan to slow down](=) Source: The Buffalo News - Jay Skurski Buffalo Bills RB [LeSean McCoy](=) said he still feels young and owes his longevity to his ability to avoid big hits. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McCoy looked like he was slowing down in his last year with Chip Kelly in Philadelphia, but he has been keying one of the best running games in the league the last two years in Buffalo. He's a solid late first-round pick in drafts. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [SF - WR Bruce Ellington has something to prove](=) Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers WR [Bruce Ellington](=) must stay healthy and prove himself to the new coaching staff in order to earn a role in the offense, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ellington has a higher ceiling than presumptive starting slot wideout Jeremy Kerley, but rookie fifth-round pick Trent Taylor is also a promising young slot receiver and could take Ellington's roster spot if he can't stay healthy this summer. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [SF - WR Marquise Goodwin in line to start](=) Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers WR [Marquise Goodwin](=) is expected to be the No. 2 receiver this season, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The 49ers wide receiver group is a work in progress with only Pierre Garcon entrenched as the #1. Aldrick Robinson will play a role along with Goodwin as a field stretcher, and Jeremy Kerley is the favorite in the slot. There should be a decent amount of production to spread around in an offense that will be playing from behind a lot with a high volume passer at the helm in Brian Hoyer. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [ARI - RB Chris Johnson will have a role]( Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban Arizona Cardinals RB [Chris Johnson](=) will be on the field at the same time as RB [David Johnson](=) on occasion, head coach Bruce Arians said Friday, July 21. 'We've had it in the plan every year and one of the two always gets hurt all the damn time,' Arians said. 'But we'll have some two-back stuff with he and David back there' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Johnson is set up as a clear handcuff to David Johnson, although he's not the same receiving back that he used to be. Kerwynn Williams was strong in limited duty last year and would play a role if the starter went down. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [NO - Two Saints LBs may compete for one spot]() Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett New Orleans Saints LBs Manti Te'o and Stephone Anthony may compete for one roster spot during training camp if all of the linebackers stay healthy during the preseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Mike Triplett. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Both were highly drafted and once considered future stars, but Te'o and Anthony are now struggling just to stay on a roster. It might be time to move on in dynasty IDP leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater may start season on PUP list]( Source: ESPN.com - Ben Goessling Minnesota Vikings QB [Teddy Bridgewater](=) (knee) likely will start the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Ben Goessling. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We've been saying this for weeks. Not only do they want to be super cautious with the future of their franchise, there's a monetary aspect to this. They are unlikely to keep Sam Bradford around due to the massive cap hit he represents next year, and if Bridgewater does not play this season they can preserve the fifth year of his contract. That gives them another year at a cheap price and more time to build up the offense of line and the rest of the offense to help Bridgewater out.
