[NO - Sean Payton heading to Denver]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter The Denver Broncos finalized a deal Tuesday, Jan. 31, with the New Orleans Saints to acquire former head coach Sean Payton, according to a source. The Broncos agreed to send a 2023 first-round draft pick and a 2024 second-round draft pick in exchange for Sean Payton and a 2024 third-round pick. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Broncos get their man....well, one of their men. Payton and the Broncos have been doing this dance for some time. They'll trade for the veteran coach, and it's up to him to bring this once-proud franchise back to prominence. It's good news for his buddy QB Russell Wilson and the Broncos' offense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [HOU - ILB DeMeco Ryans heading to Houston](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans will be hired by the Houston Texans as their new head coach, according to a source Tuesday, Jan. 31. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ryans, a former player for the Texans, has a connection with the franchise and knows the building. He's the type of coach who can bring a much-needed change in culture to a losing franchise. We'll see what they build on offense around Ryans, as he's known for being a great defensive mind. The Texans also need to find the right quarterback to make it all work. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [SF - QB Trey Lance confident in recovery](=) Source: The Athletic - Matt Barrows San Francisco 49ers QB [Trey Lance](=) (ankle) told reporters he is 'three to four weeks' away from being cleared for practice and anticipates being '100 percent' for organized team activities this spring. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Who knows what the future for Lance holds? The 49ers may want to add a quarterback like Tom Brady in free agency this offseason. Add in the play of Brock Purdy on their way to the NFC Championship Game, and Lance is no lock to be the team's starter for the 2023 season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NYJ - WR Diontae Spencer back with NY Jets]( Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets WR Diontae Spencer was signed to a Reserve/Future contract Tuesday, Jan. 31. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Spencer is a fast receiver, but he is limited to just a slot role. Mostly, he would be asked to return punts and kicks on special teams. [SF - San Francisco eyeing Tennessee DB Coach Chris Harris as DC]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter The San Francisco 49ers requested to interview Tennessee Titans defensive backs coach Chris Harris for their head coach vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 31. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Harris has been on the job with the Titans for about a week. He now gets the opportunity to impress the 49ers' brass for a move up in the coaching ranks. Harris has been on the fast track since he first became an assistant about 10 years ago. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [TEN - WR Robert Woods a potential cap casualty?]() Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans WR [Robert Woods](=) is unlikely to play at his current expected base salary of $13.75 million in 2023, according to TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This idea has been out there for some time. Woods will need to accept a restructured contract if he wants to stay with the team. New GM Ran Carthon is going to craft the team around the rushing attack, but he's got decisions to make when it comes to the passing game. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [SF - San Francisco requests DC interview with Steve Wilks]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo The San Francisco 49ers requested a defensive coordinator interview for Carolina Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks, according to a source Tuesday, Jan. 31. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wilks was a fine interim coach for the Panthers, but when they hired Frank Reich to be their new head coach he wanted opportunities elsewhere. He should get a chance to be a full-time head coach again, after only getting one season with the Cardinals before they hired Kliff Kingsbury (who is now fired). The 49ers would get a great coach if they get Wilks to run their fierce defense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks.
