[KC - QB Patrick Mahomes avoids setback](=) Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher Kansas City Chiefs QB [Patrick Mahomes](=) (ankle) told reporters Thursday, Feb. 2, he was able to avoid an aggravation of his high-ankle sprain in the AFC Championship versus the Cincinnati Bengals. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Great news for the Chiefs here. Mahomes battled through an injury that would knock most players out for at least a couple of weeks. We're certain the team will take it easy on him as they go through two weeks of preparation for the Super Bowl. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [MIA - Vic Fangio officially joining Miami]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Updating a previous report, Vic Fangio has decided to join the Miami Dolphins as their defensive coordinator and is expected to accept the position following Super Bowl LVII, according to a source Thursday, Feb. 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This report was out there about a week ago, then it seemed like Fangio may go somewhere else. Now, he's back and ready to get back into coaching. An average-at-best head coach of the Broncos, Fangio is a fantastic defensive coordinator. Nearly half the league runs the concepts he made popular with the Bears and the Broncos. Now, Fangio gets to craft a strong defense in Miami - and there is no doubt that should happen. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [KC - KC hopeful to get two WRs back for Super Bowl](=) Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher Kansas City Chiefs WRs [JuJu Smith-Schuster](=) (knee) and [Kadarius Toney](=) (ankle) appear likely to play in Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to comments from head coach Andy Reid on Thursday, Feb. 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Reid said that WR Mecole Hardman is unlikely to play in the Super Bowl. That means more of Toney if he's able to play through this ankle injury. We'll see Toney's status (and Smith-Schuster's) updated next week during practice. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [KC - WR Mecole Hardman unlikely to play in Super Bowl]( Source: The Kansas City Star - Sam McDowell Kansas City Chiefs WR [Mecole Hardman](=) (pelvis) is not expected to play in Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to comments from head coach Andy Reid on Thursday, Feb. 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bad news for Hardman as he fought to get back for the postseason, but he was only able to make an appearance in the AFC Championship Game. During that contest, Hardman was targeted three times and had two catches for 10 yards before exiting after reaggravating his injury. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [CIN - WR Higgins Could be Traded?](=) Source: Paul Dehner Jr. - The Athletic Paul Dehner Jr, from The Athletic, believes the Cincinnati Bengals could trade WR [Tee Higgins](=) for a top draft pick if contract extension numbers are "outrageous and it's clear the two sides won't see eye to eye." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There are huge paydays coming in the near future for QB Joe Burrow and WR Ja'Marr Chase. The Bengals may not have the money to pay Higgins in this plan as well. If the two sides are off the mark, the Bengals could see what they'd get in return for Higgins. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [WAS - Anthony Lynn follows up with WAS](=) Source: CBS Sports HQ - Josina Anderson San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach/running backs coach Anthony Lynn had a follow-up conversation with the Washington Commanders Wednesday, Feb. 1, to gauge if there's mutual interest. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lynn has gotten interviewed by the Commanders already, and a quick follow-up conversation means that must have gone well. He's one of the most conservative playcallers in the league, and Lynn's offenses have emphasized the run early and often. Expect the Commanders to run the heck out of the ball if/when Lynn is hired as their OC. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [ATL - Ridder May Not Be Seen as Future]( Source: Josh Kendall - The Athletic Josh Kendall, from The Athletic, reports it is not known if the Falcons will stick with QB [Desmond Ridder](=) as their starting quarterback because "no one inside the building is talking." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ridder was an interesting third-round pick for the Falcons in the 2022 NFL draft. While some felt he should have been a first-round pick, that always seemed like folly. Ridder has natural talent, which is easy to see, but he needs to be better under duress. We'll see if he can speed up his processor as he continues to develop his pro game. The Falcons should release QB Marcus Mariota and look for a veteran to sign who will compete with Ridder in training camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [MIN - MIN wants Ejiro Evero](=) Source: ESPN.com - Kevin Seifert Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero has the Minnesota Vikings' interest for their defensive coordinator spot. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Nobody knows if Evero is going to stay with the Broncos at this time. Denver has hired Sean Payton as their head coach, and he's set to sit down with Evero to discuss his future. Evero's defense was pretty much the lone bright spot for the Broncos in 2022, and his best friend Nathaniel Hackett didn't get anything done with the offense. Most believe Evero is on the fast track to being a head coach in the future, but he may want a fresh start away from Denver. [LAC - Role Developed for RB Kelley]( Source: Eric Smith - Chargers.com Eric Smith, from Chargers.com, reports new Los Angeles Chargers OC Kellen Moore thinks a role started to develop for RB [Joshua Kelley](=) in 2022. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] With Moore running the show on offense in 2023, we might see Kelley get a larger backup role behind starter Austin Ekeler. Kelley will have to compete in training camp for the no.2 job with Isaiah Spiller. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [ATL - Releasing QB Marcus Mariota?]( Source: Josh Kendall - The Athletic Josh Kendall, from the Athletic, reports the Atlanta Falcons could release QB [Marcus Mariota](=) before June 1 to save $12 million in cap space. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It feels like a matter of "when" and not a matter of "if" for the Falcons' release of Mariota. They'll designate him a post-June 1 cut, save some money and then decide on which direction they'll go at the quarterback position for the 2023 season. Mariota should draw interest from teams in need of a veteran backup. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [NO - Joe Woods interviewing for Saints DC]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero The New Orleans Saints are interviewing former Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Joe Woods for their defensive coordinator vacancy, according to a source Thursday, Feb. 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Woods did not put together a strong unit with the Browns in 2022. However, he does have experience with Saints' HC Dennis Allen. Woods worked under Allen as a DB coach when he was the DC of the Raiders back in 2014. We'll see if the two sides can make something happen. The Saints are looking for a new DC after a mutual parting of ways with Kris Richard. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [LAR - Could Have Interest in FA QB Mike White?]() Source: Zack Rosenblatt - The Athletic Zack Rosenblatt, from The Athletic, believes the Los Angeles Rams could be interested in New York Jets QB [Mike White](=) who is set to be a free agent this offseason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That would make a lot of sense. New Rams OC Mike LaFleur worked well with White as the starter over former no.2 overall pick Zach Wilson. With veteran QB Matthew Stafford returning from a spinal injury that cut his 2022 season short, the Rams need to have a backup they can trust. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [IND - Shane Steichen to talk with Indy again soon](=) Source: Indianapolis Star - Nate Atkins Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen will interview with the Indianapolis Colts for a second time either Friday, Feb. 3, or Saturday, Feb. 4, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Steichen has put together two solid seasons running the Eagles' offense. The Colts are casting a wide net to find their head coach, and Steichen could be the guy to spark their stagnant offense. Oh yeah, they need to figure out their quarterback situation too. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [LAR - Hope to Build on Akers' Late Season Production]( Source: Jordan Rodrigue - The Athletic Jordan Rodrigue, from the Athletic, reports the Los Angeles Rams are hoping to build off the late-season production of RB [Cam Akers](=). [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] With new OC Mike LaFleur, the Rams should implement more wide-zone concepts with Akers being the primary beneficiary. If healthy, Akers could be quite productive in that system which makes him an RB2 with upside consideration. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [ARI - Lions DC Aaron Glenn likely to meet again with Arizona](=) Source: CBS Sports HQ - Josina Anderson Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is expected to interview with the Arizona Cardinals for a second time in the near future, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Glenn's defenses with the Lions have not been great, but he's been on the fast track to being a head coach over the last two offseasons. Reports say he's great with players and coaches love him as well. It's that type of leader the Cardinals may want to peg as their new head coach.
