[MIN - Contract Detalis to Work on with WR Thielen](#11) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [KC - No cause for concern with RB Jerick McKinnon]( Source: NFL Network - James Palmer Kansas City Chiefs RB [Jerick McKinnon](=) (ankles) is reportedly 'completely healthy' and was added to the injury report Wednesday, Feb. 9, as a formality because he was receiving some treatment on his ankles, according to James Palmer of NFL Network. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McKinnon is dangerous with the ball in his hands, and the Chiefs will put him in a position to make plays in the Super Bowl. McKinnon's playing time could get cut slightly with the possible return of RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [KC - WR Kadarius Toney trending in right direction]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper Kansas City Chiefs WR [Kadarius Toney](=) (ankle, hamstring) did 'everything that was planned for him to do' and was 'running around like crazy' during practice Wednesday, Feb. 8, according to head coach Andy Reid. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Toney is dangerous but oft-injured, so the Chiefs have had a plan to monitor his health as they prepare for the Super Bowl. Per Reid, the team will remain cautious with his outlook until the team finishes practice Thursday, Feb. 9. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [SF - Purdy's Job to Lose?]( Source: Voncast - Bleacher Report San Francisco 49ers' TE [George Kittle](=) was interviewed on the "Voncast" by Von Miller when he stated that the quarterback job was [Brock Purdy](=)'s to lose in 2023. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That sounds about right based on the way that Purdy played. It also sounds about right based on the way Lance played in 2022. He wasn't out there long before getting hurt, but Lance did not look polished. Purdy, who does not have the physical talent of Lance, led the 49ers deep into the postseason and showed the game was not too big for him. We'll see these two battle it out in training camp for the starting job. Also, George Kittle does not make this decision of course. But it's interesting from a locker room angle. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [BAL - QB Lamar Jackson to see exclusive tag?]( Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent QB [Lamar Jackson](=) is likely to receive the exclusive franchise tag, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Reports have indicated Jackson and the Ravens may be around $100 million apart in terms of how much guaranteed money will be in the deal. That means we're looking at a tag for Jackson, and reports further indicate that Jackson would not quickly sign that tag. A tag and trade is a possibility, or we could see this contract situation drag out until mid-July if the two sides can't come together. Until it's over, this is a massive situation to monitor during the offseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [NFL - J.J. Watt not interested in coaching](=) Source: Houston Chronicle - Matt Young Recently retired DE J.J. Watt (Cardinals) reportedly has no interest in becoming a full-time coach anytime soon, according to Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] With Demeco Ryans hired as the new head coach of the Texans, some have speculated that Watt would want to go back to Houston and coach. That's not the case, but Watt did say that he could "pop in and talk to the boys" if asked. For now, Watt is going to enjoy his retirement but eventually could wind up on TV or as a coach. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [CIN - WR Tee Higgins not interested in leaving Cincinnati](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Cincinnati Bengals WR [Tee Higgins](=) told NFL Media's Ian Rapoport that he plans on remaining with the team 'for a while' despite recent speculation that may be traded this offseason. Higgins is scheduled to become a free agent in 2024. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Higgins is doing what most free agents do in stating that he never wants to leave, but this is the NFL and change is constant. We understand why he'd never want to leave, because of QB Joe Burrow and that offense. However, money talks, and Higgins is in line for a big payday this offseason. Earlier reports also suggest the Bengals could trade Higgins for a top draft pick if contract extension numbers are "outrageous and it's clear the two sides won't see eye to eye." [CHI - TE Kmet In Line for Extension](=) Source: Adam Jahns - The Athletic Adam Jahns, from The Athletic, reports Chicago Bears TE [Cole Kmet](=) has a good chance of earning a contract extension this offseason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bears GM Ryan Poles has praised Kmet as one of their 'blue chip' players, and he may get a new contract even though he's got one year left on his deal. A clear favorite of QB Justin Fields, the team might want to lock Kmet down before his price goes up with another strong year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [SF - Mike McGlinchey hoping to stay put](=) Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Eric Branch San Francisco 49ers OT Mike McGlinchey, who is set to reach free agency next month, reportedly hopes to re-sign with the team this offseason.'It's hard to ever want to leave this place. I've seen people do it and be heartbroken about it later on,' McGlinchey told reporters last week. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Earlier reports have said this as well, so McGlinchey is putting it out there (as most do) that he wants to stay. However, he's also said he's not going to be an idiot when it comes to money. McGlinchey has been a cornerstone of the 49ers' offensive line for years, but he might be playing elsewhere (Denver?) in 2023. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [NO - QB Derek Carr visits New Orleans again](=) Source: NewOrleans.Football - Nick Underhill Las Vegas Raiders QB [Derek Carr](=) was back at the New Orleans Saints' facility on Thursday, Feb. 9, for his second day of visiting with the team. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It sounds like things might be getting serious. Carr and the Saints wrapped up their first visit late Wednesday night. Now, another visit on Thursday. Carr was given permission by the Raiders to explore trade options for teams that would meet their asking price. It sounds like the Saints might be that team. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [LVR - RB Josh Jacobs could play on franchise tag](=) Source: NBC - Chris Simms Las Vegas Raiders RB [Josh Jacobs](=), who is set to reach free agency next month, told Pro Football Talk on Thursday, Feb. 9, that he would be willing to play on the franchise tag in 2023 'if the team loaded up at all other positions and added players around him.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The franchise tag for running backs would cost just over $10 million for one season. After leading the league in rushing in 2022, Jacobs can expect a big contract from the Raiders...or any other team that wants to show interest if he makes it to the open market. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [MIN - Contract Detalis to Work on with WR Thielen](=) Source: Kevin Seifert - ESPN.com Kevin Seifert, from ESPN.com, reports the Minnesota Vikings and WR [Adam Thielen](=) are "working through some stuff" related to his high cap hit and a mid-March deadline when his $11.8M base salary fully guarantees. "They're going to try to do something, but we'll see." Thielen said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Vikings are around $23 million over the cap entering the offseason, so some salary cap gymnastics will have to take place. Thielen could be a post-June 1 cut (designated as such) which would save the Vikings $13.4 million on the cap. We'll see if they can rework his number to get him to stick around in 2023.
